Can’t hate on dat e-Sports hustle. It’s not like you’ve got to pay to watch it.

You guys know that SBO is PPV stream, and before streams became the norm the only way to get footage of a tournament was to buy the DVDs after it right?
You also know that Sp00ky and a lot of the other streamers quit their jobs just to provide more content to you? If you think these guys are making bank then you’re woefully unaware of how poor the twitch payouts are for anything except subs (own3d pays much better for views and has better servers, but you guys decided that you’d rather have twitch chats emotes than help sp00ky pay the rent…)
Don’t pull the pity card here - if you can’t afford to run a stream, shut it down or find a better paying job.
Streaming is a hobby, not a living.
Perhaps a major stream shutting down is actually what it takes for support to grow.
PS: PPV streams are the norm in Japan. Japs will pay for anything.
People derive entertainment from that never-ending torrent of nonsense? One PogChamp is funny, 287 in the span of 8 seconds isn’t.
Amusing how the screenshot you chose was:
A) Taken from stream 2, which isn’t the main games
B) Taken during VF, and lets be honest - way fewer people watch VF.
C) That screenshot there were only 892 ppl watching at the time.
On Stream 1 there were still tons of people spamming emoticons and acting like always. The amount of people spamming the “HYPE” icon over and over was mind-numbing. Same goes for the trollface.
What there WASN’T was a bunch of racist retards or people copy-pasting people’s names into fanfiction over and over.
Frankly, I’m looking forward to the day where I can pay streamers to disable the chat room completely.
Nothing amusing about it; stop trying to be a smart-ass when things are already obvious. I was watching Stream 2, don’t give a crap about SFIV or Marvel; 900~ players and there were literally less than a handful of people talking at a time, do the math. I was watching the stream most of Friday and Saturday, it was sad. And the sad thing is that there are alot of cool people on the stream chat but they go unnoticed; so don’t act like it’s nothing but trolls.
I also like how everyone assumes that I’m a stream monster (I’m not); or that I don’t have a job (I do); or a bunch of other nonsense that misses the point. Do you know how ignorant and obnoxious it is to call people broke? To say ‘just get a job!’ like it’s the easiest thing in the world? To be completely ignorant of people’s circumstances other than your own and your fellow priviliged peers? Maybe there’s someone in the community who has a job, but works on minimun wage and can’t spare a dime that isn’t for his family. Grow up; just because you live in comfort now you talk shit? Appreciate your privilige and understand that even though you can afford things others can’t. I’m not American yet it seems I’m wiser to the poverty situation than you guys are; life is damn hard, help a brother.
Also, I can’t attend because I am not from the US of A; there’s another factor you guys missed.
The only people playing the pity card here are the people who don’t want to optionally pay for an optional add-in because they feel entitled to the fruits of other people’s labor. Somebody provides you with a free car: you want the spoilers for free too. No discernible logic there, just pure entitlement.
Also, where do all the equipment and resources being used here come from? The magic FG Fairy? The cameras they’re using are top tier. Their setup and streaming and production are top tier (minus the audio leveling on the clip that runs before the player interview inserts, but aside from that: fantastic work).
These things aren’t free. Like the 0wn3d.tv article: most people are gambling every time they try to run or produce or do anything in this community. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.
Everything is a hobby until you find out a way to succeed professionally at it. I don’t know what you do. I’m a computer programmer. I got my job because I got pretty good at it as a hobby and was hired by a huge corporation (nowadays) that started out as some teen kid’s hobby. In most every professional field you can look at what someone’s doing cynically and it’s just a hobby. Calling something a hobby is a pretty worthless tool of discussion.
Use the popout mode. Worked excellently for me last night: SCR looked like a professional TV production as I ran the popout mode fullscreen.
If you noticed anyone in the world claiming that the SCR setup provided the perfect solution, I’d be surprised. Maybe these things take balancing: it seems like this whole community is in an experimental stage trying to find what works.
? That’s great and I wish all people well, but crying because not everything is free isn’t justified regardless of your life circumstances. The point of view you present is entirely egocentric and doesn’t reflect any acknowledgement whatsoever of the sacrifices, investments, and efforts of others.
Grow up.
The whole “problem” here seems predicated on the ugly modern mantra “You Deserve It!” You don’t deserve shit. Instead of feeling chuffed that you’re getting the awesome you’re getting, that these people are breaking their backs this weekend and the past months running up to this to set all this up, you’re toddler-level cranky because you should be Entitled to everything for free. To want merits to have. That doesn’t make sense in any sustainable community. You’re welcome to apply this logic in all other facets of your life and report back, but why waste our time singling out FG streams as the one place where this logic must be applied?
Look guys,
you’re going to have to realize that stream chats have become a toxic cesspool of racist/misogynistic/homophobic rhetoric every event. People spamming long copypastes, stupid long memes, etc are just detrimental to people who try to actually chat. If I ban any of it, 3 more show up with their other 20 free to make Twitch accounts. Its just a tidal wave of BS that idiots who don’t show up to any events will continue to propagate.
So basically you have two options: a minor fee that goes toward the streamers themselves or a 10 minute slowmode. Personally, I’d like a way to have reasonable chats and hype without the need of absurd slowmodes. $3 isn’t going to kill you if you already own a laptop and internet access.
As for the esports complaints: newsflash, if you want professional level streams in full 1080p 60fps well you’re going to have to help cover the costs of that expensive equipment. LevelUp uses a Tricaster to provide you with the best streams possible. Those go for around $6000-$10,000. These guys aren’t getting money from thin air. Someone’s gotta help cover it.
Sub to chat is here to stay, as it should be. It clears the garbage and supports the streamers that give you a high quality broadcast for practically nothing. Stop complaining and start supporting your content providers.
Yeah, stream chat is full of 06/07+ summer newfag shitposters. Shit even ain’t like old /b/. Get fucked
Try actually watching the games.
Stream monsters Just seem like people that come off 4Chan or even Reddit
Normally this would be true. But we’re talking about 3 dollars. If you’re so tight you can’t afford 3 dollars then why the hell are you wasting your time watching a stream about games? Seems like a pretty low priority - you’ve got other stuff to worry about.
And, I might mention that you can still WATCH (the important part!) for free! So even if you’re so tight you can’t afford 3 bucks you can still enjoy a top-level tourney.
^ This!
Seriously, QQ harder if you don’t like being able to chat.
At least you get to WATCH FOR FREE.
Stream chat is nothing major to me imo. Most of the time when hype shit happens, We come and post are thoghts on SRK anyways kanye shrug
I actually run HDMI from my PC to my living room TV, and watch streams there. HD, sound system, no chat.
I should pay the $3 and not chat just to spite OP.
Setting up those equipment for streaming is no joke.
I’ve seen the stream chats before and I can’t get to watch the video properly due to facepalming. Luckily on TwitchTV there’s an option to make it invisible. I’d rather watch the archived version on YouTube.
Stream chat is nothing more than a waste of bandwidth. If people want a healthy discussion just go to the forums.
lol you live in fucking London, England, don’t tell me there isn’t any FG scene close enough.
