the reason why it got closed it was because this kind of threads always end as console wars
now , umvc3 has some “problems” on ps3, and i say “problems” because this is only noticeable (and not always, not many payers notice the difference to tell you the truth) for the 360 players and usually dont have a real effect when you play in the long run.

this comes because capcom really sucks on optimizing their games for the console that is not the leading one on the development phase, see sfxt for example, it runs better way better on ps3 than on 360. this is specially evident when other games have zero differences despite the console or the arcade machine when the game is a port of one

To be really honest with you, I have a PS3 and I can notice the frame rate issues after playing for a while or using moves like Okami Shuffle.

After extended periods of time, my timing for combos has to change a little bit.

Just choose the training stage and you’re good to go.

The PS3 version is inferior. Not because the 360 is better than the PS3, but because the PS3 version of UMvC3 is worse than the 360 version. There are two “studies” out there, one of which says the games are more or less equal (might even say the PS3 version is better) and the other which says the 360 version is better. They both have actual data, but the first report asks the wrong questions. The PS3 version is superior in some ways, but not in the ways that are relevant to competitive fighting game players.

I thought the ps3 version is faster than xbox. Better or worse I don’t know, but whenever I play on xbox I have to slow my move down.

That’s what it feels like for me too.

all feels the same to me. Have not had problems going between consoles, other than my friends SUPER crappy 1984 fightsticks.

But the first did have slowdown on the Asguard stage, probably still does. In the background I mean, not the actual match.

I know the ps3 version definitely lagged during some of my combos, always at the same parts too… When I fill the screen with crap and call an assist for example.

I have a PS3, and through all of my time with Vanilla and Ultimate I have never, ever had slowdown issues.

PS3 doesn’t like MODOK.

Play on danger room and there is no slowdown. 360 is flawless tho

I cannot speak for PS3, but I use the 360 and it has never dropped.

I’ve seen the PS3 do weird things on stream, but I’ve never actually had it happen while playing.

As far as I can tell, the reason some people feel no difference is because it depends on the model of the PS3. They don’t all seem to be identical hardware, I’ve played on PS3s in locals that were completely indistinguishable from my 360, but the PS3s my pools were on at Evo last year ran at half speed or slower on stages other than the training stage. I’ve played on about a dozen different 360s, and they all feel identical during the match, but several had issues with things like Dark Phoenix victory screens and would slow down massively at that point.

Kind of hilarious how the “standardized hardware” of consoles isn’t standardized at all.

ps3 lags when

simultaneous dhc, two people using assist same time, certain normals combined with assists and supers. Every single player i’ve met who started on ps3 has mentioned to me how crappy the ps3 version feels. it has no place in tourneys imo, only reason it’s in evo is because those dudes need equipment like anyone else(yay for the hookup from sony, shitty for the players to use tho).

see, the above post is an example of ones that aren’t true. most of those might have been true in vanilla, but ultimate doesn’t lag during DHCs or THCs. mine doesn’t, anyways. that’s one of the first things i noticed when i got ultimate on my ps3.

THIS.

I play on ps3 at home (late fat) and while I do find some lag during the aforementioned times, it is usually bearable. But when I play on a friend’s (early fat) ps3 with the same monitor, lag is EVERYWHERE. Whether this is because of settings or hardware, it is there nonetheless.

I’ve also noticed this large variation in perceived lag at a lot of regionals that use a stable of different types of ps3s.

Again this is anecdotal, so take it for what you will, but without tests of_multiplet_consoles to accurately com

my friend has a new flat ps3 and it still runs like shit. He’s using the VGA cords, does HDMI make the frame rate better?

ps3 in general just bogs down to total shit from what I’ve seen. Even simple shit like standing still but the stage is animating some type of object bogs the game down to total shit. In training mode, you can still visually see some type of frame rate issue standing still if you compare it side by side to x360 which we do my area.

it also feels like the ps3 is dropping inputs because it can’t process the game properly which was also a problem in mvc2. Its pretty hard to trust the game to take your input when it can’t even process the game properly.

x360 has lag too. Capcom can never seem to get that problem right, its been a problem since sf2WW I think and maybe even in SF1. I think it has to do with how much shit is on the stage. The more shit the stage has, the more likely it is the game will bog down. When the port is bad, this problem is 1000x more visible as it was incredibly noticeable on ps2 mvc2 and now ps3 umvc3. The x360 just lags much less than the ps3 version but it still does it during certain moments. There is that one stage where the flaming bird flies in the background and it also has the flying ship. whenever those things are triggered, the game slows down. Then when you XF or call assists on it basically anything that requires more processing the game bogs down even harder.

and the whole thing about this problem is that it varies per stage. So you’re always working with a variable. You have the set amount of stage lag, then you also have the independent lag that can be cause by players and that can’t be done with the simplest thing like calling an assist. It makes playing on a bad port basically impossible because you’re working within a slowdown window the whole fight. If you use x360 timing on ps3 but the ps3 slows down, it doesn’t register the input in the right spot and causes it to miss
ot register properly because of when you hit the button. When the game bogs down during your sequence, you have to hit it later than you would on x360 because of how each system processes the game.

Unofficial EVO stage will be training stage. I found out at last week’s #FR3 that even bonne wonderland lags at times.

every stage has slow down issues even on x360. Its just that the x360 port does it far far less than the ps3 one which seems to do it standing still on training mode. Even on the most bare bone stages, the frame rate is off simply standing still. Then when you start adding more processing of the graphics to the game, normals, assists, specials, supers, anything with spark effects, xf it totally bogs the game down even more. We’re talking about simple shit like dashing fucking the game up, it shouldn’t even be used but I understand why its used. It just sucks dog shit that it has to be like that and no other scene has been through what the marvel community has to go through. ccc2 was used as an ST replacement @ EVO but as soon as people realized that the lag claims were true, they never used it again. This is the 3rd year in a row where marvel has been fucked. ps3 mvc2, ps3 mvc3 and now ps3 umvc3, its got to stop @ some point right?

IMO, its the equivalent of playing ps2 mvc2 and the mvc2 community would dare call that shit a tournament port.

it honestly should be a bigger problem and I wish more top players would complain about it so EVO can try to fix it.

Thats wonderful that your system doesnt lag, has nothing to do with another persons experience and opinion. I’ve experienced those types of lag on 3 separate ps3 systems. Our group of friends have played for over a decade(vs games) on more systems than i’ve bothered to count. It is far far more common for the ps3 to have issues than the xbox. I have noticed xboxes performing at a low level similar to the ps3’s when they overheat. Ps3 version seems to have issues when you first turn the game on.

PS3 version has more slow down and a bit of extra input lag, as you can see from this video:

Other than that there’s not much difference between them.
