SFV Lounge: Season 4 is almost upon us, hide your mains

Stay crouched, input the dp the normal direction but only once they’ve passed over your head then press the button.

You should be pressing the button about the same time you’d get hit.

It’s harder in this game though I’ll admit

Maybe I’ve just forgot but is Capcom usually this quiet before a new season? I feel like we’ve gotten at least a little hint or something this close to the start of a new season

I spent hours practicing this in SFV specifically…then in matches…I’ll just hit stLP because I’m a idiot

Wait, so the motion and press the button after they pass over or the motion nomal but press the button after they pass over? I mean do you wait to do the motion plus the button or just the button you’re supposed to press late?

Crosscut dp:

(Opponent in air)

Forward>down (opponent crosses over you) down forward + P

The motion feels like forward,down,downBACK +p

The downback turns into a downforward and gives you the full dp motion.

The later the better for both, but you do have some space due to the input system.

You can also just wiggle the bottom diaganols, it’ll still give you a DP, that way you’ll have no standing frames.

Honestly though I’m also a big fan of jump back jab or mp. It’ll keep them in front of you and open up a space, particularly if you want to keep corner pressure.

I’ll jump out the corner and eat a DP deliberately even if I know the opponent can do it. Taking that damage to escape is sometimes worth it.

Yeah but a crosscut dp is soul crushing to your opponent, a friend of mine is extremely good at it And it makes him appear as an impenetrable fortress

jabs were dumb because they had too much hit stun and almost no pushback. this is what allowed all the damn links in SF4 to go from a light to medium to heavy/special cancel. you couldn’t cancel from a chain into special but you could easily chain lights, then link into another light or medium because there was hardly any pushback. this made jabs very strong as a way to get offense started (it was also the only safe way).

remember though, SF4 is the oppposite of V. where V is overly aggressive, 4 was overly defensive. without the jab nonsense, 4 would be a game of timeouts to call the winner because jabs were the safest route to damage without getting mashed dp into FADC>Ultra.

there were other ways to fix this overly defensive issue with SF4 but the developers chose the safe jab link one. i don’t think it had anything to do with the lack of a priority system.

a priority system with normal attacks mostly stops trades from occurring in the neutral footsie range. you don’t even need a priority system if you have good hit/hurtbox design.

i should also mention that because of jab chaining, you could more easily OS punish inv backdashes. invincible backdashes is one of the dumbest designs i have seen in a street fighter game and is the sole reason why SF4 has such a reliance on annoying option selects.

There can be arguments made for both mid range games, but you cant deny that the design of the SF4 normal moves just flat out destroys SF5.

Imagine dealing with Rashids cr.fierce with SF4 Ryus cr.mk.
