Regardless of how you felt about Sega in the last few years, they have meant so much to gaming and them going out of business would not be good for the industry. I want to root for Sega and hope they get everything in order but the corporate culture must change. Its time for Sega to do a better job of reaching out to its fans.
I’ve been critical of Sega’s business decisions a lot the past few and the quality of their games have been hit or miss. Never the less, seeing this breaks my heart as a person who’s childhood memories are linked to Sega. The Genesis is my all time favorite game system. Not just because of the amazing games I grew up playing but because of the memories. The birthdays spent playing Special Champion Edition and Streets of Rage, Christmas with Sonic Spinball, playing my first import game ever (Darius II), winning my first FG “tournament” (Virtua Fighter 2 at Funcoland as Akira. Yes I sucked but I was 10) and my mom taking me to play Virtual On as a reward for good grades. Many friendships and family moments were spent with the Genesis. Many of those friends and family are no longer with me. Now if you excuse me, I’m gonna smoke, pull out my Saturn, pop in my 4 meg cart, pick Gambit and Cammy and relive some memories.

Holy crap, Phantasy Star Online 2 better not be affected by this.

Damn SEGA
I always thought they were ahead of their time with games and consoles but lately they don’t have any marketing for their games but that seems to be changing with the push for VF5FS and community involvement there. They have quality titles (I guess that depends on who you’re asking) with Platinum Games titles and Yakuza series.
The article states that unannounced titles are being scrapped so they should put PSO in the safehouse (I hope it does). This does in fact suck for Platinum games. Who will publish their games now?
Someone smart will snap them up
OH FUCK SOMEONE MAKE SURE ANARCHY REIGNS IS OK
God I hope so. PSO2 is the only Sega product I’ve been genuinely interested in for years.
Capcom.

It’s close to April Fools so the setup is there.
soooooo… no shenmue 3???
i really hope that the rumoured shenmue 1+2 release on XBL and PSN still makes it through.
I’m a little shocked. I kept reading reports on how well they’ve been doing in the arcade business and games. Kinda’ miffed about them keeping the Aliens license (no idea if this extends to the Predator and Alien vs Predator licenses) as I would rather see a company like Valve or ID get that license and produce an amazing AVP game. One can dream. Under Sega I don’t think it’s possible for a true Alien/Predator FPS to thrive as an Online FPS either needs to have a massive COD or Battlefield like following, or be open source to an extent with dedicated servers at launch and map making tools.
Sega got Gearbox developing the new Aliens game. Gearbox has a great track record with FPS so I have faith will be an amazing game. Just hope it doesn’t stay in development for another four years.
Seeing how Rage ended up not feeling ID right now.
If it’s EA…I’m gonna puke.
EA does have that partners program with small development studios. Being in the partners program means they don’t have to deal with company’s bullshit policies (Like Kingdom of Amalur being released on Steam and not being Origin exclusive). EA Partners published games ain’t the most commercially successful neither so they could get some leeway. I’ll be more concerned if they try to purchase the studio.

Platinum Games is fine (they are in a X amount of games contract) and Anarchy Reigns is still on the way.
Sorry to hear them doing so bad. Even though i grew up with the Atari 2600, NES, and later the SNES- i ultimately became a Sega fanboy for the most part. The Genesis & Saturn are two of my favorite game systems of all time(wasn’t too crazy about the dreamcast. It had a lot of great games, but i have much fonder memories of the Saturn).
However, it seems Sega’s business practices have mostly sucked. They should have kept to making good games, and left the business & marketing side of things to somebody else.

In a world where Team Ninja can’t put out a good action game, Capcom hands of Devil May Cry to another developer, and seemingly no other company is putting out action games…that sucks to hear about. Sega and Platinum are my action game heroes this gen. That and Sega pushed out House of the Dead: Overkill and is publishing an Aliens game. I hope they can recover…
Even when Sega was making nothing but good games and systems their business practices fucking sucked.
Here’s hoping they pull through tho, i do love them. Hope that Shenmu makes it to online. Been feelin the urge to play that and scrounging up the goods to play it the legit way will be tough and expensive heh. I’d rather give that money to Sega.
199X Genesis days: SEGAAAAAAAAAAA!
2012: Sega…?
Fuck, they better not shutdown PSU for xbox.

I’m still hoping for a new Streets of Rage. The people who made it are now AM2, the VF series developers. Hoping if they do, Yuzo Koshiro does the game’s music.

The way how Sega is planning to handle the customization items for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is NOT a good indicator that they’re ready to start making good decisions about how they market their games:
And the way how Sega is lying to the fans about the reason behind this practice is NOT a good sign of how much they care to build a good relationship with the fans.
