Seeing S.T.A.R.S: The Nemesis Video Thread

New, to be sure, but this is essentially a different version of the corner based cl cm ch DP+L Reset. Still, kudos for interesting reset tech.

Hey, it’s Jaytoo!

I play Tron a tad, and fight her a lot as well. Gil is right that standing DR is a great tool, it stops almost all that Tron has to offer really efficiently, and the right assists grant combos off it from a while away (<3 Bolts), and here’s a few more pieces of whatever on the Tron matchup. 1. She can lower her hitbox to make certain things whiff while calling beacon bomb. While otherwise I find it’s a pretty useless move in neutral it can cause some of Nem’s stuff to whiff, and in a few cases this turns what would be a pice of pressure or a lockdown tool into a whiff and a free Tron combo, can that girl gets damage. 2. Her j.M is amazing, it can stuff out Nem’s j.M many if not all times if done with the right timing. However, she cannot always use it to confirm unless the player is smart about it. So, whether to keep the match at a midscreen, air-to-air game of chicken or keeping it far and away, zone and armor, defesive play, depends on the skill of the Tron and how good your assists are at sniping her assists. If they’ve got good confirms or have slower, clunkier projectile assists, or good forbid, no projectile assists, go for zoning and assists all day and you’ll be great. If they’re shaky on fast air-to-air confirms or rely more on j.H/j.S then her faster air normals, go for j.M’s, and it’s be an easy combo if you’re a bit careful about when to jump. 3. Gil preaches the st.L, and I have yet to make it a big part of my game, but he’s totally, completely right, st.L is Nem’s only get-off-me tool for really fast pressure and stuff, so sometimes mashing jab with the big guy can turn their momentum back into an even playing field.

That’s all I got on Tron…this should go in the matchup thread sometime.

Nice matches. This video has inspired me, but not in the way you’d think. I’m gonna start running anchor X-23 again, I miss her.

Also, thank you, JDog for showing that Doom who was just throwing missiles the error of his ways. I hate guys who just sit there and give no fucks, throwing out missiles all day and night.

You are right Gil. Looking back at the footage from the tournament, I realize that my Nemesis did very little. :frowning: Over the past week, I’ve been trying to incorporate more standing DR, less jump in DR/jM, as well as cut out bad habbits such as wake up grabs…but Im still have trouble opening up the my opponents. I’ve learned a lot, so with these new experiences under my belt, Im gonna rewatch your Nemesis tutorial video and see if I learn anything new from it.

Remember that while jumping Deadly Reach is for pressure, Standing Deadly Reach is more of a footsie tool. It goes over ducking opponents yes, but if those opponents are doing something, such as dashing forward or performing a special move, standing Deadly Reach should hit them. And for someone like Tron, it’s just a no brainer.

Im so used to doing jumping DR+call assist. But what I learned is that Im doing that way to close to the character that it wiffs, and I get grabbed. So I’ve been trying to keep my distance from the opponent before I attempt a jumping DR. But while doing that, I find myself at quite a distance from the opponent, and can’t figure out how Im supposed to get into striking distance to start an actual combo. Whenever I do jumping DR, I usually back it up with Hulk’s Gamma Wave assist. But Im thinking that if I wanna get into actual striking distance for like a cL, I should do standing or jumping DR+Sentinel Drones assist. Im trying to test it out this approach method in a actual match to see how it will work out. What do you think of that method on paper? Think it’ll be effective?

If you’re trying to get assists out while approaching, cH+Assist call xx Clocket L might suit your needs.

Funny thing about that approach. I have no idea why it happens. But I could do like you said with drones…they can be in the corner, but the opponent somehow manages to grab me while in between the drones. O_o Im like WTF!!! Lol I think maybe it’s be they are crouching and the drones go over them. So that way, the drones won’t touch them when they go for the grab.

I guess I’ll just throw this out there.

Combo video here. I did it, it’s got some random crap.

So I went through the stream archives and got the matches I played from a charity tournament yesterday. Any feedback yall have would be much appreciated. http://www.twitch.tv/superdave205/b/350383828 starts at 2:17 http://www.twitch.tv/superdave205/b/350367088 Starts at 53:07

Dude that was SICK! I liked where you got like 4 of those dart looking thing in one combo near the end of your video! Keep em coming!

Feedback: I actually really like that Haggar May Cry guy, but dude, he kept airthrowing you, you gotta get some distance. I’m thinking, since his assists don’t reach that far in neutral, start by backing up and getting a safe drones off, perhaps by st.H plus drones, chained into either DP+L or QCF+L, depending on which is safer with drones, I haven’t checked, never ran Sent. Once Haggar is far away from Nemesis, Haggar’s free, pipe isn’t as far-reaching as j.M, and standing tentacles stops his game.

For the vajra matchup…I have no idea. I hate that assist and rarely fight against it. I got nothin’.

And aww, thanks man! Dormammu combos are fun :D. The one you messaged me during was a similar combo confirming off of bolts rather than ending with them, but I decided I’d only put a few combos that started with Dorm (I did want to showcase Nemesis on this team, after all), and went with the most damage I could find.

Needs more sH. Goes through Pipe and Vajra. Meet Vajra in the air with a jH though timing is tough.

Oh yeah, armoring the pipe, how on earth did I forget to mention that?

Catching Vajra’s a bitch. If he has three meters to spare, or XF, or Nem’s dead, maybe just Hulk it up with a straight gamma crush. I’d say it’s worth it to rid the world of a tough anchor and amazing assist. Drones DHC or XF will make it safe.

My main problem with that match was just managing to create space between me and Haggar in the beginning. I realized that I should have done back H option select or something. And interesting…I shall practice catching Vajra with jH!

In addition to my stream matches, I also recorded my off stream matches from the charity tournament. Quality is kinda iffy, but still.

Jdog, really good stuff. Kinda hard to critique matches that you win because well…you won, everything you did obviously worked out for the best in this case or your opponent didn’t put you in any awkward situations. The first match was really hard to watch though but from what I’ve seen in the second match you know what to do for the most part. When you’re playing Nem and you have drones out try not to do ground DR, even if they are all the way across the screen. You could be using the time your doing DR to advance and go for the mixup e.g. wavedashing in, don’t be afraid to take a little damage, if they hit, they will be getting hit back by drones then you just convert off of that. For Hulk, don’t know if you use it but cr.L and delayed j.Lx2 are actually really good for pressure, especially with drones. Don’t think I need to mention blanka hop. That’s all I got for you right now…you’re pretty solid, but it doesn’t seem like you were playing against strong opponents.

Jdogg’s biggest problems when we fight is that A) Prone to mashing the ‘win’ button, usually H or sometimes Launcher for Nemesis, B) Very Drones reliant and C) Not the greatest on defensive and D) Likes to go for command grabs more than he should. Thought I’d provide perspective for future critiquers

Gil is right…one of my biggest bad habits is that darn H button. :-/ Im still working on easing off of it, but characters like Nem and Hulk kinda make it hard not to press H often. Another problem kinda related to that is that Im always trying to be offensive on wake up when I should accept the fact that probably the best option is to just stay calm and BLOCK for a bit. Lol! And thanks both of you, Gil and Airtola for your feedback. Airtola, here is a link from a tournament back in November. The match starting at 20:52 and the match following it are one that I lost, so those will probably be where you may find some weak areas that I I could improve on. Sorry in advance, the first match starting at 20:52 is kinda blurry at the start cause my phone took awhile to focus. Also here are my loses from the same charity tournament that I think you watched at first Airtola. These were streamed, which is why I didn’t record them. http://www.twitch.tv/superdave205/b/350383828 starts at 2:17 http://www.twitch.tv/superdave205/b/350367088 Starts at 53:07
