SF IV GameStop results Round 1, 2, and 3

Anyone have more results for the SF stores?

gs lied. said we re gunna play on da infamous ‘fightpad’ but instead got stuck with worn out 360 controllers… bo0o0o.

I got results from the two Davis GameStops.

Jack (Jack/Steve) and Alex (zeroschneider) qualified at the U-Mall GameStop. I don’t recall if their “final” was a money match or not, but Jack won anyways. Also, allegedly this GameStop didn’t receive the qualification certificates, so both of them got business cards with contact numbers to confirm their qualifying status instead.

David (Sleazoid) and Tanaka (I don’t know his SRK name, but I think you know him anyways, Tyram) took the Marketplace GameStop. I learned that no unlocked characters + using controllers = instafail for me.

Our field of… 14 or 16, I know it was even… was somewhat diverse. I mean, there were your usual Ryu/Ken players, but no Gief players. Tanaka actually used Sagat over his standard Ryu, and after the first round, Walter moved from his usual Vega to Balrog. We had one Blanka mirror match (somewhat epic) and two Viper players (Dennis’s female friend-- not gf-- and me), though I knew I was screwed when it came to using the pads.

There was some decent organization for the tourney. Before a couple of late entries showed up, Dennis actually won the draw for a bye, but that went out the window. No refreshments were provided, though after I lost, I made my originally intended Safeway run to stock up on those $1 cake slices.

It was a good learning experience for me (though I’ll probably swear never to use a controller for IV ever again) and a decent showing overall.

Bob 2 be - Fresno

was alright, not that much comp but still some people with basic knowledge of the game

Yeah right.

All of us from Davis are to go to Sac for the next round… the Gamestop on Northgate Blvd. We might see you there Tyram

yup thats the one I have to go to. See you guys there!

-RAM

so i guess no sticks allowed?

i heard from a friend that you couldn’t even change your configuration keys. was that really part of the rule? that full of bs.

I won at the northgate gamestop in Sacramento. Some other guy also won as well, but I forgot his name.

everyone used either ryu or ken; the majority of games were pure offense and its like nobody blocked at all… at least from what I noticed.

I think I’m gonna lose round two, because of the controllers, I was using the analog stick the whole time; because the dpad is pure garbage.

booo! If i knew it was today i woulda won a fresno store bah!

Won the Hayward Southland Gamestop tournament, Funcoland division. There was another tournament right inside the same Funcoland but it was for the smaller Gamestop across the mall. Got a headband, arm bands, and the gift card. Pad really sucks man, its really hard to do Ultras, and it costed me a Chun Li figurine :frowning:

Shoutout to Dr. B though, was fun playing you in the Finals and it was a great experience to finally play you. GGs!

Also thanks to all my friends and those that cheered on and kept the hype up! Can’t wait for Round 2. Chabot College represent!

The guys who won at Davis better be happy that I was asleep when they were playing ;_;.

I won the Redwood City Gamestop. first dude I played actually knew what he was doing with Balrog but he wasn’t used to the controller. After that it was all Ken and Sagat, easy win. I just got the headband and junk, no extra prizes, snacks or anything

Anyone around 650 want to practice for Round 2?

i lost count how many times people paused on accident and to scrach there nose and yet still NO DQ!!! Only 1 warning but they still did it and they would let it go!

CPSIV qualified out of Fremont with Crizzle

Jason Nelson, Chris Campbell, koogy, D.Lewis, Warren and another person I don’t know won in Reno, NV and Sparks, NV.

At which GameStop, Sean?

I mean, we all kinda figured Jack would clean house at whichever one he went to (and un/fortunately, he went to the one most of us Cave regulars didn’t go to), and maybe Tanaka might’ve had it easy where he went to if he was allowed to go stick so he could FADC at will. So would you have challenged David for his spot or Alex?

Also, it wasn’t entirely your fault. If we’re to blame anyone, blame Phi Beta Sigma for its failure of a tournament.

I won the one at Arden mall in Sacramento…but I kinda felt bad for winning, there were only 7 guys that showed up and really only me and another guy (the runner up) actually knew what we were doing. It was pretty bad…for one, the controllers were beat the hell up, I couldn’t even crouch block on one of them, and the other controller kept randomly pausing. Also, the demo station had swapped controller positions, so the controller on the left was player 2 and the controller on the right is player 1, and I got marked as a loss until it was cleared up.

I don’t usually come to SRK a lot, but on another site I frequent, someone there said there were a couple of MUGA guys that are going to the Northgate Gamestop to play in round 2, and that’s the one I’m going to, so I decided to check on SRK. It’s sounding pretty cool, with some MUGA guys there, I expect actual good playing instead of those random Kens in Round 1.

Elk Grove… Other guy who won used Blanka…

360 Pads suck… Default Layout sucks even more!

Tourny was run smooth.

Headband looks like it was made outta leftover Hulkamania shirts from the 80’s.

I won a bracket at Gamestop on blossom hill rd across from oakridge mall
