I think that if they ever do Dan, in SFV or in future titles, they should keep the flavour of Dan being bad at fighting and tripping on his feet while making his toolset still competitively viable, at least in theory. Just like Birdie is a fat slob and doesn’t look or act like a credible fighter most of the times, but he’s still strong gameplay-wise.
Joke characters that are made purposefully weak in competitive play don’t really fit in modern fighting games with pro tours and esports in my opinion.
I agree in the sense that you can’t really burn a DLC slot on an honest to god intentional joke character (as opposed to the DLC characters that ended up being unintentionally hilarious) in the year of our lord 20XX. If Dan shows up I would absolutely expect him to be a goofy fuckhead, but one of those goofy fuckheads that fails upwards. Sort of like Faust but with a more awkward legacy.
With all the talk of Elenas and Dans let us not forget the however faint prospect of a motherfuckin’ gorilla rolling up into the SF tournament. (I actually think that may be the fakest part of the list but it is also what I want to be true the most so I believe past all logic).
I’ve seen the people talking and it seems most would rather have Dan be good than shit. Dan could still technically be a joke and still be good. Shingo is a joke character of Kyo but he was actually good in his appearances.
I think mid tier Dan could work.
Jin I reached my thanksgiving goal of 21K. Now I’m big boy diamond guy!
Nah, menat’s strength wasnt discovered at the time. Infiltration showed off her pro level potential in his comeback in 2017 and won a tournament and people then started maining the char.
Im just seeing this. Dont know if you are talking to me, ( hope not) but i never said akuma neutral was bad. Main thing i was saying is that his normals arent stellar compared to the best in game. His conversion is a cut above most, but he usually has to get dicked on to get to the spacings those conversions happen from. And having to hard outplay your opponent for your strengths to become apparent can be said for literally anyone.
I mean in SFIV he wasn’t that bad. Bad, but not that bad. That was definitely the first game he was almost worth playing in. Characters like Sakura, Alex and Vega are about the strength that he probably was in IV. It’s just that’s obviously not good enough vs top characters and still is nearly as bad as he usually is in other games.
The fact that he would be a paid/DLC character means that they would kinda have to make him not any worse than Ryu or Gief because the shit storm over a Dan that needs to be purchased that makes Sakura look good would be epic.
Oh and good shit on 21K. That means you’re legit Super Diamond now unless you have like the worst night ever and go back down (which would suck but the wall of text would be funny to look at).
I made 200.000FM since Sagat’s release (because that’s around the time I bought Falke).
Considering I pretty much stopped playing after my Falke reached Level 47, that means I got 47.000FM from leveling her and 153.000FM for the associated wins, weekly missions and occasional Golden Soldiers. It’s not a ton, but I now have 300.000 in total again and that’s enough to buy whoever interests me from S4.
I’m definetely down for a Dan that looks goofy but it’s ironically good (like losing his balance during one of his moves only to accidentaly hit you harder or evade an incoming attack), shit would be hilarious and definetely more fun than burning a slot over a stupid joke
And besides, there are already a lot of bad characters in the game
I think Dan could be an interesting character. Dunno about competitively, but seeing the extra animations and character they gave to Abagail for example, makes me think they could do some good stuff with him from a character personality perspective
