Just wanted to say these are the best videos for late-beginners I’ve seen. These kind of concrete, non-combo vis tactics are exactly what I feel like I need.
Ponder doing something at the same level for the various chars – What I mean is like longer guides focused on playing on char, with the same skill level in mind.
A+, the frame trapping to punish was eye opening for me. I’ve heard of people talk about it all the time, but I didn’t know a way to actually practice it until you showed me. Thanks!
the videos were very helpful, please make more. Is there anything you can do in training mode to improve defense against? maybe frame traps? cross ups? overheads/lows…etc etc.
Hey im new to the site but these vids are pretty kewl. Im returning to sf so i dont really get the meta quite yet but i did have a question and maybe you can make a vid on it. (srry if its a newbie question). How do i deal with grabs? They are fast on start up so teching on reaction is impossible. I dont get the meta yet so empty jump grab works almost too well on me. When i try to counter them it just grabs me out of whatever i do.i mostly play nrs fighting games so i can deal with those. Im getting molly whopped by grabs in this game
Great tutorials. I’d be interested in one about escaping rushdown/corner pressure. I play against the CPU and intentionally back myself into a corner to practice and find that everything I try to throw out to escape is just countered and followed up with more combos. A few other people have echoed this experience.
Thanks! These tutorials are what I need. My general problems are dealing with pressure and opening people up. It feels like I don’t know when to press a button. I’ll think “Is this guy’s turn over?” and try to press a button to punish them for something that I block and eat a few jabs for my troubles.
Ewww you spelled cool “kewl” lol. But here’s some advice on defending against grabs. You have the right idea sorta. It is impossible to tech a throw on reaction. You have to do it based on prediction. A general rule of thumb for this is to go for a tech throw when your foe is in your face. So if they do an empty jump and land in your face, go for a throw. They dash in and they’re in your face go for a throw etc. And if you opponent is feeling grab happy. That’s because they don’t respect your space and aren’t afraid to just charge in and do it. You have to give them a reason to respect your space by improving your footsies game.
Also you have to pay attention to when your foe likes to grab. Some grab often, some occassionally and some rarely. After you eat a throw. Take note of when they decided to go for that throw. So there for when that situation comes up again, you’ll know they’re likely going for a throw and you should tech it.
I cant help it. Lol kewl is so kewl. Thanks man. This helps alot. Im getting better at teching cause i play a guy who only grabs it just annoying when i try and meaty and i get grabbed. But playing with a lil more distance next time makes sense. Thanks again
