SF4 Standard Edition FightStick - Problem / Defect Thread

I hope its not the main PCB. That would absolutely blow for people that’s dropping $70-$80 on it plus the possible $50 to mod it, and have the main PCB be spotty. I’d be pissed as hell if that happens.

welcome to my world

Hey folks, just wanted to check in and say I’ve just just received the FedEx confirmation of my repaired sticks. Pretty quick turnaround, I dropped it off at FedEx on Thursday, they received Friday, and they’re now on a truck as of 5:00pm Monday.

I’m in Los Angeles, CA-- FYI. Will report back with how well the stick works tomorrow evening/Wednesday morning!

Well, I had high hopes, but after receiving the stick and finding that:
a) the start button doesn’t work when connected to the 360 (but bizzarely works fine when plugged into my mac.)
b) I can feel the softness/stickiness/rubbing when pressing to the left,

I have just requested a refund from Amazon and am sending it back tomorrow.

I found a Hori EX2 on ebay for 80, which is only 10 more. I can live with that.

Good luck to everyone.

My directions started sticking yesterday so I decided to open it up and glue the washer. There was a lot of lube around the whole area, and under the washer (well I assume it was lube… I sure as hell hope it wasn’t supposed to be glue!) which I had to clean out of the groove before gluing. I noticed that the washer does not fit flush into the groove, and sticks up by up to about 0.5mm along one side, but it doesn’t seem to affect the stick’s freedom of movement.

I also had a look inside my quiet microswitch and it seems fine, so I can’t figure out why it’s quiet and it’s still a little disconcerting.

The usb cable on the PS3 version passes and is soldered very close to the bottom clip for the restrictor plate so I had to be careful not to break the solder points because the hot glue had missed them completely, which made it a pain to get that clip off because it needs a lot of force.

I also stuck pieces of electricians tape over the worn traces, just in case my two-for-a-pound superglue doesn’t hold.

Roll on payday so I can replace that shit.

Anyone else notice that the case doesn’t want to stay square once the bottom plate comes off? It was pretty difficult to get it back on properly without resorting to levering the plastic edges. The stick really doesn’t feel as solid anymore now I’ve had it apart and seen how flimsy it really is. Saying that, the top panel is the most important part, and that’s solid as a rock.

I know, that’s my feelings as well. That problem with my top row of buttons failing has only happened twice in about 25hours of use. Hopefully it was fluke…

Hopefully it’s not the main PCB but the actual buttons if its not a fluke. Then you could just replace them.

I got mine in yesterday and when I opened it up, sure enough, the washer was loose and already started grinding at the pcb. I just removed the washer all together and it works just fine.

I was wondering if anyone could answer a question of mine. I didn’t want to make a new thread for this.

I bought two of the SE Street Fighter IV sticks with the intention of modding them eventually. Now within the first 2 hours of using them the hard punch starts to go out and the left direction on the other one doesn’t work.

I have one of those tekken 5 sticks that were released here in the us. But the buttons on that one are all broken cause of an accident involving my little cousin and apple juice. But I know the stick still works. Is it possible for me to replace the Street Fighter IV joystick with the one in the Tekken stick? If so how much work would be involved… I guess what I mean is would I have to sand anything down or anything?

Consider me a noob when it comes to hardware.

Also if this is the wrong place, I am sorry! I search the forums for info and couldn’t find anything. :frowning:

So like an idiot it opened up my joystick and voided the warrenty after it started sticking so I decided to pop it open and try to make it work like it should.

Well I got everything apart and super glued the washer down so that it would not have the sticking problem that myself and so many other are experianing.

Well I am guessing I damaged either the connector that plugs into the PCB, or the PCB itself. It would not surprise me if it was the PCB that got damaged, because I really had to pry that clear plate off and the black switches got kinda beat up.

Here is the deal though, when I plugged the stick back into my xbox it would only move in two directions: right and down…so I took the stick back apart and messed around with it again and now the stick will only move in one direction, to the right.

Hopefully from that description someone can tell me what I actually damaged, and potentially how to fix it.

I really don’t want to have to go out and by another arcade stick because they are expensive and very hard to find, so if there is a fix out there please let me know.

Thank you.

My RMA’d FightStick is working as intended now. The stick is, of course, not a Sanwa-- but it gets the job done. I may end up voiding my warranty a little sooner and ordering those parts ASAP.

You’re SOL. You may have flexed the PCB causing the soldered joints to come loose. The only option now is to buy a replacement stick and drop it in and see if it works.

I would just RMA them, madcatz is sending out shipping labels to ship them back to them so I dont see why you would wanna frankenstein them.

So I bought 2 SE sticks…both stick on the joystick and one the triangle button is dead, should I send it to MadCatz or replace the buttons myself?

Anyone had experience with changing them out after they were dead on the stick?

I want to replace my buttons and stick later on anyway because I want them to be pink, but I want to know if I should get it worked on by MadCatz first…

If you’re planning on replacing everything anyway then don’t bother sending it to madcatz. You can try taking it back to the store and hope they give you a new one

I say call them to see if you can do anything without sending it in, it might just be a simple quick connect loose. If the buttons are all working I would swap out the parts. You just want to be sure that the triangle button is not working because of a simple thing and not a major problem before you open up that case.

so the screws in my mounting plate were stripped and i just ended up drilling them out. now i need new screws. i need some details or w/e so i can go to home depot or something and buy new screws.

Kajiki,
Here is my SE in (epic fail) action. I’m thinking about just returning it to Amazon and getting my money back:

Gut that son of a worthless bitch, and put in some good parts.

Sanwa/Seimitsu parts from Akihabarashop or Lizardlick.

And a Cthulhu board from SRK Toodles.

And a Lami-label of some good art via Kinkos.

You’ll be set.

Because the box is kind of nice.

It’s kind of like an American girl that way.

i just mailed my SE stick to madcatz to get it fixed today. down wasn’t working after about 10 hours of play. anybody have a clue of how long ill have to wait for it to be back? also you think if i bitch and complain enough they will reimburse me at all? i mean i paid 80 bucks for a defective stick
