Same reason why I hate Fuerte and Seth I guess.
Training against their bullshit is tedious and you hate every second of it.
So instead of working hard to get better results, you just fucking complain and say they’re cheap characters.

The SF4 (and SFV, I presume) spds are so lenient that they are practically half-circles anyway. I don’t get the point of half-circles, they are functionally identical to quarter-circles. Non-lenient 360s generally make it so you can’t do the move raw, but a half-circle is only a ever so slightly more annoying quarter-circle. I’d prefer that they just trim the fat and only stick to inputs that offer actual limitations or possibilities to a move.

I take it you play games that don’t really have a lot of half circles in them. The difference between the two is a huge deal in plenty of games, from the amount of time it takes to input the move to whether it’s a half circle back or forward and when you want to use the move. For instance, in KoF there are a LOT of offensive based command throws that are half circle back/HCB,F. Why is that? Because you tend to use them while running forward and it’s very natural to do a run into essentially a QCB. In contrast, a lot of grapplers have 1 frame command throws that are GODLIKE for punishing moves because they are HCF, which is a move that starts with a blocking input, so from block you essentially buffer QCF, which is again very natural.

Flip these around and try to do them. Try doing Takuma’s command throw as a reversal. Having to hold back to block then do HCB going all the way to forward is kinda awkward and takes much longer to input. You almost never see Takuma in 13 do an EX command throw as a reversal inbetween blockstrings even though it’s his ONLY invincible special move for this reason. It’s too awkward to bust out when you need it. These kinds of inputs are decided intentionally based on the intended use of the move and can greatly affect when you choose to use it.

I see, I was thinking in the context of sf. However, I think that HCB+F has consequences more similar to a dp motion than a HCB, so you can’t just argue about them interchangeably. Thinking about it, in the context of SF4s input leniency, 360 motions might be more preferable than half circles as 360s have the benefit of being able to be performed in either direction, for the cost of one more directional input in the direction you were already moving.

Making a move a half circle is designing with intention though. Yes, 360 being able to be done in either direction is nice, but a lot of half circles are a specific direction for a reason. You CAN’T buffer a half circle either direction, and that’s a reason enough for it to not be a 360 if that’s what you’re going for.

I agree, I meant it as a response to the idea that having spds as half-circles is somehow easier or better than 360s, as expressed in the eventhubs comments. I’d say that being able to do the move in either direction removes “difficulty” to a larger degree than having one less directional input. Assuming that SFV has as lenient inputs as SF4, that is.

In fightcade matches:

<System> GAME: <darkrammer> ive seen people who doesnt use it
<System> GAME: <darkrammer> anyone who use qs taunt is a scrub
<System> GAME: <darkrammer> it makes him broken
<System> GAME: <melongod> You do realize that his main gameplan is to get 3 taunts in right?
<System> GAME: <darkrammer> no becuz anyone whos a pro doesnt need them becuz they know what they are doing
<System> GAME: <melongod> And how does it make him broken?
<System> GAME: <darkrammer> becuz he gets stronger health than hugho and does more damage than chun li supers
<System> GAME: <melongod> Are you serious dude?
<System> GAME: <darkrammer> yes

This is what 3S is becoming.

His feelings probably just hurt from being taunted lol

On the second one, the funny thing is that winning with Fox is impressive because of how RSI-inducing and otherwise strict the character’s execution is and just how absurdly tough top level Melee competition is. The first one = o_o’

This guy needs to be hit with SA2. Repeatedly.

Stopped reading at this point

I wonder what kinds of scrub quotes we will get once SFV comes out and has been old for 2-3 years competitively

this one is pretty much true tho

This destructoid thread and “article”, lmao.

“As for tier lists I always thought making two CPUs fight each other would be usefjl for some reason”.

smh

One of the sane people in the thread: “If you try hard enough, you can build a house using a steel toed boot instead of a hammer. That doesn’t mean a hammer isn’t a better tool for the job.”

Yes, but using a steel toed boot is a lot more IMPRESSIVE and proves that you really are the top house builder, since a hammer just makes things easy, and knowing you had to work hard with that boot makes it more SATISFYING than copping out with the top tier hammer. /sarcasm

I’d suggest a drinking game based around scrubs talking about “fighting honorably” but I don’t think that’d be a very safe suggestion.
