SFIV Chun Li General - Fellowship of the Thigh v.2

Moved into a new house recently, further away from Super Arcade. It’s now almost an hour drive with traffic.

I can still make the drive and it’s not bad, but it is farther than usual and I’ve been so busy with work that I haven’t really had much time to practice. Gonna try to start getting back into the groove for EVO. Sorry I haven’t been around much guys.

^You gotta help A1 when you get back to WNF mang. He’s improving by the week, but tends to crumble in the face of pressure and certain matchups.

Those of you who aren’t part of the fb group or don’t check it often:

At about 4:22 that looks like a far HK feint. Get hype?

omfg.

I thought about this but I thought it was too over the top to ask for.

I will use this all the time if this turns out to be true.

…holy crap that’s amazing.

That’s… interesting.

Although I don’t think I could use it that well if it ends up being in the game. Whenever I do it with Sagat, I feel like I’m distracting myself more than the opponent and end up paying for it more than I benefit. Maybe being 100x more solid/used to playing with Chun would make that type of tool more effective, but I’m just not sure.

Edit: One thing that’s strange to me though is that he doesn’t seem to attempt it again. That’s not something I’d think anyone would notice and not try out a couple of times. So maybe it’s just a couple of frames skipped in the video and not really a feint at all. Who knows?

FB group update… says it’s a bug or indeed some missing frames in the video, and not really a Sagat fake kick. :frowning:

sad face

Hey what’s up guys? I’m J.D.E. Some of you may know from the DOA community, the Kasumi player. I’ve been playing Street Fighter forever & now I want to play it competitively or offline. I mainly play Chun Li & Ibuki. I was wondering what’s the gameplan for Chun Li overall? Is there a guide/breakdown? I’ve been studying the mechanics but I need to know a little bit more about it as well. Thanks in advance & look forward to making new friends here in the SF community & meeting some of you as well

Welcome!

She wants to play footsies for the most part. She alternates between hit and run- some matchups she has to rush down and pressure, some matches she wants to keep away. Oftentimes she has to do a combination of both, and maintain her life lead.

This stickied thread is a good place to start: Thigh Life & Style Magazine: Your guide to everything Chun-li!

Then also check the video thread for some ideas on how she plays. For questions you can use the Q&A sticky.

Searching “SF4 Chun-Li tutorials” in Youtube wouldn’t hurt either. :3

@SnakeAes – Have you heard about the newish arcade Ultimate Gaming Center in Van Nuys? They hold tournaments on Saturdays and apparently get a pretty good SF4 turn out. Dunno how close you are to Van Nuys. Would be cool to train with you, sometime. I have been looking for people to level up with…

So, here is a nice hit-confirm set-up I have been enjoying, lately.

F. Throw -> Dash -> J. LK -> LK Legs -> Cl. MP xx MK SBK. I believe light will also work, for ultra’s KD.

This is pretty good as it will work on crouching Ryu (first hit of SBK will stand him up). It covers a variety of options:

-Crosses up [you will have to step forward a frame to beat reversals]
-Safe on block [+2 after legs]
-Frame traps on blocked J. LK [I am guessing it is 2-3 frames open]
-Easy link into Cl. MP [3 frame link]
-Good damage and leads to KD in Ultra

A draw-back is that you don’t get to hit low, but it is not really a big deal considering why people get hit with lows. If the opponent is stand teching, jumping out, or cr. teching - the frame trap is open enough to take care of those options. It is also possible to OS throw tech with LK Legs, in case you want to open up your timing but want to be safe from throws.

Execution wise, it is a little bit tricky but not extremely advanced. You will want to hit with J. LK deep, and piano HK~MK~LK + Crouch LK/LP. Timing is similar to Cl. HK xx HK Legs.

To combo into Cl. MP xx SBK, release your joystick briefly into neutral and quickly input up + mk.

It is also possible to confirm into MK extension for loop variations.

Thanks man! I will do that. I look forward to seeing what I can do with her.

Haha, I know EXACTLY why…

“- While performing Light, Medium, Heavy Spinning Bird Kick Chun-Li will now be knocked down if hit.”

…has become…

“Light spinning bird kick now causes knockdown; damage reduced by 60 (160 → 100); recovery reduced by 2F (12F → 10F); stun reduced by 80 (180 → 100)
Heavy spinning bird kick total damage increased by 10 (200 → 210); now causes knockdown on hit; (recovery increased by 4F (12F → 16F)”

It isn’t because of mk sbk to super, and not just that making non-ex sbk knock down leaves the opponent in a limited juggle state, but much more specifically, it allowed non-ex sbk to ex legs in the corner.

j HK, cl st HP xx hk SBK - 350 damage
j HK cl st HP xx hk SBK, ex legs - 462 damage on Cammy
j HK, cl st HP xx hk SBK, ex legs, ex SBK - 563 damage on Cammy
j HK, cl st HP xx hk SBK, ex legs, U2 - 620 damage (depending)

hk SBK to ex legs was rather character specific (Dhalsim, Boxer, Claw, Viper, Gouken, Cammy, Rose, Hawk, DeeJay) and hard to do as you frequently need the sbk to hit exactly right and then get ex legs out on the earliest frame. By using mk SBK, you didn’t lose much damage and you got an easier to perform combo that worked on everyone but Blanka, Rufus, El Fuerte, Akuma, Ibuki, and Oni. There are bunch of ways to apply this including after a focus crumple, and they all did a hefty chunk of damage for only a little meter.

At its silliest, you got:
CH nj HP, cl st HP xx hk SBK, ex legs, ex SBK stun nj HP, U1 - 801 damage on Cammy

But now only lk sbk to ex legs will work, with reduced damage and stun.

@Necrotrophic‌ now you see why i dont care about that “buff”?

I’m sad about the HK feint not being real. I do get it read/punished occasionally in footsies, especially by characters who can cancel into forward moving specials (Dudley cancels into EX MGB for example for an easy way to get in off a good read).

Anyway, Van Nuys is unfortunately the opposite direction of the direction I moved in - I moved further eastbound into the Inland Empire while I used to live in East LA County. Super is still the closest option for me and I still have been too busy to make it out there to WNF recently.

Also, I don’t want to put anyone on blast, but does anyone know who Omar EC is on the Chun Fellowship facebook group? Is he on SRK? That dude has been getting on my nerves.

ask @4neqs about that hahaha

but yeah he is very scrubish

Wow, U1 damage reduced. I had a feeling something would go… didn’t think it would be that though.

Yeah…it kinda sucks that the damage was reduced by a lot, but if the hit change means having U1 viable against the whole cast (I hope this might be the case), I think that would be a good enough trade off. (It would help against characters like Akuma, Gen, Viper, Adon, Gouken, Sakura)

@SnakeAes sent you a pm

I don’t like the ambiguity on the way it was worded. I mean is it only on juggle or is it the grounded version as well? Come on Combo. Spit it out.
