SF4 Standard Edition FightStick - Problem / Defect Thread

lol i posted this earlier today. mine wore away in 1 day!!! i just put some sodder to fix the points as a temp fix till my jlf comes in.

Bought my SE stick yesterday and within 10 minutes my character was jumping none stop and i wasn’t even touching the stick. It was working amazing for about 2 hours and then all went to hell. It would start getting stuck more often and also the down/right inputs weren’t registering.

On top of that two out of the eight buttons stick. When pushed down they don’t come back up. I literally have to pull them back up. At first they felt sticky but now they don’t even come up.

I’m very disappointed in this stick. Especially because i’m not going to be able to get a replacement any time soon. grrrrrrrrrrr

The problem seems to be with the madcatz knock-off joystick. If you ordered a sanwa/seimitsu joystick you wont be effected by these issues. – Personally my buttons on my two sticks work fine, and all the diagonals register perfectly. Eventually i’ll be getting sanwa or seimitsu buttons and sticks for mine anyway.

got my se stick 3 days ago and i am very unsatisfied with their poor QC.

upon receving the unit, balltop was loose. I tried to hand tighten it but it get loose again after 5 minutes of use. I had to break the warranty and stick a flat head to the bottom of the joystick to tight it properly.

joystick was sticking in lower left hand corner alot , and very inaccurate. The bottons are fine, it just makes a lilttle more noise than i like.

edit: sorry my mistake on no headphone part, thats the xbox version. thx for correct me mark

yo. you bought the PS3 stick, and you think there is a headset port? You know the PS3 version (69.99) which you got, does NOT have one.

Also, this joystick issue was brought up last week with the factories and I hope to have an answer. Fear not, if you DID open it up, we will still take care of you. Just call our tech support line, check first page of sticky in this forum.

i had a similar problem with my new one on my 360

in the middle of an HDR online match, it stopped registering inputs from my (right trigger) roundhouse button (and only that button)

restarting the xbox and everything worked ok again

given that i only had the stick for a few hours, it was weird

now that i see it, it was the EXACT same issue as this post here only with the TE stick. . . could HDR have another glitch involving these sticks?

Can you confirm athis fixed it after more use?

Got mine today. It’s perfect (well perfect for stock).

For the “budget” stick I really like the feel of it especially compared to the EX2

I bought two SE sticks at Frys. One works fine (or seems to) but the other can’t read the up-left diagonal and it had two unresponsive buttons, A and either LB or LT. After just messing with it for a few minutes the buttons started working, but I couldn’t get the diagonal to respond in any game.

The stick doesn’t seem to have the same noticeable click as the functioning unit when I move it to the left. It reads left, but not up-left.

Thanks for the info! OK I see the exact problem your talking about, but one question. How do I get the shaft off of the base?

for all the joystick and button issues (mine currently stick down left), would swapping buttons and stick to sanwa or semitsu parts actually solve this problem or would some of the problem (such as button input issues) be based on connector problems?

Ok ErcsYou’s fix worked like a charm! I did exactly what he did, krazy glued the loose metal washer down to the base and filed the edges of the spring cap to make it a bit more round instead of a hard edge.

Been playing HDR for a couple of hours and the joystick is flawless now. Too bad it’s still being swapped out when I get my JLF =).

Overall I’m content with the SE now (though my stick hand barely has enough room for my palm) and I think Madcatz is on to something, BUT their QC needs some serious work.

I got my fightstick and the bottom-right wouldn’t register about half the time. Took it to a local game stop for replacement and new one works perfectly. From sounds of this thread i might be lucky this one works perfectly.

My PS3 SE fightstick had the problem with getting stuck going down and left as well, but after I used it more, it seems like it doesn’t happen anymore. Other than that, it works perfectly on my PS3. My one problem is that it doesn’t work consistently on my computer. Sometimes I plug it in and it works, but a vast majority of the time, it won’t register inputs. I’d love to see some XP drivers for it to get it to work properly.

Wasn’t Mad Catz supposed to be delivering quality products this time? I was actually going to buy the standard edition stick but after reading this I guess I’ll have to get myself a Hori.

Har-har. For each person here on this forum there are hundreds of clueless Walmart shoppers who don’t expect quality. They stand to make way more money continuing to sell cheap shit to Walmart rather than slowing down their production and hiring QC staff. I mean really, how many of those guys are going to even bother trying to RMA? Or even know they can RMA? 1:100? 1:1000? 1:10,000? This is typical Capitalist conceit; thinking of the almighty dollar over all else.

I remember laughing when I read that line initially. Oh so now you care about quality… and before? Producing a quality product didn’t matter to you then at all and now mysteriously you have a conscience? WTF? Did Jiminy Cricket come and do a fucking dance at the last board meeting?

If you start to greedin for corporate profits, give a little whistle. Give a little whistle.

Ok good to hear this. I’m getting my SE next week and from all I’m hearing here it doesn’t look promosing. But I was going to replace the stick and buttons with Sanwa anyway since I couldn’t get the TE version until March.

Anyone experience other problems that might not be related to stick/buttons or is that even possible, as in defective PCBs?

weird

i only have the demo of HDR

and it happened to me too

i really hope its something to do with HDR and not the stick itself:sad:

Copypasta’d from another forum I post on:

-slight two-inch straight scratch on artwork. Not visible unless it’s in direct sunlight, but still - neither of my Hori’s had one. Hori’s are wrapped in plastic from the factory, but this one came naked and inserted directly in the styrofoam.

-turbo button text is turned about five degrees

-LS and RS settings don’t register in Windows (i.e., no Touhou games without Joy2Key or equivalent)

Otherwise it’s fine. Will probably keep it.

Well for every person who posts a problem on this forum, I’m sure there are plenty who do expect quality, and got a stick in perfectly good working order. Myself included.
