Don"t think there’ll be a new character. I mean they haven’t changed the twitter icon yet, Ono is not going to be there, and I personally don’t think Evo Japan is big enough to warrant a reveal. Would love to be wrong though.
Unrelated but I completely forgot a character’s birthday. Happy belated birthday, FANG
I’m on season 4. Been giving hot takes on a lot of the show for the past week in Shaft Agent’s discord. This season with the focus on the middle school kids and the things going on with the social science research is hilarious.
Dime writing a long ass post. Probably gonna tell us how he was dealing on top of rapping, on top of being the best skullgirls player ever or some bullshit.
Yeah well the thing is most of her “problems” haven’t been addressed so it does t matter if theybuff her here or there without addressing the actual issues:
She’s weak as fuck to fireballs. I don’t know if this is intentional or not or if capcom is just stupid, but they think her v skill and cr.mp are anti fireball, but these are probably so,e of the worst anti fireball moves ever.
Her “pressure” is kinda non existent. St.mp is her best pressure button and it has too much pushback and can’t be done from forward or back so you lose time/distance on stagger pressure to return the stick to neutral… and when coupled with its huge pushback, means that the “pressure” is hard to use.
Even with the st.mp pressure, converting it consistently without resources is a huge pain because of the need to buffer charge everytime you press st.mp. This makes it so that multiple stagger strings aren’t especially viable, into cr.mk xx sbk. Usually you will lose a big amount of time if buffering charge on block, this isnt normally terrible, but when a characters offense is already not great… it’s terrible.
BHP SHOULD be her bison st.hk… problem is that once again, the pushback is HUGE and she has no frame trap threat on block except for when bhp is done point blank. So that means bhp done from anywhere else lacks power since you can’t make use of its block advantage.
Her fireball is nowhere near good enough to warrant its current properties of more recovery, less range, big charge time.
No actual tick throw.
Imho there are a ton of ways to buff her to make her strong without going overboard. Probably some of the most sensible are to reduce her charge times across the board.
Sbk charge time has literally no point outside of combos, it’s terrible in neutral, so a very small charge time makes perfect sense without breaking her. All that is needed is to keep the longer charge time on ex sbk, which is easy since it’s charge time is already longer than normal sbk anyways.
Make hk legs -2 and move forward more. Gives her a safeish cancel but not for free because of the -2. No reason for her legs moves to be so bad if they themselves don’t lead to combo or move forward substantially or have invincibility or knockdown and LK is the only one that has one of those attributes.
Her kikoken is weak enough to reduce the charge time substantially. At least 10 frames charge time reduction. Imho I would just make it no charge and make it act like a normal fireball on block and hit and call it a day… as it is, the only really good thing about it is that it performs better on block than most other fireballs in the game and has pretty good recovery.
She’s a character that is kinda like ed at this point. Pretty all around, has a projectile/ex reversal and good ground pokes. But most of her “all around” stuff is slow or lacks range or damage. And unfortunately, being all around has never been what fighting games are about. The top tier is almost always overpowered stuff that is so strong the characters weaknesses don’t make up for the strengths. Chun has some BIG strengths:
Uber fast walk speed
Great pokes
Can combo from jab on non CH
3 frame cr.lk
Non metered FB beater
Ex reversal
Projectile
Very high priority normal AA’s
But then she has
Slow ass jump
Short ranged dash
Slow no range fireball beater
No conversion range on her pokes outside CH and v pop
Low offensive damage (but her punish damage has gotten MUCH better in s4)
Long ass charge on projectile
Slow ass ranged CC
Too much pushback on offensive moves
Oh man I got to go to my first legit Tournament scene here! Now I see why yall like it so much! Got to see some really good games with Tekken 7, UMVC3, and Soul Calibur 6 (I am SO picking up Zasalamel!!!), and best I got to see 2 Laura’s there in the SF5 section. I was excited to see what some Laura pros. can do.
LORD GOD SHE CANT DO ANYTHING!!! LMAO
I actually felt so much better watching that since I knew how bad she already was and even seeing people who main her just outright get bodied because…well they have no options to play and cant really get a chance to do anything. I dont think Ive ever seen a character that piss poor designed against 90% of the cast, SHE CANT DO ANYTHING TO THE CAST THAT THE CAST CAN DO TO HER!! Hell I saw Birdie’s backdashing out of her light elbow and 2 and 3 frame blockstrings even though it connected with the model, just because she was 2 cm away instead of 1 it whiffed and he got punished for it! And the punching and kicking through the fireball was even sadder.
Now sidenote, that ST.MP nerf was the most BS thing Capcom could do, a Ryu jumped over her and even though her elbow was in his model is showed Laura taking the hit from way behind the air behind her, yet he was late timing his AA Jab and cr.mp against her extremely late and it smacking her out of the sky if he messed up a special or input even when she was already deep in his model!
I asked both of them why they still bothered with her at this point since you basically dont get to play anymore ( I mean unless the opponent does something incredibly stupid) and get punished for too many things. One of them just shrugged and walked off pretty upset, the other said he didnt care for anyone else so he just suffers through it and didnt want to run to Akuma/Guile to make life easy. I did get a laugh out of people when I told him he was my hero for sticking with her. lmao #LAURAISDEAD
I definitely want to bring my Kolin out there now, I’m so inspired!!
Dime brought up a good point about her HK legs there is no reason for it to be -10 lol. It does low damage for a heavy ender, doesn’t KD, doesn’t extend combos like the other two versions, and doesn’t move her forward enough for real pressure. Hell listing it out like that it may very well be the worst (heavy) combo ender in the game.
It basically only exists to end combos when you can’t charge for SBK or have no meter for EX Legs. The latter sort if leads into another issue with her being fairly meter hungry between all the EX Leg usage (neutral conversions, juggles and some punishes) and EX.Kikoken being one of her few good offensive tools. And that’s on top of burning meter for her reversal.
Laura needs some major nerfs so that she can get some major buffs.
Basically she needs to be reworked to have less reward/kill you in one series and then balance that with a better overall neutral. As it is she’s just a gief style grappler at this point without the anti neutral face slam on buttons tools he has.
Late, but The Wire is fucking great. Absolutely worth a watch if you haven’t before. So many great characters.
It also leads to a fun game to play (“hey I know that guy”) because so many of those people went on to do other things after that are Wire adjacent. At least 2 of them ended up on Bosch (another quite good show), though one is playing roughly the same character Marlo got a big change over.
Also yeah it’s a notch more interesting when you live/work around Baltimore.
