As opposed to Smug robbing everybody with his Balrog (and sometimes G) from just one stray hit?
People generally don’t keep their EVO reigning champion title the following year
Besides AfroCole (2001->2002), KO and Daigo (2003->2004), Nuki (2007->2008) and Daigo again (2009->2010), that is
There are more than that too in non-SF-games. SonicFox, JWong and Crow come to mind.
But yeah, the tougher the competition, the harder it is to defend a title. Even if you’re a clear cut favorite you might not be statistically favored to win, you’re just more likely to win than your competitors.
There’s no “SF” model, the more important thing is that they don’t bust open the rules. For me even as annoying as all fuck that he is, Birdie is a good SF design, because almost all of his options can be countered with another option. A beats B.
What pisses me off is characters that can just do wtf they want with big pay off and no risks and if there’s a risk it’s vastly outweighed by its power.
Honestly though SF6 I think will probably be terrible, but I’d imagine I’ll be retired by then. Woo hoo
Characters that i want to be added to SFV depends on how much juice this game still has.
If it’s still around for years i wouldn’t mind seeing master Gouken, if SF6 is around the corner then i’m whatever really.
Keep your expectations low for EVO would be my advice. At least one character will be added and possibly new critical arts as they are easier to implement the new v-skills,though new v-skills would be cooler.
Unless they do a proper balance patch that either drops down all the current top tiers or brings the entire lower half of the roster to a similar level then the best SF5 won’t be coming.
