I think if you take away the underwear/nude mods, it’s probably about 50-50, maybe even more male characters getting modded.

I suppose this is a new way to plot character popularity. Instead of looking at the number of threads on here, or match vids, you might say that more mods = a popular character (rather than an effective/top tier character, or course)

Maybe this will even change the % of each character you face online… This can only be a good thing.

Vega, Oro, Rolento, Charlie, Birdie, Haggar, Hugo, Zangief, Necro and Sodom all have problems of detail. And almost all characters have problems of which foot forward in their stance. Think about it, if somebody is left-foot forward, then they should have their back to the player when on the 2P side (as happens in SFEX). And you probably wouldn’t DP with your left hand half of the time…

Actually, even Rose and the shotos have problems of which side the bottons/tuck-in go. So every character is affected when you use sprites. Luckily those days are over now.

I think I’ll be doing a few more of these missing colors for SF4. The first one that comes to mind is O.Ken’s alternate color, which is fuchsia. Guile and Ryu could use a few more vibrant options as well.

Shame the Vampirella Rose is an all or nothing mod. Either you have that Rose and no others, or that one doesn’t work.

Female characters are always slightly more popular, I think. Mainly because it’s probably easier to do things with their flowing clothes and such (look at transparency and just flat out ripping skirts out and stuff), as opposed to males where you can take off shoulder pads or something small. I think there’s a lot more potential with the females (right now, at least).

And the Manhattan skin looks great.

We’ll see about that…never been a Sean fan, but he might inspire some cool color combinations for the shotos.
I think some characters are missing some classic colors, so I’ll work on those.

As for doing transparency, a lot of the info is sprinkled around in this thread:

mostly just in the last couple of pages. I’ll give you a quick rundown, though:

It’s basically a 2-part process: editing the .dds textures and then hex-editing the .col.emz file.

For the first part, most (all?) of the textures (represented by the .dds files) contain what is called an ‘alpha’ channel, which is used for transparency. Transparency is represented by the black and gray checker pattern that you’ve probably come across while erasing things in the .dds files. So, just edit the file in Photoshop or GIMP with whatever areas erased that you want semi- or fully transparent, save as you would any .dds texture (DXT5, create mipmaps, etc) and infuse the texture back into the .dat file and rename it to *.col.emz.

I got it working but I am unable to save because I get the error: “too many channels to export(5)”. I’ve googled around and tried flattening the layers but then I lose my transparency. Also tried saving as a .gif or .tif and resaving in .dds but that also doesn’t work. Any suggestions? Someone said that I get that error because there is transparency in the bottom layer but how would i make certain parts of the image transparent without having some deleted areas on the bottom layer?

Flatten all your layers.

WAIT A MINUTE… Did you say saving in gif or tif? Just save it in PNG or BMP 24bbp. That way the original channels are left. If you want trans go with Snoopee’s tut and use alpha transparency not physical transparency like what you get with gif files. The game will do the rest. (correctly if I’m wrong about how I’m reading it.)

You should only have 4 channels. you probably added an extra alpha channel in.
