I’m still trying learn the character myself (Gill). Although I do think he’s a strong character i just don’t know wtf he’s gonna do with matchups like Karin or even Gief.
They should have given Gill a command grab

The more I watch Gill the more his success seems directly tied to how many times he lands c.HP in a match. Which means his parry and AA game have to be on point.

They hate the US competitive smash scene and the fact they keep calling it a fighting game.
But since the smash scene exist to cry at people, they don’t make any headway with Nintendo.

That’s exactly my thoughts. I think he’s bottom tier. He “technically” has good everything outside of a reversal but nothing that actually enforces his will on a game. Every time I see a Gill play, no matter the player, they have to work SO much harder than anyone else to actually win. Even his “robbery” modes require him to actually hit the opponent first.
You pretty much have to be in the opponent’s head with VS2 to really run away with a game, otherwise you’re just playing a character with an okay zoning game, an okay poking game, and an okay throw game and an okay defense. Even the other so called “bad” characters in the game have at least some gas to them, Gill doesn’t. He’s not bad in the sense of having really bad tools. To me he’s bad in the sense of how Elena is bad in 3S. There’s no reason to pick him over a bunch of other characters.

I’ve been playing him/against him with my brother and I honestly feel the same way… to me it’s like, as long as I guess right on blocking and teching, he seems to be a non issue. His blockstrings seem so “obvious” for lack of a better word for some reason imo.
I feel like characters like Juri, Ryu and now Gill have this weird void in their gameplay in which while they do have positive things (Juri’s mobility, Ryu’s damage, Gill’s retribution and such), it feels like if you know how to block/tech properly enough they don’t have much to threaten with. I guess Nash can be thrown in as well.

Alright, turns out I can do beginner shit with like, 1/4 of the cast.
Need to add more to that.
People keep on saying Gills parry is a gamechanger as it blows up a lot of common frame traps.
It seems good (dunno about changing the game though) and his combos look fun but other than that Urien just seems easier to get wins with.

Just got done playing hella sets with a homie. He plays Urien. Tried to play Gill the same way he plays Urien…you know that lol yolo hit buttons thing.
Gill is just not that type of character. You aren’t gonna bullshit your way through the game with a lucky st.hp and v-trigger carries. It may be possible, but it seems, or at least it feels like Gill is going to help you set up really dangerous obvious situations. Once he activates v-trigger, you get the big ass combos. It also means that all his shimmy situations deal exponentially more damage.
Think that’s the type of stuff Gill is gonna do for you. Let you set up and do big brain things.
