The first day I saw SF2 in the arcade near home it was love at first sight. I was only 9 and at the time I was a car and football/soccer player only. My mom gave me money just to 2 or 3 tries and I’ve spend all of them for a sorry ass car game. Then I’ve heard a crowd all around 2 guys playing around a cabinet and when I saw that dude throwing fireballs from his hand my videogames life changed forever. SF2, nothing came close.
I do like me some SF2, but hell no, I ain’t playing the OG SNES SF2 port ever again.
That shit was SLOW! Give me arcade SF2 or at least Turbo Hyper Fighting on the SNES.
This game is so simple, yet so amazing to watch at high level. This is one of those ST vids I always come back to whenever I want to kick it old school.
So sagat is starting to click. I was to Afraid to DP. I normally use normals well I tell u what good ole fashion dps does wonders for me it’s quite a nostalgic feeling. ALL HAIL THE KING. He ain’t playing sfv but that’s fine I had to go back to basics

More talking about Sagat and clashing opinions with people who think he’s weak.
Sagat doesn’t possess a strong dash for offensive play, he doesn’t have a strong unreactable EX move to force a strong scenario, his ability to maintain momentum is also weaker than most.
BUT. Just because he doesn’t adhere to the meta of some of the top tier doesn’t mean Sagat can’t enforce his pace on you. You can stop majority of the current meta tools(fast, unreactable options that force quick guesses for shifts in momentum) by using Sagats kit. Lemme just quickly talk about some really important normals.
St.lk covers dashes, covers a lot of midrange pokes, low total frame count so it’s a buffer tool that let’s you AA jumps easily after recovering. However, it loses to big beefy CC normals in midrange and loses to plasma.
St.mk shuts down like every single low poke in the game. -2 oB for a turn steal with St.lk when spaced. Covers dashes really well, long range and hard to contest.
St.hk is a fat AA, is a sick whiff punisher and is good for shimmying too.
Like legit if Sagat wants you to play at his pace he can completely do that so even though there’s an established meta, Sagat doesn’t have to abide by it at all. I was in a lounge earlier vs. a crazy Chun who wanted to play a fast paced game and I lost the first set, but the second set I remembered my gameplan and slowed the pace down to what Sagat needs to work, and I ended up winning pretty convincingly.
Without his St.lk I think he’d be trash though that normal saved his life.
Also he has some shit match-ups where he has to play to the opponents spacing and pace due to their anti-fireball tools/mobility. This is where he starts to get a little sketchy and you need to make some serious outplays.
Nash/Juri/Balrog are a couple examples of who feel terrible to fight vs.
The Sagat dream is over for me. I love playing traditional fireball zoning and all but I can’t deal with his walk speed. It’s too bad because I like a lot of things about him, especially the kara stuff. It feels so good to land that stuff.
I really hope Bonchan sticks with Sagat though. It would be hype to see him landing that stuff in real matches. At the same time, Ryu could really use that low tiger frame data.
all 9 of em are interesting, you really should give em a try.
ed - out of curiosity…what is it that you like so much about dbfz?
not wanna shit on it or something just curios about why you prefer it over other titles.
Sagat is just honestly strong, that’s it. The ‘Honest characters group’ is growing, it seems like a subliminal message from Capcom about what’s going to happen in S4.
