[Sept 1-9] TTT Presents: Summers End - CC2012 Team Canada Qualifier, NEC2012 Sponsorship

is lapchip in from calgary today?

I will challenge u in both SF4 and drinking

never been to one of these before. are there casuals booths? no way am i prepared to be it the tournament.

you won’t know how it feels like to be in a tournament unless you try. there won’t be many casual stations during the tournament anyway :stuck_out_tongue: playing in the tournament is also one of the easiest ways to meet people

Oh trust me, I’m totally not ready.
I don’t have a concrete team for UMvC3 where was I was so used to Task/Tron/Spen in Vanilla.
I’m transitioning from a pad to a stick
I can’t find the time to practice an hour a day and be lucky to get 2-3 hours practice a week

But I do want to get used to the tournament environment and will attend not for the tournament but to get a feel of how it is in person.

Ok i’m not sure if this has been answered.

But is Ryu banned? What is the point of him not being banned if he can’t win? I personally don’t care if he’s in or not, but if Ryu is banned from winning the trip then why is he not banned from the tournament altogether. They’re just gonna come in and fuck up the brackets, why not just make them play an alt instead or not join?

it’s character-lock and our team captain plays ryu, i think it’s self-explanatory that you can’t get on the team playing ryu

i would imagine people can handle themselves in this situation without a hard ban on the character in writing lol, if a Ryu wins the tournament he doesn’t get the spot, it goes to the next placing finisher. p simple

if he can’t win the prize then why should he even be allowed? Obv I know if Ryu is winning it’s Airs spot, but to have them even in the bracket is just…pointless. It’s like the gatekeeping debacles when all those marvel players joined the sbo quals with 0 incentive to go to sbo just to crush dreams.

Lol this nick guy. Gets called nick ham. Now he thinks boss or something ? The ham in nick ham stands for “horribley ass maaaaaaaaaaan”

because tournaments have prize pools and winning still pays more. this is the problem you run into when you roll a qualifier into a planned major, but it’s hardly a problem in the first place

There isn’t a problem with a player potentially winning a prize he can’t take? Or having to go halfway across the country to embarass himself with his alt?

Poker tourneys don’t let people join a satellite if they are uneligible to win the main prize, even if theres other prizes. Should a 17 year old be able to join the lottery even tho he can’t win, because hell theres a prize pool?

The integrity of the tournament can be affected in numerous ways. Deal making between players, soft playing if someone else isn’t planning to go, etc, all to get a couple extra bucks from people who aren’t even able to win the real prize. If that’s not a prob, then well I guess it’s not a prob lol

Unless of course you want to allow the winner to take the money and not go…then yes I agree Ryus should be let in…but I’m guessing that isn’t an option

sorry steve but I do have to agree with teddy. This is specifically designed to be a CC qualifier tournament with the sole purpose of being, you guessed it, a spot on team canada. If a character slot is already filled, it makes sense that no one should be allowed to use said character as there is no point since they wont qualify anyway.

Even though Teddy’s right about it compromising the integrity of the tournament, let’s fucking be real. If Ehai isn’t playing Ryu, name me one Ryu that has any fucking shot at winning? in before some troll says Jimmy

The chances of a ryu winning the tournament isn’t likely, but the chances of a ryu fucking up a side of the bracket and costing someone that has a decent chance to win is pretty likely.

And before you say, “well if they can’t win that they don’t deserve to go to Calgary” well you’re probably right, but I can just as easily say that “they don’t deserve to have their $10 wasted by someone who has no shot of going to Calgary”

that makes no sense at all. TTT would happen whether it was a Canada Cup qualifier or not. Are you gonna deny someone entry to one of the biggest EC tourneys just because they play Ryu? of course not. this tournament being a quali for team canada is an afterthought, isn’t it? y\all are gonna put money up to enter, and someone’s gonna get paid. if the person that gets paid also plays Ryu, there’s a contingency plan in place, and whomever is playing Ryu knows he can’t be on the team playing that character…

…but he can still win TTT and take your money. besides, what are you gonna do, tell every low- or mid-level Ryu player in attendance, sorry man, even though you have no realistic shot whatsoever to win this thing, you are barred from entry because you play Ryu? that would be retarded. If you’re actually concerned with anything other than the letter of the law, then just ban eric hai from the tournament. otherwise your complaints don’t hold a lot of weight. there’s apparently a lil sponsorship to NEC as well, right? so Ryu players aren’t allowed to compete for that because of a completely separate tourney?

basically i understand your point but logistically, since this is an open registration tourney that will probably get a lot of entries, your viewpoint is not practical

the NEC sponsorship is for marvel.

So are you saying that 0 of the prize pool is going towards the canada cup prize? If thats the case then I can understand and see what you’re saying, but from what I thought, the prize pool is going towards funding of the trip. And if thats the case, then the complaints do hold valid weight since ryu players can’t win anything. Also you’re saying that you’ll allow a Ryu player to play just because he has no shot of winning and it doesn’t matter? That sounds a lot like sweeping shit under the rug instead of picking it up and flushing it in the toilet.

And just so that you west coast people can stop getting confused (ie. Bee and T13), TTT is NOT a freaking tourney. It’s a group, just like CCG. This tourney is not a major, nor is it close to being one. It’s a regular monthly/bi-monthly that has a sick prize thanks to Lapchi and whoever else made it happen.

A mid level ryu may not be good enough to beat 5 of our best players, but he may be good enough to beat the best player on good circumstances. (Shane walker vs Js master) But I guess I’m not being practical, so its a moot point

oh i thought it was a major. your point makes more sense if its a smaller group, and if theres no pot money i couldnt disagree with you i suppose lol

either way gl

Actually, the winner gets 70% and the trip…

wires crossed, either way still not happy about having to go through a buncha freerollers but its all good, see everyone today
