SF4 Standard Edition FightStick - Problem / Defect Thread

And now my short kicks don’t come out all the time. So that’s 2 out of 8 buttons. And this is coming from a stick that doesn’t have the washer problem. Now I can’t even play online, because Bison without weak Scissors or focus attacks might as well stay home. The best I can do is do the trial challenges until my Sanwas come in…in 2 fucking weeks.

Good going, Mad Catz. I knew this thing wasn’t going to be top of the line but I at least expected it to work.

Here is my PCB…wheeeee…i think im going to just trash the washer and use it without it…i’ll report feedback up until my jlf gets here.

Yeah the switches or something are a bit iffy. Looking at the controller in my Game Controllers box on the PC, whenever I press down-back (facing left) to block sometimes I get just back or just down, and not the corner. I fixed mine and everything but maybe I didn’t fix it fast enough? Either way, Sanwa stick is going into mine as soon as I can afford one.

EDIT: My PCB isn’t scratched up at all, so maybe its the microswitches? sigh But the “corner” problem only happens 10 maybe 15% of the time. I can live with it until I get a better stick. Buttons so far are phenomenal though.

If it’s just 2 buttons, switch them out with the two black ones you aren’t using. It may look bad but at least it works

My thing is, I don’t know why they’re not working. My first guess is that the quick disconnects came loose or something…I’m not very techy so I don’t know anything about PCBs or anything but I wanted to give the Mad Catz people a call before I popped this thing open in case I need to get it replaced or something.

anyone have trouble removing the quick disconnects??

use a flat screwdriver …

so i tried taking the screws off the mounting plate and the screws are stripped. how do i get them out?? any advice here?

If your screwdriver still fits in the notch’s but the screw just spins and spins, try putting another screwdriver at the opposite end and “push” while you twist. This is how i got my mounting plate off. If the screw head is stripped you will either have to drill it out, buy a new stick and mounting plate or cut a notch in the screw and use a flathead screwdriver. You can use a dremel tool and a grinding bit to make the notch in the screw. I hope this helps

Mine seemed to quit on ultras. It wont let me do Super or Ultra combos, for instance, as Ryu, it will only do EX shoryukens. Sometimes, it will do a hadouken followed by a super combo hadouken even though I did not enter any commands. I guess it is back to the old reliable Xbox 360 controller…

Lol i don’t think you should open it if you carn’t tell the difference between a printed circuit board and a washer.

man i bought one of these shit boxes today and into my 3rd match the up isnt registering. luckily i was intending on modding the stick regardless.

We ran out and bought two SE sticks, knowing full well they broke pretty much the entire time. We already had Sanwa sticks in hand to modify them, but we expected the mounting plates to still be usable.

Anyway, stick one had a bent mounting plate (so, looking at it from the front, it always was crooked in neutral and looked something like \ _ _ _ with the slash being the stick in neutral and the underscores as the buttons), the classic washer issues and the PCB was pretty much dead within a little bit of playing with it. Also, it was impossible to get the screws holding the mounting plate to the stick’s black plastic ‘casing’ off, so our idea of driving my car over the mounting plate set under a thick wooden plank to try and get it to straighten out was never attempted. :frowning:

Second stick has a good mounting plate but the screws just won’t come off. So we’re waiting for shipments on a spare stick w/mounting plate, and a spare mounting plate.

All in all though, for a modder project, the stick is pretty goddamned nice. I love the wiring inside and the buttons are actually pretty fucking nice, they’re responsive and clicky, which I like. It’s just a real big shame about the stick, they shouldn’t have used a washer at all or just glued it down to begin with, and thought through the problem with the actual spring cap.

They had 2 of these sticks out for play at a Fry’s in Webster, TX and one was already broke. It wouldn’t even turn on when plugged in to the PS3 USB. :S

This stick is a terrible waste of money, avoid!

The box is pretty nice though, once you strip the art off.

Maybe Madcatz could go into the business of mass-producing bare-bones customizable boxes?

If they got rid of the turbo console, made the front have 3 holes for 24s, and dropped the price to $40, they’d have a place in that niche.

I picked one up from EBGames yesterday. I was surprised to see that they had some available. I opened it up tonight to try it and within an hour realized I have this problem. The store I bought from doesn’t have any more of these so I am not going to try exchanging. I guess I’ll try out the customer service line tomorrow. Has anyone in Canada had this issue resolved from calling the American customer service number?

Same thing happened to me. I ordered some Sanwa parts off the 'net, but from posts prior it seems like the buttons themselves may not be the source of the problem. I think I may have to send it into Madcatz to have them repair (or most likely break it further) it.

Seriously, Madcatz, what the hell is the deal here? First, I had a fightpad that intermittently worked, and now I have a stick that does the same? Good job upholding your rep, guys.

EDIT: So any word on how many months I could be stick-less once I send this in?

Anybody else having this problem as well or is it just me? Perhaps I need to practice more but that is all I have done for the last few days and I can do the ultras on a Xbox controller no problem…I hope the TE is easier for me than the SE…

my fightstick crapped out on me just today. my left d input does not work.
i read a few pages of this thread and if i read this correctly if i change my stick to a sanwa it would work perfectly.

i need to know if this is right before i buy the parts.

thnx
