SFxT Review and Impressions with dat Nycc flavor!

How anyone can call a game bare bones before it’s even fucking completed is beyond me.

You have Alpha Counters in this game - I wonder if their name is Cross Counter? Ha ha - so I’m not sure how safe DPs will be. Opponent does a DP, cancels it and at the same time you cancel your blockstun into an Alpha Counter.

Wow, so I guess only positive reviews and impressions are allowed here. Better add that to the op.

Thread asks for impressions.
Everyone is making statements about the game based on an unfinished product but anything negative gets "how can you say that game not finished!!"
Good shit SRK

you are right about that. i remember when i played mvc3’s tgs build and x factor was useless. then in the final game it became retarded. the only thing that i really hate that stood out the most to me was the cross assault.

At least it doesn’t give infinite meter during it like MvC1

Imagine safe EX moves over and over again @_@

That’s 100% what it is right now.

I’m hoping that the game will blossom once we really get our hands on it, but I’m not holding my breath for it.

I know people don’t want to admit it but this game is a fucking novelty. Ten years from now we’ll remark about how many great moments SF4 brought us or crazy UMvC3 was, but this game will be put to the sidelines to join the likes of Capcom Fighting Jam, the cancelled All Stars, and all that. Am I saying this game is bad by putting it with CFJ? No, I enjoyed CFJ, but this is a giant marketing ploy to me that happens to be kinda sorta enjoyable to play. I get much more actual soul (for the lack of a better term) from games like AE or MvC3, but this feels like it should end up in the bargain bin a month after release

Ah well. I’ll probably still buy it anyways. Here’s hoping for Karin (yeah right)~

So you’re saying this dude both delusional for calling it the “best Street Fighter ever” and is wasting his time by promoting the game on his own whenever he’s at tournaments?

And that video aside, what is it exactly that makes you say so when the reaction to the game at events from the past few months has been mostly positive?

Are veteran SF players simply not seeing the problems with it because they have no experience with OMK or similar doujins? Or are they simply blinded by stuff they don’t like about IV?

Because honestly, unless some miracle happens, I wont have until launch to play the game and find out for myself. That, and when you see an opinion that seems to go against what most folks have been saying so far, then it does stick out like a sore thumb.

seriously?
no, i mean, seriously?
how can people can make assumptions like this is beyond me.

What i think they need to do with cross assault in this game is to make every attack from each character worth only half the amount of damage they would do alone so it will be harder to get combos that do 60-70% of damage.

So how would this alpha counter actually work? How do you use alpha counters on your normals?

I don’t really get why this being like Umineko somehow consigns this to the bargin bin as well as being remembered with the likes of Capcom All Stars (c’mon man, fuck outta here with that). The fact that this has SF and Tekken characters and is made by Capcom means way more hardcore fighting game players will actually give the game a chance instead of dismissing it as animu rubbish. This game will actually have a large casual fanbase, I’m sure Capcom will at minimum ship 2 million copies… The amount of people playing this will dwarf Ougon and that alone will keep people playing it and depth will be discovered etc… this will not have a small community that dies out nearly straight away… think of Ougon as a unknown hiphop producer that no one pays attention to and he releases a track no one gives a fuck about. Than SFxT is Timbaland and he copies the beat 99% the same and it’s a worldwide smash.

Yeah, I already forwarded a similar suggestion to Sven. That said, I’d like to see more gameplay without regenerating meter.

Honestly, I’d just like to know why some players (known ones at that) are totally hype for the game, and others have the complete opposite.

Different fighting game backgrounds.

Oh hay I have an opinion guys.

Seriously, no I mean seriously.

Dev, I think it’s hilarious that you still can’t understand that I’m not head over heels in love with the game and you constantly have to bring up other people calling it the second coming of Jesus or whatever. That’s not a rip on you either, I can see you really think I’m trying to start shit here, but I’m not. You can lambast Sleepy for that. Anyways, no, I don’t think anyone is delusional. I’ve never brought ANYONE into this. I’ve never stopped anyone else from thinking what they want to with this game and I am not going out and telling anyone they shouldn’t try this game, enjoy it, or buy it. I have no vendetta for this game in any way, shape, or form. That guy can go and advertise it all he wants, all the more power to him.

This is how I feel about the game, plain and simple. It doesn’t have to make any sense to any of you.

Perhaps. How many veteran SF players even bother to give doujin games the time of day? None. SF and MvC just works for them, and that’s fine. Hell, the OMK comparison didn’t even click for me until I sat down and played the game. OMK’s flaw is that it has a cast with a variety of different playstyles to them, so you can form whatever team you want, but when you sit down to play it all ends up being abc tag cancel abc tag cancel abc tag cancel activate super blah blah blah. Sure you could try and zone people with a character or two, but it ends up feeling like you’re delaying the inevitable rather then a choice.

With SFxT I’m just trying to see what we’re going to get out of NOT doing LMHH tag LMHH tag NOTHING. Maybe you can switch out to have a counter character ready against your opponent, but then what is said counter character going to do? Play normal SF and not tag? Combo into a tag cancel into a tag cancel into LMHH tag LMHH tag? It depends on how we open this game up and find out how to really do damage. If we can stray away from LMHH then I can see this game being much more fun and falling into the same pitfall that OMK did. Maybe.

I think the game is more reminiscent of SFEX3 than Ougun, IMO. Which is fine, so SFEX3 x Tekken Tag + MvC1’s Cross Fever mode should sound about right.

Alpha Counters are usually triggered by something like QCB + P or K when blocking. You would know if it’s successful if your character does a pose, and do an attack animation which counters the opponent. What seems to be the case in SFxT, your character will just flash yellow like an EX move and he/she can do a certain attack that’s available for him. Wether that Sagat’s QCB + P’s AC might be his fierce or you could use any normal or special as an AC has not been explored yet.

You are completely missing my point.

Obviously this game is going to ship 2 million copies and have a large casual fanbase. Who gives a shit?

CFJ was nothing special. CFAS just stuck a bunch of Capcom characters into a 3D environment. This game feels like a result of literal spoken joke that came about from Ono and Harada shooting the shit until one of them (or both of them) decided to take it seriously. I was originally hype for this because to me it represented a new entry in the genre. You have Street Fighter, that plays like SF. You have the VS series, and that plays like craziness. They were unique, they had continuations, hell they’re proof that after 10 years both games can get a sequel and be worth getting into again.

I look at SFxT and I’m just asking myself what exactly it’s trying to accomplish here. Do they want to make more games out of this down the road? Are they trying to establish a new entry (I guess you could call it the CROSS entry)? I’m not feeling that sense of purpose or motivation and that’s fine, it’s not a problem. It’s just something I’m not keen on. Maybe it’s a fun little side project for Ono / Harada. Good for them. I hope both entries do well.

Catch my drift (probably not, I’m likely rambling at this point)?

That’s what I’m afraid of. I’m afraid every character is going to devolve into LMHH LMH special for 0 bars, LMH special tag LMHH LMH special for 1 bar, etc. because there’ll be no reason NOT to go for it.

Buffer long range pokes into a special that’s easy to combo after from a tag cancel LMHH LMH special (instead of second H maybe tag again somewhere if you have 2 bars). With whiffs building meter it’s going to be st/cr strong whiff until 1 bar and start fishing.

Where the hell was the rest of yall when this was being discussed.

That actually just goes to show how fucking shallow the “community” is. Don’t get me wrong despite what I’ve said the game looks fun, just like it’s going to lack a large amount of depth, and just because a ton of people are going to be playing this does not mean we’re automatically going to find depth later on down the line. Their is still a decent number of people playing Ougon and trying to find more stuff to add depth to it to no avail.

So what do you suggest should be done? Probably just not be able to use a launcher during a basic LMH combo?

Considering how there’s still more time till release, maybe surveying these concerns to Capcom may alleviate these fears. Then again, not a lot of people spent that much of a long time with the game, so who knows how it’ll fare.
