SF4 Game Mechanics: Option-Selects

It’s already stickiedto some degree. When it’s complete i’ll probably put together a summary and put it in the Newbie forum where it might get stickied.

Just saying, excellent article… Not trying to step on peoples toes, lol…

Awesome stuff

I still have a problem understanding armour cancels. Its an execution thing, not the concept itself.

Do you do: hold back, front, back + LK+MK, (hold back) [ex RU] , front, back, front + PPP [Ultra]?

well, the input i’ve been really successful with is:
:b:,:f:,:b:+:2k:,:3k: and drumming kicks. think of it this way, you’re pressing 3P/3K moments after pressing 2K, you might have better luck armor cancelling dan’s focus attack into his super taunt to get the timing down. You can buffer it in like: :qcf:,:qcf:, :mp:+:mk:, :hp:+:hk:

The button input has to be really close together. I think Vesper arcade has a video about armor cancelling and they show how to do it using negative edge, but I haven’t watched it in a while so don’t quote me on that one.

i want to pay someone to suck your dick

this is good shit

didn’t know the link to the video 1 was broken, fixed. Shoutouts to Knobbonk!

Not sure if this counts as an option select but I found something that might be usefull against crouching oponents. It’s like an option select headbutt on crouchers.

Charge :d: , :b: + :lk: , :u: :lp:

The key is to do it all in one fluid motion as though you were doing just a normal headbutt
If the opponent continues to crouch and block the :lk: will whiff and the :lp: will come out and put them into block stun. But if they do something stupid then the :lk: should connect on counter hit and the headbut will come out. Should be a safe way to try land ultra.

Yes it is an O/S, but if I read it correctly, there are safer, more efficient ways to get a similar effect, especially w/o the risk involved with cancelling cr.lk into headbutt if your opponent walks up and blocks. Not only do you need to sit completely still to do it, your opponent is free to move if I’m correct in assume that you’re using it simliar to the cr.mk/st.mk O/S super.

A safer O/S is meaty cr.mk O/S ex.hb (e.g. fwd.throw, TAP, meaty cr.mk [ex.hb]). It’s possible but difficult. An easier, more fluid one is, a blockstring like cr.lp, cr.lp, max distance st.lp, then cr.mp O/S lp.ds. Thus if your opponent presses a button after the st.lp that puts them at range for cr.mp, you get a CH with a buffered dash punch which you can cancel into super etc.
