SFV Lounge: No News after the grass, 10K POWERRRRRRR

Street fighter is afraid to let any of its characters age or change in any ways.

Almost the whole MK cast is now 40+.

Aging out characters means making new ones to replace old ones because story cucks need story.

Then reboot it. That’s the way these things usually go.

Alternatively, don’t acknowledge time passing. That’s the problem, SF wants to pretend time is passing… and then not have anyone get older.

We got a little age ups in SFV at least…Sakura still lookin’ gud…wouldn’t expect more than that in SFIII:VI

That’s always been SF’s shtick. That means we’ll fighting for the future forever.

What you “might” be experiencing is you as the attacker, teching your opponents throw. Like if you throw kinda slowly and your opponent techs fast, then you will actually be teching THEIR throw, but it will look like a “different” tech for a quick tech.

Teching in sf5, atleast as of the beta, happens on the frame of the tech. It doesn’t wait for the entire animation to come out, that’s why you can feel a late tech versus a fast tech, whereas in sf4 it was always shown as a late tech because all techs were done on the last frame of “techability”

Atleast for the beta, that of course may have changed but here’s a thread:

How aging works in most games.

Dudes get a beard.
Girls still look like they are 25 tops.

Not really, SF actually like to have and point out time gaps, which is why the forever young cast stands out. You have to parts of the narrative doing different things.

Before anyone points it out, no, this is not a big deal in any way.

But… but dictator has grey hair now! Look! Ryu has a beard! Only olds have grey hair and beards!

You got me. I can’t argue with that.

Capcom always thinks of everything.

Good thing 40 year old 3S Chun is the best she’s ever looked.

Oh shit Video Power son! Trife this is pure gold fam.

I agree with you but 3S Chun was 31

Not true, her age is “???”

Nah take Ryu’s age and subtract 4 years and more or less have Chun Li’s age. It is her weight that is ???

The best ‘ageing’ up I’ve seen so far in a fighting game is probably SFV Dhalsim. Of course it’s hard to say if he always was old and just never showed it because of the lack of hair, but for this argument’s sake I’d just like to think he wasn’t. In fact the redesign is so good that it feels really weird to see him without the beard in older games now IMO.

In street fighter, sure.

But compare that with the likes of Garou or MK and it’s not even that good.

Look at Johnny Cage. That’s a character that has grown up physically and mentally. Watching him deal with himself in mK11 is one of the best parts of the story mode.
