parry on wakeup is usually not good and is most often used by low level players. don’t be condescending to “SF4 tards” if you think parry on wakeup is a good defensive option.
“just block” is the right answer in most SF games. block low, react to overheads, late tech throws. that’s the “order of operations” of basic defensive decision making. you fucked up and got knocked down, now you have to deal with pressure until you can reset the situation to safety. this is a good thing! it means every neutral situation has significance, because fucking up there means you are at a disadvantage or the next ~3-5 seconds.

@IglooBob That’s what I mean but these 09ers don’t understand the concept of blocking and gameplay fundamentals, they think you should be allowed to fuck up and then also be allowed to escape your mistake…this is what happens when you have so many options like in sf4 people think that is the norm but that game was the exception to the rules of fighting games

2 punches for quick rise, 2 kick for backrise
You can block which pushes the attacker away from you, you can V-Reversal to stop any offensive momentum and set you back to neutral immediately, you can tech throws, you can back roll or quick rise on knockdown, heck you can even quick rise when thrown, you got backdashes and you got reversals.
Thinking about it, there’s actually a ton of defensive options in SFV.

Ehh alot of the normals all feel like they have shitty propertys n weird shit trades n counters. Ya both get blown back. You get knocked down or they do… that n alot of normals are paw sticking out a jumping knee or elbow thats worthless. The hit box on cross ups feels wonky…we all know how to block obvious cross ups. Game does not

The defensive options are still there, but it’s the RISK that has changed. No FADC to make uppercuts safe, high damage across the board making a blocked DP insanely risky, teching throws carries far more risk than before. The offense is not as good either, throws are 5 frames, the frame advantage on moves is much smaller, very long light chains are gone, etc. which means if you read a throw, you can actually jab through the grab and hit him, but then you take the risk of getting frame trapped. All around it’s better this way.

You need to remember “3rd Strike priority system”. Lights will always get blown up by heavier normals if they trade.
As an OG in my own area, my answer would have been “dont let yourself be knocked down”. And it seems where SFV is heading. No magical ticket/easy out of knockdowns (but no braindead vortex setups too).

Everyones command throws need a larger reach. Except gief…that nuggas reach on spinning the sticks just fine…and he walking like a track star now. Dont like it. Need a button that Anti A that body splash. Hoping they fucking give alot of chars with no dp a anti air…its ruff for some of the cast free jump ins on alot

I think small throw reach is reasonable considering lack of powerful reversals. If we’re going to tell people to block, then blocking should at least be pretty good. Else we’re just going to get into jab wars anytime someone touches the other person.
It’s not like you can’t land command throws now as it is.
