Very nice Seth play, but i have to say i lol’d hard when he tried to do…i don’t know what actually, when he dizzied chun. He did something similar with the boxer and i thought “why not just the FA lvl3, cr.HP?”
For the Guile fights: It’s (almost?) impossible to punish Guile’s boom on reaction, yet you kept trying and throwing away your ultra meter, considering how much jumping the guile player did you would have been better off to wait for a jump to punish.
While i also suck at punishing jumpins 9 times out of 10, i can still recognise it in myself and others, and you had so many opportunities here to use lp shoryuken>stomps. On the AA issue, why did you use SRK>FADC>stomps as an AA? You missed the stomps after FADC a lot, where as an AA a simple LP shoryu gives you the stomps for free and doesn’t cost you 2 bars.
As for the Gouken, you start of in round one wasting two bars again after you dizzy your opponent: FA lvl3, HPxxShoryuken>FADC>stomps?? how about FA lvl3, cr.HP, legs, stomps? Your FADC combo does 369 damage and costs 2 bars, the combo i wrote down does 386 damage while not costing any bars. Also use more HP boom. Whenever a Gouken player does a few hadoukens he will probably do a MP or HP one at some time, at full screen if you HP boom came out just a bit earlier than his HP or MP hadouken he will get hit by the boom, and you can buffer ultra and hit him with that if you see him get hit by the boom.
Last thing i’d like to point out is that Gouken could have low countered on almost all of his wakeups. I’m assuming though that if you hadn’t gotten away with it so often you would stop doing cr.LK on almost every single wakeup.
All in all very nice Seth play, and if i didn’t really really hate Seth mirrors (and the fact that you’re in USA and i’m in Europe so it would lag as hell) i’d invite you to play some matches =)
Like Novastorm said, you cannot Ultra Guile’s Sonic Boom’s on reaction; he recovers way too fast.
EDIT: So according to Kikuichimonji you can Ultra a lp Sonic Boom, but you need to be damn fast… good luck with that.
If want to catch a Guile Sonic Boom with Ultra you got to predict it, so being psychic is good, lol. Like Novastorm said, it might be better to save it for a jump in.
You did not anti-air Shoryu Guile in part 1, why? If you’re just gonna block jump ins then people are gonna keep doing it. You have to punish people for jumping in on you. You have an SRK, so use it. Maybe you were just warming up? Early lp Shoryu into stomps and dive kick, or triple hp Shoryu (this can be done later because it has more prority then the lp shoryuken)
That Guile kept doing his garbage crouching roundhouse because you didn’t punish it. If you block the first hit, you can Focus attack Guile after absorbing the second hit. What I like to do is use the dive kick because Guile is crouching for a long time when he does this move and you can combo after a dive kick on a crouching opponent. In some cases you can also neutral jump fierce > crouching strong/crouching forward > hyakuretsukyaku (lightning legs)
Again Novastorm mentioned this, but you should check out the combo thread and learn/practice Seth’s useful combos.
You seem to fall into patterns a lot! Seth is a mix up king, so mix it up! Examples include when you got a dive kick reset you always dash under and go for crouching lk combo, you should mix that up with Shoryu FADC, SPD, back teleport etc. Also don’t dash under evrytime. SPD is good against counter happy Gouken! Once Gouken started using his high counter when you were in the air you should have mixed in empty jump SPD and empty jump crouching lk into combo. You were very predictable on your block strings too, try ticking into SPD and doing a lp tandem engine after your crouching medium punch, none of these cost meter and allow you to stay on the offensive/keep applying pressure.
I like your Seth. You’re very sharp on the things you’re good at, but potentially you could be even better.
If you did the ultra while Guile is still in his start up animation (did not throw the sonic boom yet), you will hit him regardless if he was in full screen using lp. sonic boom (fastest recovery). This is on guessing.
on mid screen, you can punish Hp.sonic boom on reaction, and while it is difficult, it is possible to react to lp.sonic boom if you saw some pattern of throwing the sonic boom or if you have Daigo-like reactions.
Ex sonic boom have a lot of recovery, which helps ultra-ing timing needed. Ex sonic boom can be punished anywhere on the screen on reaction.
My ultra reactions on seth are very fast. I can take any fireball expect guile. But I can take his EX boom. Its probaly the online lag. But I save it as AA.
OnlineTony213 I see you use jump jab. Its weak but awesome move. I must use it more! It beats blanka ball, fei long burning kick and so on…
Against projectile chars I usually start buffering the ultra during downtime and that’s the easiest way to punish fireballers on reaction, even sonic boom. Have to avoid being obvious about it though; if the opponent sees you crouch/standing constantly they’ll know you’re buffering
Thats where seemingly random jabbing comes in…trying to work that into my game (slow process because there’s already so much else i’m trying to work into my game) but a jab gives you enough time to buffer at least one QCF =)
