You have no idea. I still don’t think the Jersey/Brooklyn kids are even home yet and they drove to play that shit! I was more pissed for everyone else than myself really. And that fucking Marn, seemingly not giving a shit, acting the victim. The fact that his smug ass even came back today made my blood boil! Luckily, I had eaten enough chicken so the grease kept it from boiling over. I don’t know, honest mistake or he’s honestly never looked at or run a bracket before.There is the off chance he suffers from massive mental retardation. Yeah, I was the skinny dude with the funky hair that hung around Keits’ crew most of the time. I was also surprised that he showed up today as well. I just hope that people don’t come next year because of this.
jbeene- I thought you were RoninChaos at first, I had to ask someone for clarification. I was the scrub with the anny stick that had all the comic book art, all credit should go to BobSmack for the design.
Obviously this Marn cat didn’t do his job but I’m not understanding why this dude is being blamed entirely for this. Someone in charge of the event should have started questioning the flow of the GG tourney when it started 6 hours late. It seemed obvious that the dude couldn’t handle it all by himself or didn’t care enough to get adequate help. The organizers should have seen this and stepped in and taken over.
Alot of things were not running smoothly, doors opening two hours late, 3s starting 4 and a half hours late. Things ran much more smoothly last year but when all is said and done I still had a good time and I know alot of others I spoke and played with did as well. Keits and Ghaleon did a great job on their part.
Well that’s just the thing… First off, he was getting help. A lot, actually. In fact, the problems didn’t occur until the losers’ brackets. Those problems being that about 10 people apparently ceased to exist after losing. The time issue… that’ll be an interesting conversation when it happens, but it’s not going to happen here and not yet, but it’s certainly an issue. When it all comes down to it, there are some games that are deemed “less important” and therefor get less attention. That’s the biggest problem. And you’re absolutely right: there were no checks and balances for what was going on with what.
There’s a lot to be learned from this weekend and I just hope that those things ARE LEARNED by those that need to have learned them. Do I think this will have an effect on the number of people that will come next year? Absolutely. But I want to assure all the participants that this WAS an anomaly. The games starting late forced a lot of people to lots of different places. The people running some of the games were getting angry at their people not being there. There’s no getting around it, but there’s still no excuse. It’s a massive catch 22. If you don’t know what that is, wikipedia it.
Things I recommend for next year include:
More megaphones.
A clock.
A way to either project or allow people to monitor where they are in the brackets of their games AT ALL TIMES. Hell, give me a laptop, MoMo’s source feed and 15 minutes, I’ll do it myself.
Patience. Players and organizers both.
Respect. Marvel is a big fucking deal and people came a long way to see it. People also came a long way for the other games too.
There are a few more things, but I’m tired now and must work in the morning.
