Pumped for the PS lobby system we meeting at your place Sal. Going to dominate poker again.
Can someone please help me with countering the ridiculous throwing in this game? I’m about to rant, vent, whine, etc. But the throwing in this game is such a joke. I have no problem with anyone doing throwing. It’s in the game. But when you grew up on ST where if you were thrown and was thrown far enough where you didnt get thrown 15 times in a row unless you were playing Gief you didnt worry about that. And speaking about Gief they eventually fixed it so that when he did do his spd he would bounce back and you didnt have to worry about getting hit with it again.
Fast forward to this great game and I get jab 5 times followed by short 5 times and grab. Okay I say next it is 5 jabs times 5 followed by short times 4 followed by grab. I could go on and on but when I lose it is because of stupid ass grabs. Oh and because I dont know how to stop the grabbing I try to punch or kick to maybe stop their string of jabs and short which then lead to stupid combos or better yet, lets say I do stop all 100 (exaggeration) of thier string of jabs and then viola I am dizzy for blocking. Ridiculous.
Sorry guys but getting someone dizzy off of blocking is retarded especially when I cant retaliate because my character has wierd block stun properties. I could go on but I’m not trying to insult those who play this game but it’s so infuriating get beat off of such tactics.
Again if someone wants to work with me I would appreciate it. I know there has to be something to it because I see people teching throws all the time. But honestly until I figure this out I dont need to play this game.
Thanks and end of rant.
Do you understand the concept of crouch teching? if not thats probably your deal right there. Once you figure that out go to training mode record different loops using grab and practice your crouch teching.

Best to meet in the SFCCL Clubhouse instead of my personal space since the Clubhouse can hold 30 players. Personal spaces can only hold 12. Also, the Clubhouse is always open compared to the personal space only available when I am there.
BTW - the Clubhouse is for league members only. I’ve placed a poker table, a pool table, and a couple of arcade games in there for all to enjoy. Poker sounds fun while we wait or even after the event. Just look for your “Invites” when in Home, and you’ll be able to go the Clubhouse. SO much potential there, but Sony has paid little to no attention to the idea of the Clubhouse. Imagine if I could link videos there to our matche son YouTube? Nope.
Thanx for the vids, HADUKEN.
OK, first off, you can’t get dizzy simply by blocking 100 jabs or light kicks. You don’t even lose energy unless you block a special attach (fireball / dragon punch). The reason you do get dizzy by a few jabs is b/c the throws do count towards getting your character stunned. So, the combination of a few jabs and a couple of throws is what gets you dizzy, not blocking.
Next, the throw startegy is as old as SF. I know exactly what you’re talking about when you mention Zangief jumping back far enough to not repeat his spinning piledriver. I remember those days, but throwing strats were still an issue then. I remember playing back in the SFII Turbo days. I was a very good player back then and there wasn’t anyone that I couldn’t beat consistently. However, getting to that point was a long journey. I particularly remember a time when I played against a guy at my local arcade. I lost most or all of our matches against him, not because he was overall better than me but simply b/c that guy threw me all over the screen during our matches. He couldn’t do much else against me, but he was an expert at throwing. He made me change up my strategy doezen of times simply b/c he threw me anytime we got close. He was using Ryu BTW, not Zangief. Everytime I approached him, he threw me down. Those session taught me when & where to throw in the game. I learned from that and took it with me from that point on.
Back then, there was none of this tech-throwing garbage. These days, we probalbly would have teched out everytime, but back then it was who ever inputted the command first. Now, there is a small time window to nullify each other. As HADUKEN says, paractice in the training mode. I’ve learned to tech over time, but I still don’t like it. I’ve done it both in an offensive attack as well as a defensive attack. There may be frame rate data about throwing with certain characters, but I’m not an expert on that techy stuff.
The jab-jab-throw technique is simply someone being aggressive against you while knowing you are content to block his attacks, therefore, he throws you. Then, the next time he knows you are anticipating the throw, he simply finished his attack. The mixups in SFIV is part of what makes this game so more much more complex than previous SF games. It’s why I’m just an average player in SFIV. I still play by SF2 rules. If you are getting dominated with Dhalsim by these techniques, then you shoudl work on zoning your opponents to prevent them from getting close to you. The best Sim players I’ve faced online dictate the space and action to me. And I get poked, thrown, and flamed to death. Those that let me in close I do exactly what you describe b/c Sim is slow inside. Not having an EX dragon punch/tiger uppercut/flaming kick doesn’t help either. These attacks keep those poking-throwers at bay since the EX moves trump their throwing.
Sim is a difficult character to master. At first glance, he seems to be easy b/c of his long fast limbs. But he has serious drawbacks if not played correctly. Those that master him (like Arturo Sanchez - look up his videos vs Daigo’s Ryu) can give anyone problems.
I would love to counter or make an argument regarding what you said but really what I want to know is how to crouch tech? Telling me to go in training mode doesnt help. If I know, the throw is going to come that really isnt effective. Are people inputting attacks while the opponent is inputting theirs? This is what I need to know.
Can’t wait.
if you need help learning to crouch tech i can definitely show you. In a nut shut if you are crouching and you input throw either a CLK or CLP will come out because in SF4 u cannot grab from a crouching state. But if your oppenent is on top of you and goes for a grab while you are crouch teching you will stand up and counter the grab, if they decided to not grab and walk up to you your lk or lp will catch them. Thats where you practice the loops. If ryu jumps in on you and goes LP LP grab, u just need to get the timing down and press the crouch tech so if he misses his timing u will catch him with a CLP/CLK if he goes for the grab u will counter it. Seems really easy but gets deeper with all kinds of crouch tech setups. You can also crouch tech with other buttons. U could crouch press both LP/LK for grab but also press MP. SF reads the highest button first. so if they are in close you crouch tech with those three button and they fake grab and try something else then u may catch them with a crouch MP and get control back. Every character has different set ups and every person like to use different setups. Playing rufus I bait crouch techs all day. I will Falcon kick in throw a light kick get them to crouch tech and instant falcon kick. because they are crouch teching they will poke out a jab and i will land on top of it for a free combo. Hope this helped some I know its a lot to take in but the best thing to do is just go to training mode and practice different loops and just get used to the idea and concept of it. Then u can learn how u want to implement it in your strategy. Sim is one of the few characters i dont play so im not really sure what his setups are. but im sure if you go to the sim section on srk u could probably find lots of different setups and counters using the crouch tech technique. understanding crouch tech will not only help your defensive strategy but your offensive strategy as well especially if you know someone is sitting hard on that crouch tech.
haha wow thats a sweet idea be pretty sweet to watch videos in the clubhouse while u wait for your fight.
I also think a good prize for war games is the ability to challenge one of your losses and play the match over, just food for thought.
That would be awesome man. Let me know either by PM or just send me a message when I’m on my ps3. Thank you again.
sounds good ill go pick up a usb head set today, so we can communicate.
Hopefully I’ll be able to make it. Just got my new HDR Hauppauge so I’m itching to record some high quality stuff with it.
Also, I’m looking into how to stream gameplay. If you want and if I can learn how to set it up by tonight, I could try setting up a stream for the lobby (or maybe for the next event if I can’t get it done on time).
I might just be getting over excited about my new toy but I’m very interested in playing around with this thing as much as possible.
Nah bro, the hauppauge hd pvr is nice. I mean you can record all of your games in HD not just Street Fighter. I only wish youtube gave you the option to putlonger than 15 minute sessions. You should be giddy about it. It is easy to setup and transfer files straight to youtube. It only gets hairy if you start wanting to edit and add logos and add commentary. And while I say that it probably is easy to do that too I just haven’t tried it. I used windows movie player and that was pretty easy to add logos now that I think about it.
I will look for the Justin TV link so you can setup an account and try streaming. I havent done streaming but I heard it is pretty simple.
Zti you have inspired me to try this streaming myself. Considering we will have two rooms which I think we will, I might try to run a stream in one of the rooms myself. I’m getting off work so I have about 5 hours to make this work.
Ya thanks, been waiting 2 weeks for the thing to come in (b/c of retarded online stores that don’t know that the hell their doing) so I’m very happy that it finally arrived. I have a friend who puts up some videos with one of these and it looks so much easier to record with than with my pos camera. He showed me its pretty easy to put live commentary so its not a problem for youtube although for streaming it seems I don’t quite have the right equipment so I’ll do without it.
Kool. We’ll just have to convince sal to put us in seperate rooms tonight if he doesn’t get to read this right now.
Hopefully I can get my son down in the next 30 minutes so I can try this. If not then definitely for the next event I will be ready to do this.
well its not the greatest quality but I think I got my stream working.
any help to improve quality would be appreciated.
