Well, it’s not like anyone actually thinks he has poor execution. He’s just in a weird niche where he’s completely committed to consistency over optimization. So much so that he’s happy to compete with a character before he’s even learned their best stuff.
Plasma I can deal or find a way around with Falke usually.
Can’t fight them fireballs on equal footing for some old school fireball game, but she has ways to chip and annoy plasma throwers.
Now Sim limbs…
The people who claim Justin has “bad execution” definitely exist. They’re not worth listening to, obviously, but I stumble over them relatively often.
The consistency part is true though. There is little flash and few optimizations, just safe, smart play. I watched top 4 of the MvC2-tour that was recently posted on Team spooky, Justin took a game in winners finals literally by flying away the entire match and chucking hailstorm at Servbot whenever he called an assist. Can’t risk dropping combos if you’re not doing any combos, after all.
I’ve heard this a lot too. Especially in the MVC3 days. Fact is, he may not be a combo monster but his spacing, fundamentals and reads are just excellent. Honestly, I’d take his footsies over being able to do fancy combos which are hard to execute any day of the week.
C V S 2 B O Y S F O O T S I E S
A groove activation xx nothing.
Only J.Wong can do that and the commentators just roll with it. Everyone else its a dropped combo or their execution is sloppy
Mmm, toughish match but gets easier as you play. Big things I do -
DP every sweep, even sit in spots where shed use sweep deliberately.
On that the effective range for her is just outside the sweep range. Low shots. St.mk , st mk, low shot, st.mk ( got it yet!)
Cr.lk spam stops a lot of her forward moving shenanigans including the EX stuff Think Rashid, the way they do it.
They won’t be jumping that much, that’s what makes it hard. No point pushing buttons mid screen up close , her throw sends you far away, no biggie.
It’s not a match where I can think of any immediate tips. It’s very much how good is your spacing vs how good are their button presses.
The guy didn’t use too many sweeps funnily enough, I do know to HP.DP most sweeps on block though. It was mainly being forced into playing just within st.mk range so he couldn’t bypass my fireballs, felt really risky.
I’d close distance, throw out cr.lk to secure advantage/shut down dashes, and then feel out the fireball game with some st.mks to stop early jump frames. But it’s like, even when close she can just one hit confirm st.mp and still be +1 on block, or do st.hp xx dash and confirm into tenko if it hits.
Deffo seems like one of his tougher MUs, I was surprised how hard it felt.
EDIT**
Had a glance over his data yesterday, his cr.lk being 5f is so fucking stupid.
I’m unsure if it. Maybe slight advantage Karin. I’d have to play a higher level one to be sure, about the best I’ve had is ultra plat.
She’s not a character you come across often. Despite being pretty good.
Tons of decent ones flying about in EU, most of our masters and above have a Karin
Be cool if I played there. Better player pool.im Gona go to a tourney this weekend again though, I got a feel for it last time.
waiting on Final Round and a potential 4.5, beg they fix some of his data up. Give st.hp a better use than just being a threat with VT/Super. Speed up his lights. St.hk that can hit further out on crouchers.
Idk why it feels like I have weaker ranged poke on a character that’s like 6’8.
I definitely want at least one heavy on Sagat that isn’t super fair or is kinda cheap but doesn’t hit crouchers. Give the King back strong heavies that hit crouchers.
It’s all speed really, the range is there. I think personal preference I’d like cr.fierce to be the fast one, since it also crushes and we are crouched a lot.
They have to be careful with st.mk , that button would turn eventhubs into a blubbering mess, but shaving even a frame would help. Maybe 2 tops.
Making his cr.mp or st.mp a frame better would also help.
Maybe a slight buff on the back walk speed.
He really is into tweak territory now. He’s very close to being strong, just not quite there.
Yeah its weird Sagat is a giant but I feel like he has less reach than people a foot shorter than him?
As a note, I should be using MK koku when I get the CH cLK>sMP as that leaves me at +2 instead, so I beat the 3 framers. LK Koku also has better advantage in a midair hit.
Really though, if you back tech the Koku knockdown I don’t get anything.
Also, if you have a 3 frame, mashing jab is generally good against the old man as he doesn’t have many “real” 3 frame traps.
Regarding Abi. That’s why I don’t need play him much anymore, he’s missing something. Too many times it feels like he doesn’t have any “real” tools, just massive damage output. So the matchup is just trying playbthe law of averages and random something out.
I just think making st.hk’s first hit on block -4, and making it hit slightly longer out would fix most of my issues with the lack of big CC hitter. Maybe shave a frame of the first hitbox activation.
He’s then got a Karin/Ken/Sakura/Cody etc esque CC to just throw out and convert from.
He has long range on some things like his s.MK can hit Ibuki from 3 character lengths away, but then other things like c.HP are unnecessarily short. I understand the frame trap buttons like s.MP being short because they’re frame trap buttons that’s how the game works, but yeah.
His s.LK is actually the best s.LK he’s had since Vanilla SFIV, just needs a little more rounding out of the other stuff.
It’s not even the fact that he “needs” the CC for neutral conversions, but he needs a threat of something bigger than a st.mk toe poke. People won’t be deterred to respect options if that’s the most he can go for on the ground, it’s not big enough.
Reminds of how G and Falke relate to him. Their zoning isn’t quite as oppressive as his, but they can zone well enough and actually have heavies that hit grounded people that go into real damage. Get a better middle ground with them than Sagat who might only cover a few matchup scenarios a little bit better than them.
