I just beat the game last night.
This game feels like Shenmue for adults mixed with a modern 3D take on Streets of Rage.
32 hrs. I basically played only the main story with 10 substories.
Wow. (I said that with logan too)
For someone completely new to the Yakuza series, I was blown away.
The story felt like a very good Hollywood crime story. Usually, Im following along perfunctory in story modes, but this game had me eager to keep progressing to see the twists and turns.
Regarding the supporting characters, I really liked Tachibana/Makoto and their backstory as well as Oda.
I wish Nishitani was in it more. Pretty entertaining character lol.
The drama in Ch 6 between Nishiki/and Kiryu was well acted. As was the meeting of Makoto and Tachibana.
I liked both protagonists, but I really liked Goro more. His character development and his growing attachment to Makoto drew me in. Gameplay wise, I liked all his styles a bit more than Kiryu. Slugger style for the win. He channeled Mitsurugi from Soul Calibur and Eddy gordo in the breakdown style.
I liked the fact that the 2 towns, Kamurocho and Sotenbori were big, but not too huge that you couldnt run to most places in 2-3 minutes.
I only used the taxi 2x in the whole game lol.
I like the few 10 substories that Ive done. Good variety and I like that theyre funny .
Pretend to be a girl’s fiancee? Sounds like something out of City Hunter?
Be an Epidemic dressed tv producer? Woot.
The music was great esp battle on the boat.
I have very few nitpicks:
The shooting in taxi section- Why cant you use R2 to shoot? It was very weird to use square for me.
I wish Kiryu would have fought Awano once. He fought 2/3 of the Dojima Lts. Go all the way homie!
Fighting Kuze like 5 times made him seem like a joke. Maybe keep it to 3?
I didnt super love the real estate and cabaret management stuff, but it wasnt tedious.
What is the use of pocket tissues ? Please enlighten me.

I used pocket tissues once in a sub story but it wasn’t necessary there either.

I didn’t bother with any if they were expensive, fuck that, you get a cheap wallet/scarf or nothing. But now after finishing it up I have everything else but 7/8 of the Gold hostesses missing 1 for a completion point. 
CP shrine all turned in for Majima’s business. All Hostesses substory end of training done.
Does he get a final Gold host from a substory? Disco is the only place available to do a new one right now. UNKNOWN, Dolly, old lady already joined after theirs.
LOL Hostess training talks with Hibiki, MEGA DRIVE is the wrong choice.

But his search result rares I found MAD DOG COLLAR or THUG Necklace for extra power in those styles can be bought by Kiryu, even if it won’t even work for him?

You get a hostess club girl from a sub mission at the disco.
Isobe, the secret final boss of Y0 and the hardest fight in the game. Amon doesnt have shit on this bitch.
I just lower the search times to 0 for every mission and do that shit for half an hour.
When you can switch between Majima and Kiryu and can transfer unlimited money, I just go to Kiryu, let Mr.Shakedown steal 666 billion from him, beat Shakedown getting 999 billion and send 333 billion to Majima.
With Kiryu’s trait that lets you get 1.5 times more money from Shakedown and the golden pistol, it’s a piece of cake.
Just sidestep the fool and shoot his dumb ass.
I don’t have any of the items that give bonus Shakedown money yet. Or any besides Debt Collector Necklace. Just got that.
Alright. Beat Disco with Kiryu first, & expected maybe Majima would have to also do this crap.
I got the belt that you wear to send out a search and that drops the time 1:15 to 3:45, don’t know how much the two amulets Benkei/Traveler help. Don’t forget to try to pull weapons out to make the Arena fighting go faster, endless rout one even giving free weapons every so often.
Trying to grab the sledgehammer guy for the small bonus, died, so you don’t want to go too far into ‘only grabs’ would be the rule then face a sledgehammer guy that doesn’t seem to even be able to be grabbed.
You can hold block if knocked down on the fire floor stage and stand back up by blocking, avoiding that extra damage.
Catfight rates, always change. Betting 5 mil with x11 odds and get x8 payback on the win instead.
Claiming odds might change if you bet big. But at least totals of winnings on screen count just like the casinos, not needing outright profits. Walk away from there with miracle comebacks they won RPS once, killing me, only up 800K.

Komaki’s grandson will counter you just doing a 1 button X dodge dash, and that asshole is nowhere near you! Makes that open up level 25 maximum extension just take that much longer with Shinada especially. Using infinity durability pole, get a few in, get messed up even blocking nonstop and cornered to block all oncoming attacks, heal, manage a few more hits in. Got it finally. 2nd try, first try forgot to bring a full heal item inventory.
I used the 2 amulets and lots of money when doing the equipment searches and maxed it out, i dunno an hour or so for all the items. finding the places for the raven feathers was the biggest gripe for me.
Fighting the drunkard red in the face guy who stumbles into you, not the story cutscene one that gives you scarred battle damage, but he’s also only in the main game proper?
Haven’t seen him again in the premium modes.
Drunk red face guy > Mr Shakedown.
Yakuza 5 start of Mr Shakedown (Same Guile army camo pants and Red tanktop outfit of the Osaka guy) just runs directly at you from out of nowhere cant escape him. Not going to try to lose to him, but he doesn’t give anything major, cant avoid him. He’s aggro with rushing you but completely beatable.
