I think VTs were fine back in the beta to very early S1 era. It went off the rails with 4 out of the 6 S1 DLC characters though. In the initial 16 the only character I remember having a really dumb VT was maybe Mika.
Back then I strongly preferred VTs to Ultras. Several years into SFV and I’d rather go back to Ultras. Yeah they were all just damage dump super 2.0 but characters in 4 were much more varied then they are in 5, at least pre VT pop.

Hey as long as you like the art that’s what matters~
…and if you maybe throw some money at Dias
So there should be still a exception to the rule for few character in a case for a recovery mechanic?
I still go back to SF4 every now and then. Still have a ton of fun with it. There are things I prefer in SF4 to V and vice versa.
It used to feel awkward shifting between the two games, but now I feel like I can play both without much of an issue.

Yep same here.Problem is there aren’t many that play it and connections are shady at best.

Unless I’m completely mistaken, the SFIV EVO wins were:
2009 - Daigo, Ryu
2010 - Daigo, Ryu
2011 - Fuudo, Fei Long
2012 - Infiltration, Akuma
2013 - Xian, Gen
2014 - Luffy, Rose
2015 - Momochi, Ken/E.Ryu
I don’t think this is a good argument for anything, but if we’re going to use EVO wins as an indication of anything, I really only see 2 actual vortex characters there.
An actual better argument there is the Daigo - Infiltration TGS ft10, where Daigo had labbed up Akuma so hard that he blocked nearly all of the aforementioned vortex setups.
Or we could just say “pick your poison” to which set of flaws you’d rather live with in your game. I’m taking SFIV over SFV there.
In other news, I tried playing SSBU teams just now. That shit is wack.

Another day, another post using points I made years ago. I see you, I see you all. Disagreeimg with me at the time only to come back and acknowledge the Gawd without giving him credit.
Characters in 5 arent low tier because their triggers suck, they’re low tier because the charactera suck. You’re making a game where you admit you’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how a character’s tools and…then half of them dont habe workabke anti airs and a standing medium kick from cammy bullies them to death.
SF4 neutral: it had a lot of “fair” hitboxes but that kind of downplays the rest of it. Fireballs worked, normals worked in various areas, and unique gameplans worked. Took SF5 3 years to really differentiate some characters and not make others entirely obsolete.
4 had the knockdown game from hell (a lot of it because of guaranteed OSes tied to unblockables at times) and you could jab jab jab jab jab xx into something. Still the midscreen gameplay was waaay better and you spent a lot of time playing it.

MK11 big boy damage game
Also walkspeeds are great, Boon on twitter says movement even better in launch build to boot.

That’ll work considering I hear people complain that the dashes are slow. If the walk speed is fast won’t need to dash too much any way.

Yeah i think lame VT’s are what keep the mid tiers from being high tier. The actual low tiers are just bad in general.
