We didn’t stream UMK3 because it was impossible to move the stream equipment from the one station is was attached to. UMK3 was a cabinet across the stream of people. Even if “no one” cares about the game it was more interesting than some of the SFIV stuff we had on Sat.
Also Friday was still crazy from registration so we just wanted to get 3s done, hence no recording, streaming or place in Sunday Top 8. I still had to make brackets for all the Sat games. It’s still one of my fav games so it wasn’t malicious or out of neglect. SFIV teams seemed like a better fit for the stream anyway.
I would have put my camcorder on UMK3 but they were using mine as part of the stream. LEX sorry man we didn’t get any of you on tape. If we are back next year with a cab maybe we can get you some MMs to face off against and cap them.
Also please don’t worry about requesting DVDs/footage/etc. We’ll announce something in the future that people will hear about, no need to ask for updates on any footage.
Next time you guy make a tournament … Bring Mago and disguise him so he look like Justin Wong … So Justin Wong might actually win vs Daigo
I wanted Justin to win … God damnit!
Not many top japanese come to USA though (Outside of Daigo) … It’s would be sweet to have a USA vs Japan VS Korean tournament happenning (yeah i know i’m dreaming)
Sadly i think USA would get … Hmm…
Also i remember back in third strike lot of tournament happened in France. What’s happenning with those european?
Why are people making excuses for Daigo? If he’s not familiar with the console characters, that’s his fault. And how do you know he hasn’t been playing the console characters to practice? “OMGZ, he didn’t know the match-up”, umm yeah, exactly, then that’s Daigo’s problem. If he’s going to play in a console tourny, he should know the console character match-ups. SFIV on the console has been out for 8 months, c’mon people. Just saying, you don’t know if he “didn’t know the match-up”. And even if he didn’t, that’s HIS fault.
Daigo beasted anyway, as usual. Props to Sanford and all else who managed to beat the beast. Hopefully one day, Daigo will come to a USA tourny and NOT win. Let’s go America, level up!
Good shit to Lex, and Joe in UMK3. Hope to see some footage of the tourny, at the least Tim’s ft10 matches.
Props to the stream peeps, good shit. I’m glad the decision was made to do the stream. It’s a shame UMK3 wasn’t streamed, but whatever, you did what you could.
Seth Killian said that Daigo recently played a 30 game set against Mago, who’s regarded one of the best if not the best Sagats on the planet. Umehara beat him 23-7.
They’re Wylr3mUyCPQ]too playing SoulCalibur IV, I kid you not.
For the first time I was actually rooting for JWong…just because he used a low tier character against Ryu who is used by the best player in the world… Total epic matches…I don’t care if Daigo knows the match-up or not…but c’mon… It’s just Fei Long… he is nothing compared to Ryu who is so dangerous once he has 2 bars and ultra…or if he corners you with 1 bar and an ultra… Fei Long has to work damn hard and takes a lot of risk… pulling off retarded CW commands…and linking the 1 frame combos
So I just wanted to propose a question to see how people feel about what seems to be the standard payout structure for these tournaments. When huge events like this or Evo have hundreds or 1000+ entrants, does it still seem fair to pay out only 3 places? This is barely 1% or less of the field. As a comparison the World Series of Poker pays out to ~10% of the field in every tournament and it has worked for them. The idea is that you have a certain amount of “dead money”, people that enter for fun and have now real chance to win or place very high. If you only pay out top 3 then you are seriously limiting who has the potential to win any money thus creating more dead money and fewer winners. Eventually the dead money will dry up without other incentives. Of course paying out 10% might not be the way to go, it is just an example. Plus there is far more variance in poker so it makes sense to pay more people.
That being said, when you have a large tournAment it might make sense to expand to top 5 or in Evo with 1000+ entrants pay top 8. I know it has always been top 3 or occasionaly top 4, but if the big tournaments started a new system it would set the standard for everyone else.
Ok, sorry for the novel. Coming from a poker background it just always baffles me how the Payout structures are for these things.
