Bigger corporations are running and producing ads with scantily clad women, objectifying them. Are you really going to say that sexism is unacceptable to these very same corporations?
SRK admins, you have a lot of work to do if you don’t want to be professionally associated with this type of infantile manchild bullshit. Hell, I might be giving you too much credit in even assuming you don’t.
Alright they have the right to zoom in on people at the event and most events usually issue a message at the beginning saying the property of the recording belongs to them.
The other thing is commenting on the competitors giving them special treatment due to being female is done all the time in mixed martial arts events and pro wrestling events. I have heard in mixed martial arts comments that fit your category and they have much better sponsors than even Evo.
The OP sounds like the true sexist because he most likely wants the womans tournament to have everyone in it be compared to Daigo and have the commentators saying that they all suck in comparison (if their skill warrants that).
Personally, as a female player, something that kind of held me back was knowing if I ever got really good, most of the attention I got wouldnt be about how good of a player I was. If someone thinks you’re hot, there’s not a lot stopping them from print screening you, posting it up on an imageboard, and getting more pictures of you leaked around the internet. That’s kind of lame. I plan on entering Evo next year, and I’d honestly just as soon Faust it up with a paper bag over my head when it was my turn to play.
Sexist comments, though, well… I dunno, I hear lots of racist jokes, lots of gay jokes, I don’t really think the sexist jokes and comments are that out of line. You have to roll with the punches, and it’s pretty easy to turn it on it’s head… You ever seen a cocky chauvanistic guy try to save face after a petite little girl reads him and tells him he sure knows how to take it like a woman? All’s fair.
Female only invitational is a stupid spectacle. Of course, I wasnt invited. What’s up with that! I still think it’s kind of a silly spectacle, like powderpuff football. I don’t really think it’s degrading, but this isnt a physical sport and skill matters more than any sort of physical strength or physique. Female only tournament is more for the men than the women. That’s my two cents.
Jesus this thread is dumb. Just being there, those women have allowed themselves to be filmed. Happens all the time at sporting events as mentioned and you don’t see assholes complaining there. As far as the women being uncomfortable? Fuck them. Anyone that gets put on that screen would feel uncomfortable at 4000+ looking at them. What makes them so special? Trying to be too protective of females is sexism in itself.
I’m gonna have to with HAV on this. I would have said it with a little more subtlety, but the point is there. Yeah, expanding the scene is all well and good, but it should not, under any circumstances, come at the cost of ourselves. Women in the scene? Awesome, but not when their mere presence forces everyone else to walk on eggshells and lose their identity because of it.
And the funny thing is, most of them understand that that’s the way it is, and don’t fault anyone for that. Usually, when someone bitches about sexism/harassment, it’s generally only a very small minority. Same thing with racist remarks, and pretty much everything that could be considered offensive. Christ, on a live stream the commentators said that I should represent my people and play Fuerte. Obvious racism, but did I care? No. Did anyone else? Again, no. Not trying to be racist/sexist in a reverse way, but unless its an egregious offense (Someone telling a black player to go back to picking cotton at the plantation, someone grabbing a chicks ass and making several unwanted advances), the only people who give a flying fuck about it are white males, in some kind of quest to prove that they themselves are not sexist/racist.
We don’t try to force ourselves onto you, so why must you force your ideals and beliefs onto us?
This whole thread is stupid. How many woman are actually offended at the fact that thousands of people think they are “pretty”. Woman dress scantily to draw the attention of men. The argument about the cameraman is null anyway. If it was a woman running the camera she could have just as easily looked at men. You know going to this event you could end up on camera.
If you don’t want to be filmed. Don’t go.
What argument could this possibly be making unless you’re genuinely concerned about both instances?
protip: that’s not the same thing.
if you have to walk on eggshells and lose your identity to be respectful to women you’re an idiot and probably shouldn’t be all that proud of what identity you happen to have.
I have to play devil’s advocate here and ask how you’d take it if you went to Evo, got on the stream, and you had a little fanclub of gay guys wanting to plug yer bum, and you then had to deal with general aggressive horny male stupidity.
This is intelligently put. There is no problem with woman playing video games.
The only part I dont agree with is, your decision to not play even if you are good. Use the fact that you are a woman to your advantage? Nothing gets a guy more nervous then a woman. (Or Guy.)
TBH. I wouldnt care. I know how the video game community is. Trash talk is trash talk. If they dont touch me, what is the problem? In fact, i would probably be flattered.
I want the OP to find me a prior case of a sporting event getting sued for zooming in on women at an event or for preferential treatment such as saying shes cute at one.
Freedom of speech, since the OP is complaining about stuff Keits said, why isn’t Seth’s comment on blast?
What was disrespectful exactly? Stopping the camera on a girl? All the sleeping people and fat people and cosplayers were disrespected too I suppose.
The comments about female players? Did you only listen during that portion of the stream and ignore the thousand of other things said that could be considered offensive?
How can you scream sexism for these things then ask for women to be treated above everyone else in the same breath?
