The way this game is designed is so weird too.
I mean the way it actually works is weird.
You go from super serious and tasteful Yakuza crime story, with good dialogue, characters and story (so far at least), to ultra violent combat, to goofy sidequests that give you insights into actual Japanese culture in a matter of seconds and somehow it works.
Usually games tend to have the same tone throughout the whole experience or just rarely stray from it at opportune moments, but this game is all over the place.
If this was a movie, it would probably be a disaster, but in the context of a video game it actually works.
Also love the rpg vibe this game has, with lots of equipment, unlockable skills and power-ups and the plethora of sidequests and mini games this game features.
I fucking hate Shen Mue, but this game takes everything that is trash about Shen Mue and makes it fun.
Also great that it isnāt open world.
Open world games aside from the Witcher tend to be boring as fuck. Shit like MGS5 where 99% of the map is just rocks and sand and the game wastes your time trekking through the dirt to arrive at the 1% where shit is actually happening is no issue here.
You got a couple of small town districts that are packed with content at literally every corner.
Earlier I had no health items on me since I carrying the legendary drinker shit. I did the telephone club shit and when it was over Mr. Shakedown was right at the fuckin door. I legit got scared af and dipped.
Hes not hard but he can still beat me if I have 0 health and heat items lol
Should have been packing the shitty. Telephone shit pissed me off for reals. Got tired of the rape a shell game trolling. Worse part is you canāt skip that shit. Just drags out.
Final play time: 103 hours, 37 minutes. Completion: 60.16%.
Manā¦ I wasnāt ready for this game. On top of being fun, the game has an amazing story and characters. Definitely cried once, teared up several times.
End spoilers:
[details=Spoiler]I definitely cried when Makoto realizes Tachibana is dead. That shit was extremely rough to watch, even if it wasnāt very long. Even Kiryu wasnāt able to keep it together just a minute prior. Shit, manā¦ Ending scene of chapter 6 between Nishikiyama and Kiryu was really tough too. I teared up real bad there; such an excellently acted scene.
Fuck, manā¦ Majimaās story is justā¦ so tragic. I was really hoping he and Makoto would reunite and at least say goodbye, but that never happened. That scene where the two yakuza lackeys were harassing Makoto and Majima saves the day was just so sad. It broke my heart that he purposefully didnāt say anything so she wouldnāt know it was him. I just wantedā¦ somethingā¦ ANYTHING. Some sort of scene where he is properly reunited with her, but he chose to remain out of her life. My heart canāt take this! Post credits scene where she finds her old watch that Majima left for her made me tear up as well. I really wanted him to find happiness after all he went through, especially after he fell for her and wanted to protect her, but at least he found purpose in life to live wild and crazy, finally freed from his cage. I really liked this version of Majima overall, although Iāve only seen bits and pieces of crazy Majima in the older games. I wouldnāt have minded if he was cool and proper throughout the whole series like he is in 0.[/details]
Overall I really loved this game. I still have side missions I need to finish up (like the hostess club), so Iām not close to being done with the game, even if Iāve gotten my moneyās worth and then some through a single play through. I canāt wait for the Yakuza 1 remake so I can start going through the whole series as well!
Might have to leave that [ ! ] Symbol over there, myself.
Did Medium 3 times. 1st 2, old lady rape, different ones too
āshit, I feel like I lost something iām probably never getting backā
3rd Time got the goofy busted face girl of the beauty marks in green.
Called her up for Darts and her dress is ridiculously baller with gold everywhere.
Havenāt been back.
Iām assuming its only the 3 girls as the completion list says, so only the 3 bikini girls featured onscreen, a different one in each course? We could go looking for info on does that questline even open up more quests, or if its only for having more dates to call at bowling/darts/whatever.
Did new stuff open up for you after you get thru the pocket racer circuit? Buying the new part (of the same series, higher cost now) and it adds no stat advantage = WTF.
Havenāt been back to the circuit since chapt 2. I got the two parts from the dream machine, need to find the guy for the side quest for the other good parts. Pretty sure the professor is waiting for me.
That takes an actual writing a word down to remember it, Playstation onscreen keyboard message typing entry type it in to tell him and unlock his store.
The little hallway alleys āshopping districtā where the empty Lot is, but it might not start there because you help some guy first by relaying something to Little Asia, the area you donāt go into until the story gets to it, but a lady meets you at the door. Its just to the left of the Champion District, East on the Map
NVM it does when you see a shady deal go down, try to buy too-he asks the password, then run after that guy who used the password. Then he sends you to her.
Headband superjacket guy is depressed behind the table and I need to finish the last race, Racer girl/Accountant Lady went down but the next of the 3 didnāt come out yet.
Yeah I got to a point where I had to do the Majima pretend boyfriend Quest to get any more open, but got hung up on the phone booth guy search requests. Might have 2 more there I think.
Anybody know any tricks for bullseyes in darts? I was trying to clear some minigame completion by doing shit in West Park going smooth so far.
Fuuuuuxk I wish 100% completion wasnt a plat or atleast tone down or remove some of the minigame requirements. I feel like its gonna be impossible for me to do the mahjong, shogi, darts and pool stuff. Makes me wanna give up lol
Yeah I was so glad Shogi was gone for several games there. They need an overhaul on the symbols at least to help you learn it, didnāt even check in this game what it looks like.
But not as hype Mahjong doesnāt seem to work the same. I probably learned that thru these games because its streamlined to help you and handles lots of things to point out what you can do.
Darts does seem a little less precise than before, throw speed is different, different feel on that, maybe better dart equipment helps with that?
Combat was kinda wonky at times, but Iāve dealt with that Iām previous yakuza entries. Slugger mode is OP.
Majima story elements were certainly the highlight of the story, certainly more angles overall than Kiryu as far as personality. Having only known him as āmad dog Majimaā prior made his youth demeanor quite surprising.
Sub stories were overall great. Judgement Kazzyās radio stories were fun.
Didnāt do much hostess stuff.
Space Harrier gives too many lives to make it challenging
I only completed like 30%, its doubtful Iāll do much more than go back for sub stories though.
2 sets of good darts are for sale in the pawn shop. I think 1 becomes available after 1 game, the other after 10 games. They both vastly superior to the shit you get/win.
A hat trick is anything inside the bull, not just the bullseye, with a good set of darts itād ad simple as drawing back fully, aiming the tip of the dart dead center then release, no added power just a full draw.
To win the 10 Mil. I bet the first guy, then the 2nd guy I play for 2 rounds n leave with the 5m. Do this twice. He outright fucks you on the 3rd.
Pool, play puzzle pool, first 2 rounds are easy so I did that 2 or 3 times for the 10m. Havenāt figured out the 2 trick shots yet.
Anyone knows what the fuck āoverkillā is with cricket darts?
Once I got like 200 points and then couldnāt score anymore and I donāt have a clue about that fucking game.
About Shogi I found a couple of online Shogi computers and I hope their AI is strong enough to beat that shit for me, as Iām sure as fuck not learning Japanese chess cuz I already suck at European chess.
Awano fight gave me the most trouble out of the last few boss fights. Lao Gui was decently challenging. I one shot Shibusawa, but that fight was pretty fucking bad ass. First phase I went Brawler, second phase I just went Beast and smashed him the fuck up with chairs and tables, and the final phase I beat him down with Dragon style. Funny enough, Shibusawa was the 100th enemy I defeated with Dragon style to get the CP; how incredibly appropriate. Only thing is I wish Majima had the final boss honors instead of Kiryu. I know Kiryu is the main protagonist for the entire series, but I really feel Yakuza 0 was really Majimaās story. I really feel Majima was the main character of this game, and he should have had the honors of the final epic boss fight.
