now that was sick
…What? First of all it wasn’t my video so there’s no reason for me to be miffed~ Second, you came in to correct me? Where?
All I was telling the guy was that he could name it whatever he wants. Unblockables normally look like the sonic boom shenanigan he was using in his video so I thought it was valid to call it that since that’s how it looks (in 3rd Strike anyway -_-
Awesome shit dude.
This should go into the match up thread as “how NOT to fight rufus”
On the contrary, the simplicity of FilipinoChamp’s play style really is the smartest thing against Rufus. He could do a few things differently, but it honestly works.
Rawr! It was just a mistake on my part. I assumed you were the one that made the video. My bad. I just felt strongly about calling it an unblockable when it simply isn’t, especially in a tutorial. That much is understandable, right?
Again, sorry. Back to the videos. If you want we can take this to PMs.
The thing I’ve figured about the Rufus matchup is that you basically should almost never jump because of lucky j.hk -> ultra/EX Snake Strike. It’s all about fundamentals and footsies for Seth, which makes it a pretty alien matchup in terms of Seth play. I think FlipinoChamp did pretty good but he got away with stuff I can’t against Rufus, like j.hp and walljumps.
would calling it an ambiguous sonic boom crossup be better? I actually thought it was unblockable since everytime I use it people never know how to block it
i refer to it as boom trap when i talk about it IRL. shrug
the scariest thing rufus has – to me – is EX snake strike. it avoids lows and throws and BITES YOUR FACE OFF if you try to instant overhead. friggin sucks, because instant stomp -> j.hk easily works on rufus. he’s fun to rushdown but his reversals are really dangerous.
Video has been re released thanks to a few members help. I’m welcome to more criticism. Thanks again.

It’s nice you take the time out to make a video to help people, but I don’t think you should be using garbage combos (like that one against gouken) in such a video, if people are watching it to improve their seth game they may see combos like that and think they actually server a purpose, when really using them will only hurt their game.
Point taken, the reason why I added the non practical flashy stuff is I didn’t want to re use the same mix up follow up for all the different setups. Ill make comment on that the non practical stuff is not ideal to use in a real match. Thanks
Agreed. On a side note, I’m pretty positive this to be true, but I believe the safest option against Rufus’s wake-up is meaty cr.LK (Hit confirm to BnB). In the video is has plenty of examples as to Ex Messiah Kick hits Seth let times and doesn’t full connect. Allowing you to punish freely and not eating large amounts of damage.
I do not know/believe it will be as successful against a LK Messiah Kick, but most Rufus will use the bar if they have it in an attempt to do massive damage.
Thought I’d make a video for newer Seth players demonstrating the sorts of combos you should actually be using in matches. Will update the video description and add annotations (probably) tomorrow, as well as make a post going in to everything in more depth. For now though, here’s the video:

Hopefully quality will be significantly improved once processing is done, else I’ll re-upload.
Anyway, I’d appreciate any comments on it, e.g. if I didn’t include something in this video that you think is quite important, or there’s some combo that slipped through that has no use (hopefully not) etc. One thing I can think of right now is I didn’t include anything involving his dive kick but meh.
I think it was definitely a well made video and will be helpful to a lot of people trying to learn Seth. I do feel, however, that if you even just added annontations to the combos that are especially common in Seth play it’d help newcomers differentiate flashy and/or difficult from absolute must-know’s. Like cr. short cr.jab cr.strong xx lightning legs, cr.fierce -> lightning legs, j.strong -> headstomps.
Great vid!
Looks good. Great video. Only thing I have a problem with is that at you start the combo off with a FA3 which does less damage overall because of scaling. Also, no headstomp shenanigans on the reset?
Putting a link to the video in the first post of the combo thread.
Awesome video, some of the stuff on there is a bit advanced but its nice. If you make a second video I’d love to see some options after resets, I’m still lost a bit on what to do after a dive kick reset in the corner. Like when/how to do the headstop mixup after a divekick reset in the corner or what options would I have at midscreen ect ect.
Looking forward to the next one.
Cheers everyone. Added a few annotations now feel free to comment on them.
Kikuichimonji: it was more just a random focus crumple as an example of when to go in to it, but yeah, I can see how people could mistakenly think from that it’s a good idea to start with focus. Made a note about it in the annotations.
Also no, no head stomp shenanigans on the reset except at 4:10 :(. If I redo the video I’ll add some I guess, but you have no idea how hard timing the second you leave the ground is when your fps is jumping between 10 and 25 (I was actually having to watch the fps display when doing the combos and speed up/slow down my inputs based on what it was set to). Though maybe if I found a way to pre-record movements that would make doing an updated video a lot easier (or I could look in to getting a capture card). And cheers for putting the video in the combo thread, though the url points to 3 minutes 24 seconds in atm, not to the start =).
Digital: Maybe someone else in this forum could give you better advise, but in matches I tend to play it safe for a bit just to get a feeling for what my opponents likely to go for (or just guess based on what character they play) on reset.
SPD and 50/50 cross under block string are always good options. I do head stomp in the corner when I think they’re probably going to block low or jump (d.mk > d.mk > hk > bnb or spd on block is pretty effective) though neutral j.hk works out quite well too. jump hk/dive kick crossup up guessing game sometimes works out well also… or just block if they picked a shotto and their gp is > 50k (serious question: why/how is EVERYONE with high gp a garbage srk spammer?).
KKK Teleport back’s also pretty safe if you have a significant life lead (I’ve started playing much more by numbers recently), though be prepared to rage when ryu spams a wake up ultra and catches your teleport - in corner you generally have enough time to low wall jump out actually, which can be safer still. Anyway, that’s pretty much everything I do on reset all based on trying to read my opponent - or if they have no health left just throw out srk and chip them to death.
i like the video. it’s very sensible.
in corner i would recommend doing a fake crossup dive kick instead of d.mk > hk sometimes, since d.mk > hk is abused by most seths. it stuffs shoryukens and it’s a godlike hit confirm, once you get good at making it hit low on their body. it’s also the only safe offensive wakeup option against Sagat, since d.mk trades with TU.
Vid just got 10x better, IMO. Nice job. I found the intro, with the eerily calm music and Seth in the background looking badass, to be creepy.
SaiykoBeast: When you refer to the fake cross-up dive kick, do you mean as a mix-up after headstomps? If so, are you talking neutral jump or jump forward? I ask this because usually I don’t bother with headstomps shennanigans afterwards and just go for an ambiguous BnB.
