Yeah vega’s footsies are no joke
I used to use U2 against Vega because I used to frequently get the air-to-air j.HP target combo into Ultra… but now I’m considering doing W Ultra. I like using that in certain matchups where I like having the utility of U1 but 9/10 times I will actually use U2 in the match.
The way that used to work for me is that I would play patiently against him until I managed to knock his claw off. Then I go in much harder with the offense and try to control the area around his claw to prevent him from picking it back up. The match feels so much easier when he doesn’t have it.
That’s a really neat strategy!! Haha, what if you managed to knock his claw off near a corner and threw him away from it? lol His kick pokes are still super good, though.
Downside to that is he can do his wall flip move to get back over there pretty easily. I prefer alternating between going in heavy offense to throw them off the tempo and turtling by his claw. His pokes are still amazing but hey… whatever you can do to limit his options helps.
so, ultra has had a little bit to sink in, how does everyone feel about chuns buffs and how she fits into the game overall so far? where would you place her?
I have her high mid tier.
I still don’t quite know how DWU factors into her game… Chun doesn’t seem to be faring too badly, although she still has a few tough match-ups. I think Fuerte might be trouble, too, but not sure how much better he really is. I think Guy & Blanka got worse and Abel is a little harder, too.
With Blanka, even with his Vertical rolling knockdown, I still didn’t care if he hit me as long as he was cornered. Vertical rolling felt as bad as a Gouken tatsu knockdown, but now he can EX cancel…
Gouken is also tougher, with a legit reversal that he can FADC.
On the other hand, Chun can punish every option of uppercut FADC with EX Legs, so thats pretty awesome. Risk reward shifts in her favor a lot I think, maybe even for ground oki which she is not that bad at.
She has her share of up-hill fights, a lot of even matches, and a few advantaged matches… I’d probably agree with mid to upper-mid. She is definitely viable and probably has to deal with less unfair bs overall because of DWU. I think she has a lot more 50-50’s now, but a lot of her old even matchups I think might have gotten worse. Fireball zoning gets harder and harder, too. So many improvements on anti-fireball tactics in this update. She’s definitely better but with a lot of things to consider, still.
I need more time playing chun
Been busy with dekapre
I think as the game evolves, the top tier will consist of those who can use RFC really well, and she can kind of do it. Enough to justify high midtier status.
Yeah I’m feeling high-midtier as well. I think she is excellent as a counter-pick character but I still think she loses important matchups.
@chutney DWU really helps. Eased the Akuma matchup a lot, and the Seth/Cammy/Ibuki ones to an extent (until people can consistently do the DWU versions/timings of vortex setups anyway)
My climb is slowly continuing. I haven’t been able to play as much as I want/should but I’ll take what I can get. Ranked 81st highest Chun! Next goal is to get top 75 this weekend and top 50 next week!
I still find myself struggling with YOLO players though. I can somewhat hang with a lot of better opponents and when I lose at least I understand why… but I don’t know if I’ll ever get past losing to nutty players. Maybe I should get a more dominating/less honest character to use for all the nuts out there.
Anyways how are you all feeling about Chun so far? Her buffs have helped me tremendously. Part of me feels like she would be best utilized as a secondary counter-pick character though. She has a lot of problems with top-tier still. I almost feel like she would be the perfect secondary to Yun. He loses to grapplers and Chun does quite well against them. Meanwhile I don’t think there is a perfect secondary for a Chun main
We’ll see though.
Ultra chun has been really fun. I wouldn’t worry about your rank though, I’m like 38 and only a decent chun at best. I’m really concentrating on learning the matchups right now, I’ve had a lot of surprises.
Anyone else feel that cr.hp xx legs is easier in ultra?? lol I know that sounds ridiculous, but I am so consistent suddenly. I really didn’t practice it any from AE to Ultra and I used to flub more often.
personally, by the time I got my chun to B rank in AE, I felt like ranked was just a dumb grind. When I got to A rank, I definitely felt it got even worse, because you get 1 point per win in a lot of situations and -99999999999999999999 for a loss.
im currently c+ and I dont know if I want to play ranked at all really. I know a lot of people online are free but when you add in the netcode and just how boring some of the people are on there i think it becomes less worth it. I may use ranked to learn new characters though, but thankfully I just moved to an area with a very strong offline scene so I really dont need online anymore.
Online is a big time waster… I tend to get sucked into it, but don’t learn much. I feel I have always leveled up much faster from tournament play/casuals and training mode. Even though I have done tons of online in the past, it seems tons of online is what it takes to get to the same point as weekly goers who make more efficient use of their time.
The inability to properly react online just leads to frustration, and/or inappropriate fear. Not fun anymore as Chun.
Online has been great for me so far to see what the changes in ultra look like in a live match, but ultimately yeah, it is what it is… But experience is experience and honestly, it’s just fun.
But my rank don’t mean shit. I was #6 in super for the longest time… I was SOOO not deserving of that, I’m twice the chun now than back then. Goes to show the true talent isn’t playing ranked much.
I agree. High scores is usually just a lot of time playing online. Not saying you are not doing something right, but you are also dealing with people who are constantly doing a lot wrong. It stunts your growth and prevents you from getting to higher levels. No doubt solid at fundamentals, if you can consistently win, but you can only get so far dealing with people who never get too deep into their anti-Chun strategy.
Maybe a better choice is making friends online with good connections…
I think in super I was a top 10 chun in the US on the leader boards. Seeing how much i’ve grown, I really cant help but to laugh at the leader board system. I got to 4k pp pretty quickly and stayed there for a long time. So, even pp doesnt mean shit.
BP actually lowers now, too, though so I guesss you could think of it as a better ranking system… I never knew to check except for once, but I was actually number 2 Chun in Super. haha I never hit 6,000 pp but I was pretty comfy at 5kish. I seriously played a lot of online. I can’t say I am a lot better damage-wise, but I am definitely a lot looser and better at adapting to situations.
I think it is partly because my stick is ghetto now and like 3 of my buttons only work 75% of the time (I can’t ****** TECH!!! sometimes I can’t focus because of mk sticking, so what can you do??), but I am having lots of fun with alternative strategies. … >_> People with legit traps and timing will usually figure out something is wrong with me, and wreck me, so I know that actual skill still plays a role… But even then, I get away with so much crap I know is online BS. Try jumping forward to corner online Blanka who is trying to reaction slide to fireballs. Legit. haha
Anyways, I love this game even though it takes up so much time. Gonna invest in a better stick and better players.
Haha you all can be such killjoys sometimes
But in all seriousness I know online ranking doesn’t indicate much. But there is something nice about having that number next to your name. Besides, it is useful in that it lets me know what I need to work on in training mode. If I’m dropping bnbs then I need to work on that more. If I’m losing to a specific tactic then I need to figure out how to deal with it. Etc etc. Plus, the entire reason I play fighting games is to compete! I don’t want to be stuck in training mode ALL the time xD
I would go as far to say that online ranking means literally nothing. If you get past b rank and you play all the time, it simply means you have a basic grasp of the character. In super I was ranked top 10 and all that as I said, but when I started playing offline I felt like my strategies were just not working as well, and thats because people dont have latency to worry about. People play less stupid offline as well because its not anonymous. The social factor of in person game play is often a big plus for leveling up as well.
I’m not trying to be a killjoy or negative in anyway, but there is a world of difference between offline and online play. Its a different game entirely, and people who play online only probably think its an exaggeration but it simply isnt. The only thing ranked mode is good for in my opinion is getting used to your bnbs and using them at the right time in an unpredictable environment. Other than that, it distracts from training mode. My execution got a lot better when I was broke and didnt have money for xbox live. Its still not that good but still.
Now that I live in an area with a strong scene Im thinking about ditching online entirely, but I dunno, sometimes I get bored so I dont know how realistic itll be.
