Anyone have vids that show someone laying the smack down on Vega? I got owned 3 games to 1 recently and realized I hardly ever play against that character.
You could do what I do and write it off as you’ll never come across a Vega in a tournament who’ll do very well
Yeah, but it usually is people who are extremely talented with him that I find myself against. If there is ever some noob playing him, of course it’s a clean up game for me. Certain people are on another level, though, and this guy was one of them.
Friend me next time you are on and never let me go, Kuma. I swear I’ve gotten better since last time we played.
Daigo vs Reiketsu (3 games set):

Low quality, but you can pick a lot of useful stuff from it.
Thanks, man. Wow, to be honest, that Vega was pretty horrible. Daigo fear aside, he could have done much more to stuff a lot of Ryu’s moves.
I dont really play people on SRK anymore Yerffejk. We haven’t played in ages anyways. I would imagine you have gotten better. I’m not really playing Ryu anymore so I wouldn’t really be able to help you with yours (if you’re still using him) I dropped him for Akuma, and it’s proving to be a difficult road. I’d say as of now both of them are worse than I was say like 2 weeks ago when I was only using Ryu.
I played Shin Arnolo yesterday and he fuckin wrecked my Akuma and my (albeit rusty) Ryu. Outclassed indefinitely. I dunno man, people have some how gotten this idea in their head that I’m a good player and it puts too much pressure on ME to perform and I end up playing worse and getting frustrated cause I’m not doing well and playing even shittier. Besides I really have all the practice I could ask for out here. I’m honestly not that good, I’m okay for sure but I have lots and lots of holes in my game I am hashing out and I really shouldn’t be used as a measuring stick for anyone yet. I’m just determined to play as much as I can to get better. I do have a lot of good players here and two arcades, both within a 30min drive of my place so I’ll be spending time there as much as possible.
I’ll say this much though, spending time with Akuma has destroyed my Ryu, he’s even worse than before now! LOL
for vega you can FA his wall dive, usually your best bet is just back dash after you SA because vega players try to cross up. and keep pressure on his ass much as you can. cross up deep to stuff his flip kick. you can DP his “vega roll” lol, throw a lot as well.
Thanks, I didn’t think I could go deep enough to stop that damn flip. I’ll try it out next time I get the chance.

Dude, for one, I just browse and occasionally post here at SRK. I’m nothing special. I’m not looking for someone to teach me anything either. I learn from the fights. If you are doing the Akuma thing now, let me have it. I don’t play enough of those. For two, if you get blown out of the water, so what? You’re learning. I don’t hold losses or wins over anyone’s head.
I just remember you were good, and wanted another sparring partner on my list. Can never have too many. I dink around with Akuma as well, and he really does throw off your Ryu game if you aren’t careful.
If you don’t wanna do the PSN thing, that’s fine. I might be boring anyway, as I don’t use a mic anymore when playing. I need to concentrate and it throws off my game.
You just have to get used to using both, although they are both shotos so it should be pretty easy. You probably just haven’t used Ryu in a while. When I first switched to Viper I didn’t touch Ryu for weeks and when I came back to him I forgot how to use him, but now I make sure to give some priority to my Ryu so that I can keep advancing both my Viper and Ryu at the same time. So now what I’ll do is basically divide time between them. So I divide up my training mode, video watching, and playing with people so that Viper and Ryu both get all of those things on a regular basis. It’s not even though, probably like 80% Viper and 20% Ryu, but that’s enough for me to keep my Ryu sharp and to keep improving him.
I won’t really be using Ryu except for fun here and there. Akuma is gunna be the one I go with. But I’ve been having a real hard time adjusting and choke when I’m looking for combos and hit confirms. Really hesitant in footsies and mix ups too even though I have a bunch of cool set ups. It’ll come but right now I feel super weak with Akuma in general. It’s like, ya know after a while with Ryu you just know what to do when you hit a guy with this, or with that, it’s natural… it feels blocky with Akuma right now. I have to think too much about what to do and it makes me predictable and I drop a lot of free damage and mix up opportunities like that not just knowing how to follow up. I spent a lot of time the last few days at the arcades with some of the top players here so I’m getting a lot of time to try things out. It’ll come…
not a problem, you can JLK as well because of the wider hit box. and tick throw often. if u have a chance to land a clp clp fr srk do it. vegas health isnt a lot. specially when he loses his mask.
Yeah I feels ya. It’s always like that when learning a new character. You might know what to do in a certain situation, but the move just doesn’t come out because you get caught sitting there thinking about what you should do. It was like that also when I switched to Viper, and still like that when I mess around with other characters, but of course it will come soon. Akuma is really fun though! Good pick!
But then doesn’t Akuma have the option to go into the dive kick after the demon flip?, which in most cases stuff shoryukens…
Vs. Rose:
Ryu S. Strong beats her st. fierce and her standing roundhouse, and Ryu c.forward beats or whiff punishes her other footsie tools, but can lose to Rose s. roundhouse (has crushing frames and good range). So tool vs. tool your footsie game is slightly better, however she has faster walking speed and a larger amount of decent pokes (good dash as well). If you get tagged with anything that doesn’t KND during footsies just block, since it’s easy to get tagged by a bunch of followup normals and you can see yourself losing a good chunk to that. You can ocassionally try and stand just outside her max slide range and try and whiff punish that, if you block it look out for a possible throw attempt after. Her c. fierce is a really strong anti-air and it’s easy and reliable, it’s lacking in range though so a good little trick is to go for jump-ins just outside it’s range and see if the Rose commits.
At a distance get into your standard fireball game, but she can absorb some if she predicts the speed (depending on how close she is since “absorb” has some startup) and she can also reflect fireballs, so just keep that in the back of your mind since it’s an option you won’t see very often but can happen nevertheless. She also has her own fireball as well, which while no where near as good as Ryu’s, can be used to help her stall along with neutral jumps, and absorb/reflect.
When she has Ultra she can actually use it to go through any close range fireball attempts, so don’t throw too many from that range (you should just be trying to outfootsie her anyway) and of course it’s a good AA so be weary. You can use Tatsu/EX Tatsu in the air to try and goad her into using her Ultra though, but if she doesn’t go for it you might eat some stuff on the ground. Don’t focus during footsies either, since that CAN be a free ultra.
Rose is pretty weak on her wakeup, so if you get a KND follow it through. Any Ryu player knows that he has plenty of options, so make sure to use whichever is appropriate and keep the pressure on.
Overall the best bet is to get the lead first and take your time making her come to you. Rose will probably try and do the same thing, especially later on when she can fall back on her Ultra which has a couple of decent applications. Rose isn’t free at all though, so you should definately keep your eyes open during this matchup and play patiently.
6/4 Ryu
Hey guys i’m a pretty scrubby ryu and i’m having trouble with the chun match up. If you expect chun to jump on wake up, what is the best option for a ryu to do? her roundhouse in the air is a pain.
Hit her with a meaty c.lk and you’ll catch her in her jumping frames. Daigo used to use a close standing roundhouse on opponents he expected to jump, but I don’t really see that much anymore.
Yeah my biggest worry right now with Akuma is I’m dropping free damage. Like I cross up, cLK, cLP… freeze. I wanna use SRK but if whiffs unless I use EX and sometimes cMP, Hadoken wont hit afterwards if you dont cancel it right away (Akuma’s fireball is shit compared to Ryu’s, the normal purple one at least) So anywho, I’ve been using cLK, cLP, cLK, Tatsu, SRK if they are standing and eat the cross up, cLK, cLP, EX SRK if they are crouching and cLK, cLP, cMP, Hadoken or cLK, cLP, cLP, cMK, Hadoken when they’re blocking it regardless of their height. You can also mix up into demon flip from there. It’s really working out the kinks. It’s not that I hate my Akuma or think he’s super duper bad but I miss things I wouldn’t with Ryu and you cant afford that with Akuma since he has lower health and all.
Yeah you’ll get it though. What I do personally, and you probably do too. Is I’ll concentrate on just one thing that I want to work on with combos for a couple matches. Like with Viper she obviously has super fat combos but often I would punish say a blocked srk with cr mp xx mp tk which is an ok combo but she has much better ones. That one does 180 dmg and she can get 400 from a midscreen ground combo. So I went like 10 matches or so and the only thing I thought was to punish at every possible chance with cr hp xx ex seismo, air bk or mp tk. If you do that for like 2 or 3 days it becomes instinct and you never have to think about it again really. Same with Ryu I would punish things with cr mk xx hado where I could have done cr hp xxx srk or sps, srk. So I did the same for him for a few days and now if I can get cr hp xx srk I usually don’t miss the chance. I also did that for Viper’s ultra. I wasn’t used to using it too often as punishment because I was used to using Ryu who’s ultra isn’t quite as useful as Viper’s for punishing whiffed attacks. So now I finally got to the point where I can punish a Ryu lp srk on reaction with her ultra.
So yeah that was a big post for something simple that you probably already do, but I thought I’d put it out there in case it might help someone.
nah free DP usually. unless its like in right in the angle it will stuff it. personally i have never been stuffed yet by his DF kick.
i just realized there is no ryu vs ryu matchup info hahahhahaha.
