Who else in SF5 ever had a cancelable standing MK? One of Karin’s distinguishing traits is that she doesn’t have to poke with rekkas, but rather can cancel a good poke into rekkas.
As for the rest, Abel and Karin are about as different as Sagat and Sakura. If there’s anything else like Karin in SF it’s a SFxT Tekken character with their variable strings.
Her mixup is not inherently obsolete. You might be able to react to a Tekken character’s overhead string, but that doesn’t mean you will. And if you over-focus on blocking that, you might let them get away with the option that leads to further pressure, like no continuation -> another mixup, or a safe ender at worst.
The biggest problem with Abel’s rekka is that the entire thing is unsafe. You can even mash DP if he commits to it. He has no way to make you respect it. Karin doesn’t even have to play that game - she can just pretend to be Fei Long if she wants. And it’s true that in Alpha she has to worry about CC, which beats counter and staggers, so leaving a gap via her rainbow chop is usually not a good idea (real reason you don’t see it.) But there’s no such thing in SF5, so she’s automatically in a better position.
Also, if you think an overhead during rekka will be blocked automatically, then why would anyone ever get hit by an overhead? There’s more space when you link into an overhead with other characters than there is when you cancel into one during a rekka which also includes the option of a staggered low. It might also be useful for catching lows, or V-reversals (which could be a common response to rekka pressure.)
As for the other stuff like elbows, I suppose you could take it or leave it, although it does have its place sometimes for combo stuff. Not the first time a character had something like that - and I expect Karin would have some nice combos with her rekka, based on the idea that it would almost certainly be buffed by her VT (they are supposed to amplify a character’s strengths.) Playing Omega Fei Long I can’t help but be reminded of Karin’s moves in some places (MK chicken wing is like her super.)
Agree that EX moves are a huge question mark though. Can you use EX specials during a normal Rekka? Does EX rekka turn every followup into an automatic EX move?
So apparently, three people disagree with me and think the SF Movie Game is better than the EX series :o
If this guy who posts in the Bison forums is to be believed, then the next few reveals will be characters that have projectile moves. Maybe Dhalsim then?
Also talks about popular characters returning so I’m expecting Karin or Sakura soon.
I know I started off saying Akuma and Sakura would be the last returning green spot characters as a joke, but Akuma and Sakura.

But her specials are already useful as it is. Let me break it down again…
Her upkicks are essentially, a safer low counter since it beats most lows and is relatively safe on block. I strongly disagree with it being a command normal and not being a rekka ender. Why are you removing options? Her rekkas would be increasingly risky to pressure with if you’re removing something like that. I dont think any of her specials should be changed to commands/target combos. That’s just stupid, especially if they arent enders anymore. She could probably benefit from 1 added command normal.
Also, are you truly saying that she doesn’t have a high/low game? Because she does and it’s effective. Her overhead special is not as bad as how you’re making it out to be. I don’t see why you keep saying it’s super easy to block. Yes it’s telegraphed a little, but it’s pretty fast and will get the job done if used sparingly as it should be. Especially if he’s getting pressured on a lot, he will most likely freeze up at some point and block incorrectly. If he tries to hit you out, then that should tell you that you need stop using her overhead too much and either do upkicks or counter. You can also chase down your opponent with full-screen rekka into slide or overhead. What’s scarier is that she can do nothing. And plus she already has a command overhead on top of all this. You must not be using her moves to their full capability. Do not underestimate her high/low game. Karin’s rekka game is all about pressuring your opponent, reading him and his habits closely, and making guesses on what your opponent will do and counter it. If you’re pressuring your opponent a lot, he will make mistakes and might even begin to be predictable in how he will react to the rekkas. This is where all 7 of her enders shine. They already have pretty useful, individual attributes as it is.
Also, I see why her elbows can be seen as redundant but the way I see it, they are two extra rekkas to go into for mindgames. On hit, I see them as damage/combo extenders. They still have some usefulness in my eyes. I can see this being a target combo or whatever, but eh… I still don’t like that idea.

I’d love to see a joker/Prankster character in SF5.
I mean literally, a Joker.
Something similar to these:

The closest thing we got is Necro if i’m not mistaken. But isn’t he a mime…?
THIS! I actually hope the first batch of DLC is 4 unplayable boss characters. Kinda like how Claw, Boxer, Sagat, and Dictator weren’t playable in the original SF2.

IIRC MikeZ had a whole thing about how he in general doesn’t like the concept of unplayable bosses (Someone got a source citation on this?).
I think it only works if you are making a boss like Galactus or in Skullgirl’s case, Marie, where they simply break the rules of the game mechanically and are these giant monstrosities that could NEVER be balanced as playable.
Otherwise you might as well spend that time developing a character meant to be playable in the first place. It’s easy enough to take a character you’ve designed to be playable and turn them up to 11 to make them a boss, look at Oni/Evil Ryu boss versions in SF4.
So in about six hours from now there will be Sony’s TGS event. Considering Capcom’s partnership with Sony, there’s a chance for a character reveal, I guess.
With that in mind, I kind of expect that (or maybe it’s just me being eager for a possible Karin reveal), or at least a trailer for the game which can possibly end with a character teaser (sound effect, silhouette, etc).
EDIT: Yeah the character reveal is more likely this weekend than today/tomorrow but I still think a character teaser can happen (at least).

I doubt it.
But here’s the stream:
There will definitely be a character reveal, but on Saturday. Two seperate events that both fall on Saturday (EST).

could it be possibru that they unveil a new char at the Sony TGS stream that happens from 4 hours nao ?

Highly doubt that.
Its confirmed that we’re getting reveals during the actual show. It would be meaningless to reveal anything now.
Then he gets hit by a frying pan which sends him off-screen, soon after that Karin comes in and says “finally got rid of that guy, now this is MY time to shine.”
Decapre reveal style (or should it be reversed Decapre reveal style in this case?).

Watch them reveal Akuma or Adult Sakura. We are getting a green character not blue. The only thing blue at TGS is the tears of millions of Karin fanboys.
