SFV Lounge: I'm still alive. Sakura's alt is kinda cute

ID software often delivers.

Not always.

Wolf 360, quake 4, Doom 3, Wolf 1, Wolf NC, Rage 1, Rage 2.

While not bad, are not super top tier (have not played rage 2 yet).

Quake 4 is super underrated actually.

It got some hate because people were expecting another Quake 3 arena. But the game is a lot of fun.

I will never forget the stroggification process, holy shit…

I could be wrong, but my understanding of Rage 2 is that id only worked on the weapons and movement mechanics, which is what everyone seems to praise about the game. The story and otherwise design was handled by Activision, iirc

I played and finished Rage 2 a few weeks ago, including most of it’s side content.

The game’s story is generic but the gameplay is top tier. Arguably one of the best shooters i’ve played lately.

The guns feel heavy and satisfying to use.The open world itself is full of stuff to do.My personal favorites are the crusher nests and mutant camps. These act like dungeons and can get quite difficult, but that’s the fun of it.

They pretty much nailed the combat and mobility in that game. It’s very satisfying. If they actually put more work into the story the game would had received much better reviews.

Several of the games I listed weren’t developed by ID proper

Wolf 360 - Raven
Quake 4 - Raven
Wolf NC - Machine Games
Rage 2 - Avalanche

I don’t think any of those are actually bad, but… they aren’t that great either. (Again have not played Rage 2 yet so going with general consensus).

Can’t I just ignore the stuff I don’t want to acknowledge man?

Sure.

But like I said I actually think those games are pretty good.

Wolf NC is about as close as they come to actually not being good. I go back and forth on that game a lot.

Actually, that’s an interesting thought. Given no dev is perfect, who is the most consistently high quality? I’m gonna go with Nintendo, but not sure who’s in second. Naughty Dog?

I’d go with nintendo as first too. There aren’t many bad ones, and so many legendary ones.

Not sure on 2nd.

There are a lot of game in the series that got unjustified hate.

Take for example DOOM 3 & DOOM 3 Resurection of Evil.

These games got criticized mostly because they were slower paced then former Doom games. These ones focused on narrow areas and took away some of the power the character had.But that was the idea, Doom 3 was made to be more of a “horror” game then previous titles where you run and gun.

But it delivered a ok story tbh, satisfying gameplay, long campaign ,great sound design and arguable one of the best use of lighting i’ve seen in a video game. The areas were very moody and creepy,as intended. You do feel lost at times in that huge facility.

Doom 3 is good, and it has good art.

But I never really “liked” playing it. Not that it played badly, but it’s alot like many modern games where the hook isn’t actually the gameplay. As a result, I don’t think it has aged well, and I don’t have a huge desire to go back to it.

Doom 2016 on the other hand… is the opposite, and as a result will be somewhat timeless.

I just have more fun using it tbh…

Makes you focus on FOOSIES!

Doom 2016 is quite good but i kinda see it more as horde mode game.I often find myself into scenarios where i walk around and nothing happens then i find a big area and have to survive the waves until it can auto save the checkpoint. Very satisfying gameplay ( i am currently replaying it ).

Doom 3 on the other hand had more narrow areas and it had a lot of jump scare moments where demons spawned next to you, were hidden around and unlike 2016 , DOOM 3 is a VERY dark game.I’m talking about OG Doom 3 where you had to equip the flashlight separate from the gun.You could not have light and shoot at the same time, they only added that in DOOM 3 BFG the remake.

Slower paced game but i did enjoy it and i still do.

I got pissed with Doom 3. I downloaded it one night and played for about 2 hours until I finally died.

And realized I was suppose to save my progress, lol. Never played it again. I did like what I played though, but yeah, I thought of it more like an RE game than a DOOM one.

Speaking of horde mode.

Why has the serious Sam collection not been released on PS4/Xbox yet? It was leaked in. February.

I need to genecide some kleers.

They keep saying soon…

That said, they have a habit of just dropping games with minimal buildup, so it could be out next week for all we know.

The “Kleer Hallway” from SS1 is one of the most memorable moments in shooter history. I want more.

If we want to talk favorite weapons.

I’m gonna have to give my nod to Unreal Tournament. With a manly nod to Halo.

I was a sucker for the Flack Cannon, loved that animal.
