Probably because just finishing out the SRK puts you into another mix up situation, where as that combo would make you lose your momentum. Also if you’re going to burn two bars you can do other stuff that would do around the same amount of damage, and it would definitely do more stun. People like to save Ultra 2 to chip out occasionally, but prob the biggest reason not to do that combo is because Ultra 1 is so good. I use Ultra 1 in almost every match because it punishes things full screen, and gives you a safe jump. Still it’s not bad damage.
It’s not worth it because Seth loses any real mix up opportunities and could use meter for better things. The recovery is dumb on U2. You also have to learn which characters Seth dashes behind after a DP FADC… So…it’s not really worth learning, imo. If you wanna get extra damage, use 3 bar combos. If you want mix ups mid-screen, hit confirm Boom FADC into cst.HP xx HP DP (sometimes you can do cr.HP.) If you’re anywhere near the corner, hit confirm Boom FADC into cst.HP xx HK Legs. And if you really want to combo into Ultra 1, you can do that too (sometimes you can use just one EX Boom, other times you have to FADC.) Then you get another mix up.
There is no real application for Ultra 2 outside of gimmicks and a few character specific traps. The damage boost it gives isn’t big enough to outweigh the near total loss of momentum. Though, some characters you may prefer to use Ultra 2 to AA with…
hey what are you doing here
Ok thanks guys. Just was wondering. Also i know ther are lots of mixups that you can go for off of seth’s 9890934 knockdown options. I’m really trying to get up there mixup wise… just looking for random advice. Been scouring the forums hard lately. Here’s what i’ve been doing:

Loving low stomp XU jHK. Using it after:
-Legs, Dash x2, jump forward
-same as above, but do Boom FADC first. This one is stupid hard to block correctly. Haven’t been mashed out of it without them eating some damage
-SPD Dash, jump forward
-same, except Boom FADC first… not frame tight, so if the boom is mistimed they can or Focus (I think) but the focus can be OS’d
Threat of whiff jumping attack>SPD is amazing.
-after c.HK, whiff jump attack=awesomness
-after SPD, dash, jump whiff attack=awesomeness
-Of course delaying the jump allows for the cross up jHK which is always good.
Boom FADC Teleport is amazing
-After any legs, of course, for cross up.
-After SPD.
-After U1?
Finally, i would like to say that Tanden Engine is O motherfucking P. LOVE that shit lol
-After any KD, stand a big block away and use MK tanden to beat backdash or most mashing
-After legs, dash. I use HK to draw them close enought for LP SPD, then go for SPD mixup
-After a reset
-After a block string… careful not to get predictable.
This is the stuff i consider as I’m starting out. I’m really enjoying seth a lot. As a beginner, what should I be adding to my game? I have most of the non-character specific hit confirms down, although i have a hard time using c.LP, sHP, SRK after a cross up (not sure why). What else should i be working on.
Will continue scouring the boards now…
My favorite shenanigans are:
Dash, SPD
After an SPD empty jumping for another SPD (mostly against characters who don’t have SRKs)
Abusing the SRK FADC OS
(in the corner) instant stomp, j.LK to land on the same side and combo into Hyakuretsu, stomps
Canceling cr.MK & cst.HP into Tanden against people who don’t know when to jump or SRK out of it
(against certain characters) cr.HP, j.MP, cst.HP reset (xx LP Tanden/xx Sonic Boom/Dash, SPD)
I know what I really need to work on though is using different OS, improve my execution for those 1-2 frame links, and of course work on learning the match ups.
I’m gonna call it (though I think Kiku already did.) Dash, SPD isn’t a shenanigan. That shit is mad cheap. If you’re really in your opponents head (ie he doesn’t want to press buttons at mid-range) you can even dash twice into LP SPD.
Spoiler
I love it.
Against some characters, head stomp, j.HK will not cross up. I’m pretty sure you can control this if you have the opponent cornered, which makes it effectively impossible to see (so they just have to guess.)
DP OS, back dash, x low attack buffer Hyakuretsukyaku can catch some people being a little happy with their buttons.
Against bigger characters that magneto loop does not work on, you can do a something of a ghetto magneto loop. It’s a little difficult to time, but just use dive kick as soon as possible and it will clip them.
Not really a shenanigan, but dive kick can actually cross up against some characters. Generally, you will need a set up and usually need a hit box as wide as a shoto.
Consider working cr.LK, cr.LP, cst.HP into your game on characters that it works on. Not really beginner oriented, but you may want to work cr.LK, cst.HP into your game as well. Slightly tough link (iirc 1f), but it opens up good opportunities.
So sick of good back dashes forcing me to Tanden. So I’ve been trying to work OS Ultra into my strings. But I’m having problems and could use some help.
Every time I do these (for example): *cr.LK ~ cr.LK ~ QCF ~ QCF ~ downback ~ 3P, cr.MP
cr.LK ~ QCF ~ QCF ~ downback ~ 3P ~ cr.LP, cr.MP
cr.LK ~ cr.LP ~ QCF ~ QCF ~ downback ~ 3P ~ cr.LP ~ cr.LP
*I always get the following:
- Ultra comes out (no matter what)
- Teleport comes out
- Sonic Boom comes out (guess this is because I tried two QCF in two cr.LPs)
Someone please explain to me the execution for this; how I should be timing it and if there are easier ways to do it. Thanks in advance.
How does Bison beat Seth?
I always thought the OS Ultra was
Crouch LK ->> (QCF -> ) Stand LK -> (QCF PPP ->) Crouch MP/whatever. (this should let reverse edge take care of ultra coming out)
Because Stand LK can’t be cancelled you don’t end up with EX Sonic booms, if you can do 2 QCF’s in between 2 shorts & still chain your links, then you must be damn fast
By depleting his health to 0.
No seriously, i always find Bison cariest in the corner, Stand HK & Stand MK’ing my health away.
I dont get it you can just DP both of those normals…
i can DP both of those normals? my reactions arn’t that good
Seriously, Seth doesn’t have the best options in the corner against Bison. He can DP them yes, however if i DP & you block, then you get Close HP -> Crouch LK -> LK Legs, or if you’re already charging them Close HP -> HK Legs.
On top of this Stand HK is fast, hits crouch & often catches Seth trying to wall escape. MK usually beats low pokes, like Seth’s Crouch MK, Seth also has no real answer to LK Scissors pressure in corner, besides Stand LK
I’m not saying it’s a walk in the park though, getting Seth in to the corner is a challenge all its own.
Bipson doesn’t beat Seth, basically.
At mid to high level player, Dictator can only play as stupid as possible and hope it pays off. Dictator wins in footsies, but he has really meh AA options. So Seth can just keep in the air most of the time. Once you factor in Tanden Engine, it pretty much neutralizes the footsie problem. Since Dictator has virtually no come back factor, you can afford to take risks with jumps and Tanden way more often than you normally would. Dictator has about a thousand escape options which prevent reliable OS, but you can just safe jump him and react to what he does afterwards. If the Dictator player has habits, you can capitalize on them: OS jump to punish teleports harder, meaty Tanden to make Psycho Crusher whiff or get sucked in, OS DP to punish EX Reverse and Stomp. fst.LK doesn’t do a lot of damage but it practically prevents Dictator from trying to bully you without meter, and that’s all Dictator really has outside of his escape options and footsies. He has to get in the air to discourage Tanden Engine but most of your shit beats his a2a anyway. Probably his worst match up behind Guile.
I’ve seen people OS Ultra off of jabs (on other characters) and I know gridman said it was possible…but then again, he also said he’s never seen Poongko do it. Maybe it’s technically possible but humanly unrealistic…
You can DP LK scissors Seths DP is 5 frames, LK scissors has a 10 frame start up and 0+ on block so thats a 5 frame window
You can DP almost anything, but a 5f window is beyond human reactions. Dictator is too far away for Seth to FADC after a properly spaced Scissor kick (iirc) so unless the Seth player is taking some retard mode risks or KNOWS you’re going to press a button, Seth won’t try to DP you. I mean he might do it once or twice to let you know he’s willing to take a risk, but it’s a risk in your favor every time. you can’t do pressure without taking risks.
you’re right about the Bison stuff breaker, all i gave was a quick answer There’s no denying that a cornered Seth is in a very bad position against Bison… I think this bloke is looking for thing Bison can do, not what Seth can do back. I think he’d be better of hitting the bison boar,d but who knows, that could be dead.
it’s actually a 10 frame window to react to, not a 5 frame one. & reactiing to a 10 frame start up move with an SRK (hell, EX legs would likely beat it) just doesn’t happen reliably. I’m not saying Bison doesn’t have his problem, but worrying about your Stand HK, Stand MK or or LK Scissors getting SRK’d arn’t some of them.
Every Seth I’ve played is easily capable of punishing my SK even when they are in the corner with a DP - In fact punishing 0<10 frame windows with 3-5 frame INVU DP’s is an essential skill if you’re going to play a character who has access to this tool
Pros can’t consistently block 20f overheads. Just about everyone outside of this board claims it is humanly impossible to react to Tanden Engine (where you have about 17f to do so if you’re staring at Seth really hard and anticipating it.) Dudley’s overhead is one of the fastest in the game and nearly impossible to react to at 15f. But even if you do react to it, how long will it take you to realize that you need to mash DP? Honestly you actually have less time to react to it because the start up doesn’t change Bison’s animation significantly in the first two frames. You realize that you’re “reacting” to something in less than 1/10th of a second to “punish” Dictator’s scissor kicks every time?
You’re getting punishing confused with reads. Or your friends are trolling the shit out of you. Alex Valle can barely whiff punish moves that have way more recovery than that.
You’re being too obvious with your Scissor Kicks. The Seths you play probably wiggle from d to df (indistinguishable from holding down/back) and push Fierce when they see you your character twitch. It’s a hell of a lot faster to just push a button than it is to input a motion. I start matches wiggling against certain characters with with moves like Blanka Ball, Scissor Kick, and slides.
Either:
-
You are doing scissors stupidly over & over, some Bisons do this, either way it isn’t a reaction punish.they’re just doing it because you’re likely going to go in to stuff the scissors you’re likely to do.
-
They are spamming SRK & you are diving in to it with scissor kick, in this case be a little bit patient, there is nothing more dissapointing than seeing a Bison not abuse the superd mid range poking tools he’s given.
-
They are reading you, often times there are situations you do a move, for Bison it might be 3 Crouch Shorts, then you do scissors, & this becomes a frequent staple to your gameplay. I have a habit of backdashing after a backjump when i’m low’ish on health, good players pick up on this stuff after a few sets, hell i didn’t even notice that i did it until i was ripped apart for doing it.
Either way, it’s not reaction, no Seth reaction punishes LK scissors unless they are posotively certain it’s coming & they’re ready for it. Even then, a small frame bait. (like Stand LK) could scare them in to SRK’ing.
Any tips for landing stomps after Legs in the corner? I can’t seem to do it fast enough and i was wondering if there was a trick to it.
