Seriously, What is the TRUTH about Umvc3 on PS3?

my friend has a new flat ps3 and it still runs like shit. He’s using the VGA cords, does HDMI make the frame rate better?

ps3 in general just bogs down to total shit from what I’ve seen. Even simple shit like standing still but the stage is animating some type of object bogs the game down to total shit. In training mode, you can still visually see some type of frame rate issue standing still if you compare it side by side to x360 which we do my area.

it also feels like the ps3 is dropping inputs because it can’t process the game properly which was also a problem in mvc2. Its pretty hard to trust the game to take your input when it can’t even process the game properly.

x360 has lag too. Capcom can never seem to get that problem right, its been a problem since sf2WW I think and maybe even in SF1. I think it has to do with how much shit is on the stage. The more shit the stage has, the more likely it is the game will bog down. When the port is bad, this problem is 1000x more visible as it was incredibly noticeable on ps2 mvc2 and now ps3 umvc3. The x360 just lags much less than the ps3 version but it still does it during certain moments. There is that one stage where the flaming bird flies in the background and it also has the flying ship. whenever those things are triggered, the game slows down. Then when you XF or call assists on it basically anything that requires more processing the game bogs down even harder.

and the whole thing about this problem is that it varies per stage. So you’re always working with a variable. You have the set amount of stage lag, then you also have the independent lag that can be cause by players and that can’t be done with the simplest thing like calling an assist. It makes playing on a bad port basically impossible because you’re working within a slowdown window the whole fight. If you use x360 timing on ps3 but the ps3 slows down, it doesn’t register the input in the right spot and causes it to miss
ot register properly because of when you hit the button. When the game bogs down during your sequence, you have to hit it later than you would on x360 because of how each system processes the game.

Unofficial EVO stage will be training stage. I found out at last week’s #FR3 that even bonne wonderland lags at times.

every stage has slow down issues even on x360. Its just that the x360 port does it far far less than the ps3 one which seems to do it standing still on training mode. Even on the most bare bone stages, the frame rate is off simply standing still. Then when you start adding more processing of the graphics to the game, normals, assists, specials, supers, anything with spark effects, xf it totally bogs the game down even more. We’re talking about simple shit like dashing fucking the game up, it shouldn’t even be used but I understand why its used. It just sucks dog shit that it has to be like that and no other scene has been through what the marvel community has to go through. ccc2 was used as an ST replacement @ EVO but as soon as people realized that the lag claims were true, they never used it again. This is the 3rd year in a row where marvel has been fucked. ps3 mvc2, ps3 mvc3 and now ps3 umvc3, its got to stop @ some point right?

IMO, its the equivalent of playing ps2 mvc2 and the mvc2 community would dare call that shit a tournament port.

it honestly should be a bigger problem and I wish more top players would complain about it so EVO can try to fix it.

Thats wonderful that your system doesnt lag, has nothing to do with another persons experience and opinion. I’ve experienced those types of lag on 3 separate ps3 systems. Our group of friends have played for over a decade(vs games) on more systems than i’ve bothered to count. It is far far more common for the ps3 to have issues than the xbox. I have noticed xboxes performing at a low level similar to the ps3’s when they overheat. Ps3 version seems to have issues when you first turn the game on.

PS3 version has more slow down and a bit of extra input lag, as you can see from this video:

Other than that there’s not much difference between them.

There’s more stuff like this here: http://ps360.ldblog.jp/archives/51702282.html

My 60 GB launch model “fat” PlayStation 3 performs at the same level as my 320 GB “slim.” Both experience framerate drops under the same conditions: Team Hyper Combos or any time Dark Phoenix has Healing Field active. I’ve played the game on the Jasper and Elite models of the XBox 360 and encountered the same loss in performance. While I haven’t tested the new Slim line, I can say from my own experiences that the end user isn’t going to notice much of a difference between both platforms when it comes to actual gameplay. The PlayStation 3 version does have an extra frame of input lag, but beyond that, the experience is virtually identical.

The two statements you made don’t match. Your own experiences have shown similarities, but that doesn’t mean that the PS3 version = the 360 version + 1 frame.

I swear I’ve felt a tangible difference in input lag between PS3s with 4 USB ports and PS3s with 2 USB ports. It’s bizzare. Not sure if it’s just a general hardware issue between the two models or if one model plays nicer with my converter than the other or what.

There is no slowdown. There are simply frames that don’t render. During the frames that don’t render, you are still able to input, however.

I’ve had matches in vanilla on PS3 where I clearly had to delay some of my combo inputs due to slowdown that I have never seen happen on 360. It was rare, but it happened.

you dont need fancy hardware to see that the ps3 version of vanilla lags pretty often. you see it at the start of every match. ive never played ps3 ultimate though so hopefully they fixed it.

Exactly, it’s not lag or slowdown, it’s stuttering. I’ve never played on a PS3 where it hasn’t happened though, and if you’re used to 360 it will not only annoy the crap out of you, but might actually influence the outcome more often than you think, as it happens pretty much every time when more than two characters are on screen (depending on the assist/THC). It happens because the PS3 V-Synchs via framerate when it can’t keep up 60 (so even at 59fps, it synchs to 45 at first, if it can’t keep up even that, to 30), in order to eliminate all screen-tearing, which isn’t a good solution when it comes to competitive fighting games for obvious reasons.
It’s clearly the inferior version of the game, but if that’s where the money is, that’s where evo go… or something.

I’ve never played Vanilla Marvel on PS3 but if everyone’s saying that it was worse than now, it must’ve been bad. 'cause it’s pretty bad right now still.

some people simply can’t tell and they will never take the words of someone who knows but can’t prove it. This is what fancy hardware tests are for. To convince the uninformed masses.

I’ve been bitching about ps3 version since vanilla and only good players could tell the difference. that thread was a nightmare. I had people telling me ps3 was fine and there was nothing wrong with the port.

some people need factual evidence. Experienced players can tell simply by looking but @ the end of the day, everyone knows its shit with actual physical proof.

yup 100% concur

since the ps3 version drops frames, stutters, lags or w\e the fuck people want to call it, it fucks up the combos.

combos are done through a certain muscle memory\speed cycle your body goes through. Its basically conditioning. When the game starts to bog down like that on ps3, your x360 muscle memory\speed cycle is off. You will input things @ the wrong time because the ps3 can’t play @ the same speed as x360 and you will end up actually missing your combo windows. Its why the more skillsmith players have a hard time on ps3 versus wesker players. Skillsmith involves so much precise timing that any slight alteration in the timing itself can be identified by the player. The easier your character is to play, the less this is a problem.

and who knows if the frame rate drops translates into dropped frames. Historically for capcom games, the frame rate drop has always equaled drop inputs

100% garbage. w\e happened to the authenticity?

lets determine the best player by making everyone play on the worst port possible. Sounds really legit…

im wanting to pick up umvc3 on the ps3, but my local tournament scene use 360 consoles exclusively for capcom fighting games. sucks man
