Akuma isn’t into bear hugs. Gief wins that MU, so it is not surprising that Kichipa has been steamrolling Tokido lately.

Akuma got a hurtbox nerf on regular fireball last patch, Gief can now lariat him from 40 miles away, that’s strike one.

And you know how the really strong aspects of Akumas kit currently revolve around stmk xx red fireball for safe grounded poke into knockdowns? Lariat beats that on block at any block depth, and it’s a one button response so it’s very difficult to mess up. Likewise for st.mk xx EX.Red. So Akuma is forced to walk up more often, and then Gief can say hahahahaha and st.mp/LP.SPD him a lil.

Lariat also shuts down air fireball and demon flip, so VT1 gets worse for Akuma.

And may all the gods help Akuma if he throws a fireball when Gief has VT1 ready to go.
Also, Gief’s damage and stun output make Akuma cry.

That too, lots of bad juju for Akuma. Akuma - Gief has traditionally been Gief favour. I don’t think Akuma has ever beat him.

You’re right I mixed them up. Looking through matches Du was the one throwing raw dash punches not strider. Like that game vs fuudo. So yeah switch that to strider the best G.

Does Red Flex come into play at all for this matchup or does the gief player usually rely on lariat, ex spd, etc.?

He can probably flex the red fireball out of st.mk into SPD also yeah. Flex can also eat up f.hp on reaction and then SPD.

Interesting. I remember in sf4 Zangief was pretty scary after certain knockdowns and it meant the Akuma player just had to be extremely patient.

Honestly, I kinda don’t see Ryu taking Gief on very well either.

I understand, based on the recent posts, that Akuma vs Gief is a bad MU for Mufasa, but is it so bad that Tokido would consider Ryu? WTF is one supposed to do with Ryu against Gief?

He goes even with Ryu, it’s not a 6-4 at least. If anything, you pick Bison.
