Sigh, Akuma confirmed and still using the same old dark gi.

So they couldn’t even wait to season 3 to start bringing the recycled clone shit. Him and Sagat together as the poster boys for S2 make me expect close to nothing from it.

Why not Gill?

Akuma back, yay!! lol

On the flip side … that stage though! Maybe they’ll do something interesting with Akuma in this game like we got with Ken.

Him being a Capcom Cup leads me to believe Akuma is going to kick off Season 2 in late December. Probably going to get 8-10 characters for Season 2 if they’re using a fairly simple character like Akuma.

I’m starting to think S2 will be all the popular shotos. Akuma, Sagat, Sakura, Evil Ryu.

Akuma and Sagat are cool.

Save Sakura and E.Ryu for Season 2020. Jesus no.

Aside from this. The background maybe means that we’ll have the grass stage from alpha 2 back ? (yes please)

I like the stage, if it have an alt version it can be Ryu’s one

In what context is shoto being thrown around? I understand Akuma, Ryu, Ken and Evil Ryu fit that archetype but I don’t understand why people hate them so much. Ken and Ryu in SFV are approached really differently both fighting against and as, does it matter that their movesets are similar if they function differently? I see no difference in complaining about grapplers being too plentiful, same thing to me but just as stupid.

I understand the term clone character comes around, but all that’s similar about Ryu and Ken is that they train under the same art. They play a hell of a lot differently and aren’t anywhere near SF2 clone status.

It’s a boring archetype and USF4 had like ten of them.

Evil Ryu is very unlikely, but Akuma, Sagat, and a revamped Sakura (CVS2 SAKURA WHEN) could be interesting. Probably means Dan and Sean won’t be here for a while if ever.

As for rounding out the roster beyond those 3, we’ve seen hints towards Oro and Viper, plus the Bruce Lee pic a while back that some (myself included) took as a Fei Long hint. This seems a bit heavy on shotos/projectile characters for my tastes, but whatever. Probably going to throw in some Final Fight or 3S to balance it out.

They cant put all their golden eggs (rotten for me) in one basket. Who are they releasing for Season 4 or 5? Cycloid B, Remy and Rufus?

I would be very surprised if Sagat isn’t next. Shit I’m tempted to go to Capcom Cup now lol.

Yes, Sagat probably is next, which is sad to think about. If the first three characters in S2 are Akuma, Sagat and Sakura, I’ll cry (and I even want two of those three characters eventually, just not like that).

Hope Season 2 isnt all boring characters like Akuma :frowning:

This attempt to paint the grapplers in the same light that the shotos is lame as hell. Having three same special moves which in the case of Ryu and Ken it’s all the specials they got + a fair share of normals =/= having the command grab and that’s it.

Let’s call about three quarters of the cast zoners because they all have projectiles in one form of another while we’re at it so we can then ask for no more zoners then.

The following should be obvious, but some people seem to be keeping the head on the ground:

In terms of visuals, shotos suck because all of them are medium weight karatekas with the same gi look and fighting style which don’t even represent the martial art as well as Makoto. Anyone dare to tell that Hugo and Zangief are equally alike just like any pair or shotos. Or Chun and Cammy. Or Yun and Gen. That’s what “playing nothing like each other” truly means, not some derivatives whose design is rooted on the same core. The effort spend making a pair of shotos won’t ever be the same even if they sprinkle some differences here and there. Even characters like Nash-Guile or Dhalsim-Necro are more differentiated than them, only the dolls rival their homogeneity.

In terms of gameplay, they are hated because they get buffed up to the upper tiers by default thanks to blatant developer favoritism in all the wrong ways to maximize the chances of winning for the scrubby casuals that pick them. And if they somehow fail, they’re quick to correct it with generous nerfs on the characters that happen to beat them. It’s not Daigos or Tokidos what we play against most of the time but the Ghandis and Altaccounts and the modern shoto design is made to fit the latter first and the former after that.

Rant aside, let’s hope the new character slots cover one of this archetypes and isn’t Gief-FANG-Bison levels of bad:
Puppet character
Area of denial zoner with static orbs or turrets.
Stance character because Vega is a farce at that.
Pixie character. Only Rashid partially qualifies.
Slow, big, armored character that hits like a truck. There’s Birdie at mid low tier and Bison at Bison tier.

So Akuma is headlining season 2.

What a waste. We could’ve had AN EMPEROR but we had to settle for a master.

Diehards are in denial, but Akuma will make SF great again. Illuminati were not able to bring sales up, Capcom had to pull the trigger and summon the demon. He will come with arcade mode to top it off and skyrocket SFV to place it deserves to be.

If Akuma is plot heavy in this, I have the bad feeling that this would be the final season? Akuma and Gill should I say are more of an conclusion characters of SFV? If Akuma isn’t plot heavy thats okay…

-Could be done with Poison/Hugo, probably requires a new character though
-Ed/Rose could fit the bill
-Gen/Lee
-Isn’t Akuma the quintessential pixie? Otherwise, Yun or even Viper work
-Basically any grappler could be given armor
