How would Capcom evolve his design ???

Art style? Return him to final fight outfit. None of those dudebro tattoos, random gun necklace (seriously no idea why they did this instead of just making it a nice simple gold pendant or dog tag as his original art was). I suppose they could keep the brass knuckles but eh not really needed. Clean up his scruff and hair a bit. A nice simple clean return to his original outfit would actually surprise a lot of people.

Then add onto it by keeping his handcuffs or making them optional or something. While it would be cool to not have the cuffs and just be just like his FF outfit, keeping the cuffs keeps the mystique of his Alpha/SF4 design. Part of what people like about Cody is the idea he is holding back. The cuffs are purely cosmetic to remind himself, and others, that he is holding back. Like a ribbon around your finger.

Yeah, Akuma holds back storyline wise but artistically it’s more interesting to people to actually SEE how the character is limiting themselves. Like oro with his one arm usage unless he is performing a full power super where he uses both arms.

Said it before, a really good way to show he has grown as a character and returning to his “Hero” side but still having a bit of that badboy persona would be to have him cuffing himself during the walk on fight intro each character has.

If they return to the prison outfit they could go even further and give him leg shackles or the classic ball and chain and use that for some new moves.

Fair enuf, as long as they return him to the Final Fight art style for the most part, not like his SF4 Alt costume, more of a clean look, it’d go over very well. He’s never been represented that way in SF as his main look.

They actually said in early developer interviews that they wanted to go this route in SF4 but were convinced to keep him as an anti-hero by the west.

First, tell us about how Cody made it into the game.

Okada:
The same as Guy, we heard that Cody is very popular overseas, and to tell you the truth, he was one of the leading candidates for new characters. The Cody we wanted to put in the game was the one from Final Fight, but Alpha 3 Cody is the one that’s most popular overseas. When we asked why, the answer was, “We (overseas) like anti-heroes, so that’s why we like Cody.” So then it became, “Please give us Street Fighter Alpha 3 Cody!” and that’s how we decided on putting him in.

I see… but, it would have been nice to see Final Fight Cody again after such a long time.

Okada:
Well, Final Fight Cody has never been in a fighting game, so players would have a much different impression of him. They would probably think, “This isn’t Cody!” For that reason, I think it was good to use Alpha as the base. Guy is also based on his Alpha version.

Tsukamoto:
That’s true. That bored look, the handcuffs, and the prison garb certainly leave an unforgettable impact, and I liked it. But when I hear the name “Cody”, what immediately comes to mind is the Final Fight look - the T-shirt and jeans.

Theres no need to make him his own separate character when you can just change the attack colors. (turning the electric effect to SNH purple fire doesn’t necessarily have to change the attacks properties/damage)

They could release an Evil Ryu costume set with custom visual effects (DotA calls them ‘Arcanas’), like his own personalized hadouken and even win poses (all the hurt/hitboxes are the same so it doesn’t affect the gameplay at all). It would sell really well and it would spare the community of another shoto.

These full blown visual remakes would actually be AMAZING, since they don’t cost as much as new characters to make but will sell like hotcakes.

Imho best option for E.Ryu without waste slots will be give Ryu a selectable alt V-trigger that work like Necalli’s
