SF2 does have a place, but Id take Garou, LB2,SST,Real Bout,3s,KOFXI,T5DR and maybe even WHP over it anyday.
It was but after they made their list about 80% of the replies that they got back said that EX3 did not deserve to be on there. And any EX exposure is fine with me.
How is this list any better or more valid than some random dude on GameFAQs making a list of their top ten fighting games? Because these guys have their own featurette corner on a semi-popular gaming website?

I think you’re definitely right.
There’s no other plausible reason why they would put 3S and MvC2 at the top and yet include Killer Instinct, Smash, and DOA.
Anyway, any kind of list like that is pointless.
What kind of criteria do you go by?
It only says the “Top 10” fighting games, which is extremely ambiguous. Top 10 in what category?
The Top 10 favorites of the site editors?
Top 10 favorites of the fans?
The Top 10 in terms of technical quality?
The Top 10 is terms of historical and cultural value?
In any case, I would take Smash off because it’s not a traditional fighting game; it has no relevance to any other fighter besides rip-off spawns like Dream Mix TV and Jump Superstars.
Also take off KI and DOA4 because neither one of those games are good enough nor historically important enough to be top 10. I mean KI was, what? An incredibly (overrated) popular game for like a YEAR?
I would thus replace Smash, KI, and DOA with:
–CvS2
–KOF 98/XI
–SF2 HF/ST
If the list is about quality, then replace MK2 with SamSho 2 or something. But in terms of historical value MK2 is really close to the top.
I think the list was pretty accurate…sorta.
I just hate it when people don’t give credit to SSBM, IMO, High-level play takes just as much skill if not more than MvC2.
