From what I hear the customization is aimed towards casuals… there will be a set of 3 to choose from which im assuming will be for competitive play.
It’s such a weird thing to be surprised about though. Doesn’t even have anything to do with math but more with common sense. If a feature resets to a neutral scenario it’s obvious that neither character will start with an advantage, otherwise it wouldn’t be neutral.
Yeah i think 11 is supposed to have gear too, but I don’t think they are marketing it as much since it isn’t a new idea. Like here is an example
But honestly I hated the implementation of gear in Injustice 2. It was basically nothing but single player grinding for loot boxes you hoped were blessed by the RNG gods, only for it to be full of shit for characters you don’t play. And to make matters worse there was no way to unlock specific pieces you want.
Also I think Scarlet looks fine in MK11. Old design was random Mortal Kombat ninja girl with that one mask everyone’s wearing so this is definitely more unique.
The only stupid thing about it however, is that they consciously want to get away from those sex doll female designs while simultaneously upping the gore with every game. It’s like telling someone that you want to be taken seriously while riding a seesaw in a My Little Pony cosplay suit. Either go all the way or embrace your over-the-top heritage, but don’t do some half-arsed pandering.
I would actually be more interested in seeing the opposite with NRS handling SF characters. Capcom is good at conveying personality through stances and attacks, but I feel like they struggle portraying real brutality. I’m not talking blood and guts necessarily, but more like heavy impacts, the implied breaking of bones through (unnatural) motion, etc.
The reason I’m curious is that while most of the characters don’t seem like killers, you can infer through dialog who the murderers on the roster would be. Like for some imaginary cross over I feel like the SF killers would be:
Akuma/Oni/Kage (raging demon)
M. Bison
Juri (definitely a bone breaker)
Balrog
Vega (slasher/stabber)
Nash (CA is basically a PG-13 fatality)
Those are the obvious ones off the top, though I think characters like Ryu or Gief could easily kill on accident. If we want to go full meme tier I think it would be funny to see Necalli devour people.
Will never happen but if NRS will add a SF guest character to MK it’s gonna be one of the following.
Guys : Akuma,Oni,Evil Ryu
Girls : Juri
From my understanding, the gear in MK11 is cosmetic. The customization comes the custom variation system. Which is great. I hated that I’d have to wear some ugly bullshit in Injustice because it had better stats.
On point with Juri.
One of her win quotes :
“Bones are better than muscles. They sound better when they snap”
The RD looks fine though. Every variation looks brutal no matter the game with SFV’s being the most visceral. NRS wouldn’t do anything outside of adding more blood and gore which doesn’t really mean anything to me.
So basically what I’m saying is fuck NRS!
I think SF games do a great job selling impacts.
I think NRS games do to, but not the same.
Skarlet looks a lot better in other outfits in MKXI. Both of those designs in the pictures are shit.
SF impacts remind me of an anime
MK impacts remind me of some UFC shit
The lack of hit-stop makes strikes in NRS games seem un-impactful, aside from cinematics anyway.
I would play MK if they added better hitsparks I’m lying but it helps
Any idea whats with the wall of text in the character select screen in the previous videos with sonicfox playing on it?
NRS has no half-measures when it comes to female character design, they’re either all naked strippers with humongous tiddies a la MK9 or they’re all almost completely stripped of sex appeal a la MKX. Looks like they’re going to keep the MKX look this time.
Skarlet looks interesting though, I like the blood powered waifu thing, I just have a hard time getting past her chunky cheeks after years of anime faces.
I guess I’m gonna shill for a sec… but today I’ve posted my first ever digital art:
Getting into digital has been something I’ve wanted for years and only now I’ve started doing it, it feels so fulfilling to finally start doing this
I kinda get a bit bothered by their body types a bit, they are all the same super model-ish types (thin, no hips or muscle).
Mileena and Jade will always be best babes regardless tho
Final Round is the first real CPT event and Evo Japan is also in February so pretty much yeah.
To me the hit stop is the main thing that makes it look bad. It’s the game yelling HE GOT HIT instead of just making it smooth to begin with.
SFV looks like a cartoon (no shade) trying to sell me the fact that someone got hit with special effects instead of proper application of force. Like right now I’m in the lab with Zangief and the problem is easy to see.
For example you hit Ryu with his s.hk and there is a noticable delay between the hit and when Ryu reels back from the hit. On block it looks even more dumb because Ryu doesn’t react to blocking a boot the size of his upper body in any way except for a modest slide back. All you get is that and the blue invisible wall effect. Just because he blocked it doesn’t mean that the kinetic energy from a foot that large going that fast disappears.
Another example of their weird post-hit application of force is that his running beat grab, where Ryu bounces high off the ground like a full second after they zoom in on the landing.
A hilarious example is Ryu’s Solar Plexus, where the person getting hit inexplicably recoils two times from the same hit lol. Never mind the fact that SP is a pretty slow strike.
This is a random one i just came across, but for some reason Ryu reels in the wrong 3D direction when hit with his s.mp. He reels back, but also lurches towards the screen like he was punched in the back instead of the chest lol. He also reels way faster than the speed of the punch he was hit with.
Now if you want to say it’s like that for gameplay reasons then sure its easy to pass off. But to say it looks better just seems false to me. Like going into training mode and look at this stuff, then watch the MK11 gameplay trailer bits with dusty ass Sonya where she actually throws her weight around.
I don’t an issue with any of that. I think everything in SF has impact and looks visually distinct. NRS is the only fighting game devs where I legit think they skipped a how to animate class about 100 or so times.
Also one of the other things I hate about MK is that none of the characters feel like they’re fighting with their own style. They might have a special or two that stand out (get over here) but punches and kicks look the same. And they do a bunch of goofy martial arts that don’t even seem like what they would do. Like Sonya is a military chick and yet she’s doing crouching tiger hidden dragon shit on top of other nonsensical bullshit that looks so out of character. How people like this shit is beyond me.
