Most telling is how high “newcomer” is on that poll. Faith in Capcom’s SF character designs is at an all time high I think. We haven’t had new characters this good since the Alpha era (yes SF3’s character designs were not good for their time).

I think Oro is definitely number 1. Dude deserves some respect after all this time.

I’d also like to see (Drunken Fist) Lee from SF1 reimagined to be a very high technical and rewarding character. Put those kids Yun and Yang to shame forever.

Yeah, think that was a read on a backdash more than anything else. I was thinking about all that and remembered that a lot of Dan’s gameplan at the end was about doing silly shit after a blocked tatsu (or w/e the hell his is called). Lk dan kick + backdash, lk dan kick throw, LK dan kick + DP.

Dankukyaku into do FADC was criminal, Dan players loved it because that special was -2 oB. If he had meter you’re right into his blender, only another do FADC or Teleport can save you. That shit works mostly vs characters forced to get in without a free out of jail card like Makoto was.

Dang regular lunge got blocked better FADC. Now I’ll go for EX lunge and then grapple you.

This is the same guy that DPs and presses c.MK on wake up vs Gief, so that works.

Kazu trained Luffy very hard, Yun EX lunge was amazing in SF4. Luffy defense was extremely on point at the time with Rose and his conversions when he had chance were crazy, I’ve played him sometimes years ago. Kazu goal was making Luffy guessing and that don’t surprise me, he played Yun in a crazy way. Yun do wasn’t FADC-able, but that didn’t stop him from going YOLO with it all the time. Not surprised with the fact this kind of habit doesn’t work for him in SFV, punishes here are all hard.

Odds are good that he could’ve late teched out of that situation. I wanna say you could negative edge tech throws in 4. If I’m remembering that right, then the best case scenario woudlve been to late tech with a negative edge defensively since chip damage from DP wasnt killing.

I noticed when I watched him fight Daigo he didn’t mess with the minus shenanigans. I guess meterless DP is part of what makes him less willing to go for it.

Akuma is indeed a fuck head. You know when you’re dealing with one of the better characters in the game when the advice takes the form of "try x and y, but not too much or you’ll get killed, good ruck! "

That’s why I like using Falke against Akuma because you can make the match a lot more textbook.

1. Is he chucking fireballs. Shot under regular fireballs and neutral jump/walk red fireballs. If you get him into a pattern of fireballs then be ready to jump over and j.HP him into fat combo where his health disappears.

2. Did he go up in the air at all? PP, EX PP or neutral jump MP.

3. Is he on the ground? Throw s.HP at him to blow up his crouching normals and try to get him to whiff a s.HP to whiff punish with s.MK or goad him into jumping the s.HP so you can anti air or block and force him to worry about EX PP. Then occasionally pepper in jumps baited with air fireballs or dives so he can throw bad AA’s and get punished. Which sets up jump ins for you later on.

4. Once you condition him to staying on the ground throw f+HP’s and fish for CC’s and build white chip.

5. If he activates trigger just EX PP anything he goes in the air with and stuff dash attempts with s.LK or s.MK

That’s pretty much it as far as what you need to do vs him. Some really crazy Akumas can make it a little more than that, but generally those things are enough to beat most of Akuma’s standard gameplan. The fact that her air game allows her to actually jump at Akuma and actually punish Akuma for attempting to AA really throws him off. I can imagine it’s also one of the few matchups where Akuma has to think pretty hard in comparison to deal with Falke.
