Boxing really good but it’s problematic against someone that knows how to kick.
I could see Bea doing this.
The core problem with aikido specifically, is that, you aren’t gonna catch someone’s punch and then have any real control over them. Even if they are swinging wildly. And most of their fancy “traps” don’t really work on someone who is resisting you.
That said, aikido isn’t actually “supposed” to work, it’s not a functional martial art. So that’s not really an insult.
Well I wasted a year of my life then XP
Bea is an Amazon. You don’t want none of that Akhos.
You might end up like her broken sticks.
Yeah, well, you’re still short >:c
Didn’t say that.
Said its not really intended for combat. A huge chunk of martial arts aren’t actually functional, doesn’t make them useless, they just aren’t for fighting.
In terms of fighting its pretty well just MMA. There are others too, but by its very nature MMA is going to be the most functional as it just borrows the most effective bits from everything else.
Lord William can do real life Kolin reversals??
Yup that’s some nice… Ahem
I WILL NOT BE DISTRACTED!!!
Apparently not
Kolin is Systema…
Good luck with that.
I’m in the gym and imagining Lord William going PREDICTABOO!!! and laughing to myself. I better stop before people think I’m nuts.
Aikido has some nice self-defense moves in the if-he-grabs-here-you-do-this category.
Unfortunately, most of the curriculum consists of unrealistic techniques that would have you catching wrists and fists that come at you with full speed such as Irimi-nage. Many of Aikido’s techniques rely on your opponent developing an acute full-body paralysis and his limbs turning to jelly after his initial attack, at which point you can effortlessly flip him over.
Looks great in movies, doesn’t work in real life.
Edit: I just saw you already pointed that out:
Hey guys, I need some help…
My thought process during a match is fucked. I have no sense of footsies and every decision I make seems to be the wrong one, whether it’s on offence, on defence, or the neutral.
I’ve been trying to get decent in SFV for a long time now and while I drop things and what-not, I just can’t seem to get a grasp of what I should even be doing. Yes, I know I’ve taken breaks and changed characters many times over, but at the end of the day, I just have no idea what I’m doing and don’t know how to fix it. I just lost three sets in a row and I have no clue what I could have done to win any of them. And that’s very frustrating.
I’m wondering if I should just stick I think out in V or if there’s another game, with a somewhat active player base, that would do a better job of teaching me the basics? I’m thinking something fairly basic (less mechanics) where it’s easy to see why you lost.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Share your CFN and have someone here analyze your replays.
If nothing helps, maybe SFV just isn’t for you. Doesn’t mean you can’t continue to play it, though. I love Command and Conquer, but after 15+ years of playing it and being coached by pro players, I’m still absolute garbage at it. Still playing it, though.
I think boxing is probably what would help you out in a real fight more than any other art. Yea a lot of fights end up in the ground but they start standing and in many cases a well placed punched is all it takes. Besides on the ground anyone can try a headlock or whatever.
There’s voice chat on discord right?
Maybe you can hop on discord with someone here and play with them and they can guide you over voice chat or something.
This is when when online training mode would come in so handy.
Try a headlock against even a mediocre grappler and you’ll immediately be swept. Boxing is great, but a pure grappler will almost always beat a pure striker.
