Tbh I think you can go wrong with XIII, if long combos isn’t your thing.

Nah. Just pick Big Bear and Goro.
Also, you can still win and do well with basic combos there. Game is beautiful, sugar, spice and everything nice.

Dunno, there are characters that don’t have long, complicated combos, but you still kinda need them with the vast majority of the cast. Even King and Kim should have their HD confirms down.
Of course if you’re playing with people who can’t do HD combos (which was the case with me and a few buddies back in… 2013?) everything will be fine. But you’re pretty dead to people with actual HD combos in this case.

@dracu I would actually suggest starting with XIV, it’s got most of the standard mechanics and it’s a little simpler execution wise.
XIII is one of the most beautiful things ever graphics wise, but balance is iffy and the roster is lackluster.
'98 is a great game period.
2k2 is where you want to end after getting familiar with the series. The roster covers pretty much everything, and is fun as hell to play.
Just expect to spend a lot of time in training mode if you want to pull off the best stuff.
Note that I mean 2K2 Unlimited Match.
The original 2k2, while fun, is incredibly broken.

The brokenness is what made it.
While being able to do a 100 to 0 inexpensive combo because you are hitting a character in the back can be fun to do, it’s not fun to receive and honestly there is a limit to how many time I can spam beyond frames into shelter from storm without feeling bored
I am actually assuming that Bea is jaded by og 2k2 because of the broken bs it had and never played UM.
If she were to mean UM it would mean she is a filthy Scrub and a shame for the entire South American continent and she should be stoned then deported to a joyless place where she can rot, something like Siberia… Or Cleveland.

UM makes 2k2 palatable. Still inferior to 98 and XIII. But palatable.
OG 2k2 is terrible with awful ugly looking stage, weird weight on hits, strange control feel and the worst of all, HAD NO KING, but had Tetsu from Akira for whatever reason.
OG 2k2 just isn’t worse than 2k3.
OG 2k2 is just so damn wrong that I preferred Neowave over it back then. It was THAT bad.
So your shit taste expands to more than just playing SFV, I see.
98 does not have Angel, therefore is inferior to 2002UM, case closed.

Ya know I meet at a Convention some years ago a group that Cosplayed as the 4 leadgirls of Senran Kagura, they looked awesome.
They even let me guess who of the 4 had had their boobs pushed up to the right size, the other 3 were real (even tho they weren’t as big as the real ones, but they were still pretty sizeable).
So I guessed and it was wrong. The Yumi was faked the others weren’t. She was the only of the 4 with a B Cup, the others had natural Cs and one D.
I still have the photo on the wall, with my stupid grin sitting behind them and they in front of me.
