Everyone loves comedy!
Just to keep this thread alive, I’m gonna post some of my best and worst work.
THE GOOD
This was, for the most part, my first animated avatar. To this day, it’s the 2nd most time consuming avatar I’ve ever made, and maybe the one I’m proudest of. I’m really pleased with the way it came out. The action covers the whole area. The popeye & olive sprite edits look clean and professional. The whole thing looks like a mini match vid. Maybe my best work.
I really like when I’m able to cram multiple jokes into a single av, and this was one of the best examples. Not only do we have typical Beavis & Butthead on the couch, talking, but we get a bridget joke, and we get the joke of Beavis finally beasting on Butthead, and we get the joke of shinku hadouken. While the animation isn’t great, and looking at it now, I’m not too fond of those hitsparks I did during the shinku, I’m still pretty proud of it.
Believe it or not, this was the 3rd most time consuming av I’ve ever made. Photoshopping c.Fp-tos onto the cheetos bag was really a pain in the ass. I really like the character interactions in this one, too. If I could change anything about it now, I don’t like the way Chester’s feet are covered by the cheetos bag, but I wanted to keep him in the same position as he starts, and I was too lazy to re-do the opening frames. Also, like the Beavis & Butthead one, it contains multiple jokes.
Dunno why I like this one, but I do. If you look closely, the pillar of the bridge changes position with the camera changes. This was inevitable due to me not being able to find a fill rip of the pit stage.
I’ve always loved avatars in a constant loop, and this is probably my favorite one that I did. I lucked out that Nemesis00 gave me Juggs & EJ to work with, because the animation I did just kinda came from trying to figure out how to have those two interact. The shifting dither of the Duke Nukem bg isn’t too noticeable because it meshes well with the gunfire flash.
Galactic just kinda handed me these pics, and I threw 'em together. (I did hafta edit out the rest of the JLA from the pic with Supes, Flash & MM together) The end result looks really good tho.
The zoom effect looks really cool, but made it so I could fit about 4-fewer frames into it than I did without the zoom. This av was so much longer before I edited it down to fit the filesize requirements. there was a conversation between Rock & Bullwinkle & Boris & Natasha that had to be cut completely. If you notice, also, due to careless pallette chopping, Boris’s teeth flicker between beige & white.
Many of you saw this in the latest av battle. This was, by far, the most time consuming av I’ve ever made. Those edits were a BITCH. I’m really proud that I fit over 100 frames into it, though, and with how the animation looks. As OrangeCat pointed out to me, the text, “Your Mission:” disappears during the “Shin” I’ll fix it later.
These are probably the best of my smash bros avatars (for whatever reasons). I took the idea because, while the game is VERY popular in tournies, etc., Nobody here had a smash bros av that I’d seen (mostly because there is no established sprite set) so when I stumbled across these sprote edits, I jumped on the chance. Some of the smash bros avs I’ve done are fugly as hell, and I’m kinda embarassed of. These are the way they were supposed to look.
THE BAD
I found this one really funny when I made it, but it’s just not too well composed. Needs a bg. I might revise it someday.
In these, due to laziness/pallette contraints/etc., I used solid color bgs that look kinda plain. I’d probably squeeze some sort of bg in them if I did them again.

Just to say quiche, even the MacGyver av looks awesome. I mean the animation is really good, the timing excellent. I guess we all know about the problems with sacraficing BGs for animation.
I shoud also mention that Bowling Pin has awesome awesome colour palettes with all his works. He makes them work moreso on a basic level, it looks great on an advanced level. Like especialy the A&Fitch tag, normally those colours might not have worked, but he made them work and very damn well. It’s not so much colour balance but the ability to get colours together that work very well.

Here are some of the shittier avs that I’ve made.
An av that I made for Higher-Jin a whiles back. Of course everyone has used the “Golden Storm Sprite” because that’s probably the only one readily availble on the net (unless you search elsewhere for it really hard 
). As with everyone I get pretty ridiculous requests and like an idiot I accept them. Not as a challenge but because I can’t say no in fear of hurting their feelings.
Bizarrely enough not being only one of the shittier avs I’ve made, the end results was actually completely wrong. I forget now, I think it was supposed to have IM actually win as opposed to Ken + Storm DHC. Nevertheless because of the 20K limit and the ridiculous request, the result was something terrible. I don’t particularly lament this av, in fact I lament more the mistakes in avs that I actually like.
Just something I put together. One of the major gripes I had about this was why couldn’t I have I-No rub her guitar neck a bit longer? I just couldn’t because of the size restraints. Biggest complaint of course was: why Sol was “Heaven?” considering that Sol and I-No were basically pretty bad asses at the same time. Well in a lapse of judgement I imagined that I-No was more of a bitch/candidate for Hell than Sol. By comparative standards Sol could be saintly. However what I also wanted to show was to pair Sol’s “crotch thrust-esque” post with I-No’s “rub the phallic guitar” pose together in some pathetic allusion to a handjob. I wonder how many people actually got that reference, I guess I’ll never know.
Another silly concept that I wanted to put together. Guitar weilding fighters just rocking it out. If any of you don’t remember I had the Custom text of Za-Bill and The-I-No-dore, hence the reference to "Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure with Rufus in the BG and the Wyld Stallyns text. Although the idea was pretty good, I wore it for quite a while, however everything did NOT come together well. Resized sprites, sprites that don’t even match up in style, piss poor BG with Rufus, and the text…well I was looking for a brush stroke and I tend to use Bad Seed for that wild look, but I think I need to change it sooner or later, it looks pretty shitty when small and shitting in general.
I don’t think that I ever worn this one ever. Mainly due to problems being able to find a proper font for the signs (Bad Seed might have suited it this time), but just wanted to show judging in a different matter. In fact it was sort of a rip of what Rei did when his Judgement av, kinda my own twist on it. Of course space restrictions made it jumpy as Effie on uppers. I think I did eventually work out the text, but I don’t remember wearing it for it being so plain.
This one is pretty bad considering that you actually had to know the skit in order to understand it. Even moreso I took my own twist and imagined perhaps that Lothar wanted to try out different ways of expressing his usual tagline of “Welcome, I am Lothar of the hill people”. The problem of course is that with the font so small, it’s hard to catch my different “emphasis” on each repeating of his catch phrase. I mainly used caps lock and periods, but it’s hard to catch even the 2nd time around if at all.
Dios-X’s av featuring his GF. He has an obession with breasts if you haven’t notice (I actually let him used my avatar battle avatar after the judgement). I didn’t have much of a problem with this except with the BG, the poor choice in the Mai sprite. I had an idea of which Mai sprite I wanted to use…I forgot which, but it wasn’t the one that ended up in the avatar. Also breaking consistency, the Mai sprite did not animate at all.
Secondly the text was something that could have been worked upon, as well I quite dislike putting two different character sprites (i.e. Capcom + SNK) together. Funnily enough the BG was actually part of the photo that Dios sent me. I guess it looked good enough that anything else I had in mind.
Me helping out a new tagger make his own av that he requested in the IMM. I just showed him how it should work out, but still I’m a bit disappointed with the end result. Mainly because in some ways there’s not much to animate and even in that small bit of animation it was nearing 20K which surprised me. He liked it all enough, but still very plain.
An av that never saw the light of day. Partly because I grew to hate the idea and partly because there was just too much shit to animation in order to make it into a loop (which was my original intention). The contiuing loop should have been that the ball (should have been cue ball) dropped back down onto the table for another hit. This was for Mr. Blank at the time but like a coward and instead of finishing this, this was right at the time of the increase to 160x100 av space and the SRK City av craze which I just slapped one together for Blank with I-No. tada…instant lazy ass av.
I think this was an av for Psycho Gorath initially. But since he adores Shuma I thought it was a bit crass of me of hitting him/her/it off a golf tee.

Bowling Pin- Really nice work, it seems everything from you has alot of originality. My favorite definitly has to be sole novelty. The way you have the symmetry with the eyes in the BG is just perfect.
OC- I just love the way you can bring any ideah to life. Not only are you’re avs animated so well, but the stories are hilarious lol. Very nice work!
ytwojay- Damn yo, the way you make this pictures glow are just amazing:wow:. looks like you can turn any picture into a work of art.
#reload- Nice work:tup: . That av with the rain is just too hot! But I would definitly like to see some more work from you.
Shatterstar- You got alot of potential in you’re work yo … but damn no computer and ps?.. I guess thats why u dont have any animated work, thats too bad cuz i know you got some sick ideahs. But its still nice work:tup:, I actually like sol negro the best lol.
gqac- I truly believe that you’re the master of originality and comedy… Every av you create is like no other. Even you’re avs with the same ssbm theme bring somethin funny and unexpected every time you create a new one… that cant be easy.
alee- lol yea that is funny… but post more damnit! lol

use to try to make avs with my the crow account and was really liked the cloud-> water color effect for the bg for some reason. the guy requested three characters and instead of making them have tons of different colors on plus the background color, i tried just picking one color for each character and their sides of the bg. heh… i’m sure you guys noticed by now that chunli’s left shoulder wasn’t the same as her right side as in the ball shoulder was outlined… kinda forgot.

wanted to try a different shape than the default av size that srk gives. fun thing to try. oh and that white flash… wasn’t supposed to be there… but hey i got a cheap white flash effect for no work at all.

same thing as the previous. tried making it look like a puddle of blood but came out just a bunch of circles. the character is from tenjo tenge. av was for demon hyo. wish i still had php… i never really got to actually dl’ing fonts to my pc and always used the defaults… envy how you guys can make up nice animations… the only thing i learned by experimenting was mere fade in/ fade out or switching colors.

made this when i started getting back into virtual on. liked the previous design so i did it on this chibi version of cypher that i found on a japanese vo site. not really sure as to why i added the pink balls but i put them there anyways.

last one. found a pic of this character whose name i forgot… . anyways i darkened (if thats even a word) a part of the sky and added faded the shooting stars on the background. umm… on the name… i didnt want to use any other color then white… since i didnt know what else to use… so umm… i burned around it…
dont have all avs on my hd anymore… stored them all on my php account and someone got to it and changed the password. eh oh well less more crap to remember.
Well, I guess I’ll go all the way back to my beginning of avatar making, since it hasn’t been all that long, and since I haven’t worked much with sprites.
Back in the day, I didn’t know anything about forums or avatars, much less, sigs. A friend I made in the first forum I visited gave me “Flash MX 2004” for my birthday, and through some stick tutorials, I made this:

How pathetic I was. Anyways, shortly after, I ran into JoinedArtists forums. They animated full-bodied figures there. Didn’t take me too long to kind of figure out what they were doing, and I made one of the avatars I’m most proud of. Pride comes from me being a complete noob (and it being my first neat full bodied aniamtion) and also because I used a mouse.

For a while, I made random sigs and avatars, but due to reformatting, I’ve lost most of them. After a while, I got a graphic tablet and tried animating once again in Flash.

Meh… I tried. Lastly, come the sprite avatars. I had made one a while back (using ImageReady) about Megaman (From Battle Networks) trying to fighting Morrigan, Morrigan flashed him, and he exploded in happiness. It got deleted. Now, a couple of weeks ago, I tried to re-learn IR since I hadn’t used it in forever. I saw Alax.Cool and Hail and Kill’s thread of iPods, and I asked for one. Sadly, they weren’t taking request, so I tried to make my own. I made two. One animated, one none-animated.

an instant classic to some, too long for others, but i’m really glad i asked DG to make this av for me. i didnt even know who DG was but somebody suggested that i ask him to make this av for me. to this day i’m glad i did. i really not all that sure as to why and how i came up with this idea to have Hiryu be like a “rouge strider” and just goin around beasting on female ninjas but i do kinda have an obsession with ninjas and Psylocke so i geuss you can take that from there. some people didnt get the joke untill they saw…

IMO, i felt that this was the best of the 3. i was longer and it had better quality than the others. what people dont realize(or understood) that Grandmaster Meio was the true mastermind to why Hiryu was goin around doin other job other than putting a end to Grandmaster. the Doom/Meio combo was a good idea IMO. having akuma as a fellow hentchman was a last minute idea. Guy was perfect for this story cuz is one ninja trying to stop another.

i came up with this idea when i was searchin for jill valentine sprites(which i never found). i’m kinda glad i didnt cuz DG made this idea even better than i imagined it to be. it shocked me the see that text for “Resident Beasting”. once again u see Guy fail to stop anything from happening.

i came up with this idea mainly because i stummbled across the edited sprites of Guy and Cody in Final Fight, also i wanted to make fun of the fact that the charater Poison is actually a guy, and for me growing up thinkin that back when FF had came out on SNES i never knew about that till like this year. DG, once again surprised me with the BG used in the flashback sequence and the Metro City map. also, i wanted to show that even Guy needs to beast every now and again even though he was originaly against it. this was the last av DG made for me…:sad:

here was my 1st attempt at giving my ideas to other SRKers. this is actually made for doujinshi. i was just going for a shock or change in direction of which my ideas usually go to. this one came out perfect and i liked the diffrent style that DG used for this. as you can see not only did DG’s av making skill improve but my ideas got a lil better aswell.:tup:

why did my teacher ever trust me with her camera? anyway, i was just taken random pictures and i was pretending that it was for an art/multimedia class work so i just went around takin pics, unfortunately it was only of my friends and whoever let me take there picture. i was hopin i could find some of the females that i liked but my teacher wasnt that stupid to let me leave the class room with a camera. well, at least i got a chance to work on my editing skills…at that time, rpg stats was at lvl 2:rolleyes:

1st, no she’s not sucking his dick…i heard that so many times in high school when people saw this. what i shouldve done was made the actuall picture smaller so you could see that the bad guy was actually trying to challenge the girl. in case youre wondering, yeah, i drew that. i just scanned a drawing in and took it from there. i was self taught when it came to ps cuz my teacher was still a novice at the shyt. plus, i was like one of the 1st students to take her class so meh…that bg is just…moving on…:tdown:

really late in high school i started drawing comics with a fellow underclassman but we did are own seperate prodjects. he was by far the better illustrator but i was better at character design and storytelling. this girl you see here is one of many characters i came up with. the comic i had was called Black Moon but the thing about me and drawing comics…i can never finish them:xeye: . oh yeah, that pic sux too.

a lot of my artwork envovled females mainly cuz i had a really hard time drawing them, as you can see, one of those things were lips. i love anime but i never liked the way most animes i seen in the past drew black charcters. i always wantd to draw a character and not have to worry about “does the person look too ethic” or “are the features over done”. luckly, ive gotten way better at drawing females…to bad it dosent show in that pic…
