If your st.hk didn’t cc you wouldn’t get the respect of not having fireballs throwin your face. I fought highland all the time, the only thing that makes him stop is jumps or some threat of a KD/invulnerable to FB style move.
1 or 2 kicks in the face won’t make up for all the plasma that your going to throw buttons into. The damage of the CC and it’s resultant KD is the threat.
Same with low attacks that don’t knockdown and don’t do damage… they don’t dissuade people from walking backwards because all they are trying to do is escape a situation and peop,e are totally willing to pay health here or there to escape bad situations. Same for fireballers eating horizontal normals here or there, it’s not a dissuasion.
Gief uses st.mk, it hops a lot of low hitbox pokes like Chun cr.mk, it’s a great button. St.mp overshadows it in most MUs due to the hitbox buff.
I mean my st.hk literally dictates the midrange in that MU, he’d die if he didn’t stop walking into it trying to fireball? I win the trade. It not CCing wouldn’t stop how imposing it is to his effective options whenever I walk into it’s range.
Case in point - St.hk from IV did the exact same thing in a bunch of MUs.
They could just buff damage on stmk style pokes on a per character basis. Same with anti airs and such. Sfv could stand to color outside the lines a bit
Seriously, that characters entire concept is to be better than the other characters. No one should ever act surprised when he obsoletes a 3rd of the cast.
All of Akuma’s tools were originally designed (SF2), to be better than everyone else. So every iteration of him is Capcom trying to balance a character with “better than everyone else” as a starting point. Giving him low health typically doesn’t do it when he really doesn’t have any weaknesses to exploit.
Yun on the other hand has only been top tier twice (and he has been in a few other games), and for different reasons in both games. His entire concept isn’t something that is an inherent problem. However, SF4AE balancing decisions became a meme, and now we will never have Yun again.
And it also leaves Gief +2 in front of the opponent, forcing him to move or take lp/ex SPD even from max distance.
People would surely “love” if this button did 100 damage as well. Get hit, fail to move, 30% of your life gone and you are in the blender.
I swear G’s qcf is the ultimate scrub crutch, almost impossible to punish and literally invisible until it’s too late to AA him, forget about keeping this character away
yeah, doesn’t matter that gold ranked are filled with pepole that just want to bypass neutral in any possible method (not that i would win if they did play the neutral game lol) and the game seems very happy to let them do it.
But it’s at least 75% my fault (a part of it trying to stick with Juri I guess out of some stupid low tier god pride).
Not that I wouldn’t like a cut to all the bullshit in the game.
It’s kinda strange because It felt like I was playing more solidly later and managed to get at ultra gold
Well to be fair, Akuma was a secret character and was banned from all competitive play in Super Turbo. While he has been good in plenty of games, I’m not sure the development team are sitting there without considering the rest of the balance.
Maybe it’s unfair to throw Yang in there but all I’m saying is that the twins dive kick bs on oki has been a constant in sf and it would get WAY worse in sfv given how they like to balance things in that game.
Side note: what’s wrong with making a character good as a starting point for design?
