I’m still hoping they go through with that Victorian Era apin off of the show with HG Wells and the dude you played Yanto in Torchwood.
(Hmmm…I wonder if I should add a list of “sci-fi” shows to the first post. Probably. It will take a bit of research though…)
Yeah, I’m still surprised they randomly got Gareth David-Lloyd for that one episode. A spinoff would be interesting, though they could be saving it until Warehouse 13 is over if they even thought of doing it at all.
I don’t know if it qualifies as Scifi but last week I watched the 2 released seasons of the Almighty Johnsons. It’s a Kiwi show (with a decent amount of tits) about a family who when they turn 21 they become the reincarnations of Norse Gods but of course they’re either drunken slobs, idiots, or stoners. Not bad. ANd again, they do provide tits.
(Okay, so Iazily updated the first post a bit. I’ll do it more “officially” and helpfully later.)
Haha at Lost Girl having Aaron Ashmore on it now. I’m even more lost on that show now since I still jump in only sporadically despite it being quite good, but him being on it is kinda hilarious due to the comparisons I was making to his Warehouse 13 character. I find it especially amusing that despite playing a presumably exclusively heterosexual guy here, he’s already gotten hit on more by men–well, a man, as in Bo’s boyfriend–in one episode than his gay character did in all of Warehouse 13 (that I’m aware of). I guess it’s to be expected, though, given Lost Girl has at least a few openly bisexual characters, including the protagonist.
Especially amusing given that the woman who plays Leena showed up in this episode too…playing an evil character with straight hair. I’m surprised to say it, but I actually think she looks slightly better with the curly hair she has in Warehouse 13, but maybe I’m just used to it more… Still looks good either way though.
Anyway, so not to be focusing on something as shallow as looks, this episode was rather entertaining for other reasons too. I’m still surprised how much Syfy’s able to get away with sexuality-wise as a channel in general when it comes to this series. Even though I’m generally prudish, it’s actually refreshing to see a channel not only be able to do it, but able to do it for more than titillation.
“Imagine Greater” indeed.
I’d say it counts. Sci-Fi is implicitly “Science Fiction and Fantasy” even if “Fantasy” isn’t generally inclusive of “Science Fiction”, at least in the high-tech sense, due its tend to focus on faux medieval environments.
Anyway, considering I’m including Lost Girl in this thread and it don’t has high-tech gadgets, Bo’s new boyfriend aside, I’d say it counts. I’ve never heard of Almighty Johnsons, though, and if it’s from New Zealand, then I’m almost positive it’s never aired on any American network.
(I’m still not really sure I want to count things like Destination Truth or Haunted Highway in the list to be honest, but I’ll still consider them. Regardless, that will have to wait still.)
Kinda wanted to post last night, but I didn’t get done watching until next to midnight since I delayed watched things until I “finished” with a bit of work. I was also rather trying to put off double-posting, but whatever.
So, of last night’s episodes of Warehouse 13 and Alphas, I’d have to say that Alphas was better. Not that Warehouse 13 was bad, per se, just things got wrapped a bit too easily despite everyone’s relative sloppiness; Arthur in particular is still a humorously bad liar for someone who’s a secret agent. I imagine the “ease” of things will inevitably (fatally) bite someone in the ass, though.
Going behind people’s backs
[details=Spoiler]Just seems like a great way to get screwed over unless you’re a “bad guy”. I’m really going to have to watch last season to find out why Kate Mulgrew’s–it’s so weird seeing her as not Captain Janeway–character felt guilty enough to bring back Steve.
Also to find out where they got that metronome thing from in the first place if it can bring back someone so “easily” compared to something like The Phoenix Pinion or whatever MacPherson was using in Season 1 that auto-killed someone else.[/details]
Alphas was also better because despite being in quite a few hokey movies, Thomas C. Howell can actually act well enough unlike another Thomas (coughJanecough) and Nina’s broken-ass got written off the team for at least a while. It was also nice seeing the show deciding to be morally gray, even with Stanton on-screen mercy-killing his last living grandchild and possibly intentionally being behind the Alpha of the week’s development and death.
It was kinda weird to realize that pretty much all of Alphas’s comedy comes from Gary’s autism. I imagine that show would be “too serious” for a lot of people otherwise. Mentally comparing it to Heroes, I realize that basically the same thing happened there, with Hiro & Ando being the only “comedic” characters and, of course, the show as a whole being a lot more crappy than Alphas (currently) is.
(I still say white shadow should post in here.)
Oh, great. I can’t even remember what last week’s Lost Girl was to say anything about it here.
With regards to this week’s/today’s/tonight’s episode, I have to say it looks like things took quite a bit of a turn for the worse. I have to admit I laughed at the “fingering” joke, but Hale’s family shows why the rest of the Fae are probably screwed against whatever this Garuda thing is.
keeps thinking of SFEX
Still a good episode. I have to say that Warehouse 13 and Alphas this Monday were also good. Alphas might have slightly edged out Warehouse 13 again in being “better”, but that’s only because Bill leveled up…by literally blacking out. Haha. I also rather look forward to seeing Alphas do a “Taskmistress” character better than version we got in Heroes that just up and disappeared with everyone else that was black.
Warehouse 13 was still quite entertaining. I didn’t expect Artie and Leena working together to be so amusing or for the main suspect to go out like that. That end twist can’t lead to anything good though.
(Geez, I haven’t posted in here in 10 days? Still more recently than anyone else…)
Anyway, this week’s episode of Warehouse 13 was the best yet. Ton of character development and all fronts and it balanced being amusing with being heartfelt and serious points. It was nice to see another side of Pete’s particular problem with not wanting to be abandoned without their being angst about it this time and then people (read: Myka mostly, but Leena & Artie too I guess) refusing to talk to him about it (on-screen). It was especially refreshing to see it be the guy who wants kid opposed to or at least before the woman.
(That somewhat implies that I expect Pete & Myka to still get together, which I still don’t. Hell, I could only imagine the amount of fans that were bitching over her “cheating” on H. G. Well with that hockey player this episode.)
Alphas’s tonight was rather interesting. A rather thorough “mind screw” even after it was “explained”, partly because the “explanation” wasn’t in full, which was only further by Nina’s busted powers not getting a full answer thrice in a row. Still, nice to have a non-supernatural explanation provided, even if I’m not sure what to make of Gary at the end…
ON LAST WEEK’S EPISODE OF…
Speaking of Gary, I found it kinda amusing how even with her romantic subplot, it seems increasingly clear that Rachel’s somewhat hitting on him. She was clearly checking out his surprisingly hairy chest when was on in that towel.
Too bad that was most amusing thing about last’s week episode. Gods, last week’s episode of Alphas was really depressing otherwise. Maybe it’s why the felt they had the throw the girl-on-girl in there to make up for Nina’s screwed-up backstory and isolation, especially since there would have been other ways to hint that she’s bi. In the same vein though, it was nice to have them not “cop-out” and have it be the fault of her ex-boyfriend or even have her being doing it initially in a lot of instances, though the latter arguably makes it kinda worse…
Warehouse 13 was kinda middling by comparison last week. Nice to at least have Steve’s connection with Claudia not be dragged out all season though, especially when there’s probably way bigger things to worry about with Data’s brotherhood breaking into the warehouse so causally.
Finally, Lost Girl last week was also rather screwed up. I very rarely get “creeped out”, much less by something on TV, but that bathtub scene with Bo bound and gagged had serious rape undertones to me for some reason with the whole “take all of her memory” thing; it’s especially weird since even overt mentions of rape tend not to phase me.
Shrug. [/talking to himself]
Ugh, Warehouse 13 has a finale just as it was getting good. I thought the season was turning out kinda weak, but the past two eps and the twist have made up for the ‘plot holes’ of the Warehouse security.
But I would have liked
[details=Spoiler]
Arty to stay the villain for a couple more eps. With his knowledge and all the artifacts at his disposal, I thought Arty should have been more formidable. It would have been cool seeing the team needing to use artifacts to counter Arty. [/details]
*Continuum *is going to air on American SyFy channel, so hopefully people give it a chance. I enjoyed it a lot, but I hope the second season moves a little faster.
(Oh, hey. I almost forgot about this just because I was talking to myself for the past few months. Also doesn’t help that this week [read: month] has been so crappy and that I might not even get SyFy after Tuesday.)
Yeah, the last couple of episodes of Warehouse 13 ended on total “this episode doesn’t actually have an ending” cliffhangers, especially the second to last one before this **mid-**season finale; I seriously don’t know why the commercials kept oscillating between calling a “season finale” and a “mid-season finale” when it’s obviously the latter given how the episode ended.
I am still surprised that
Spoiler
They killed off Leena though, even if her character has been a rather background character from the beginning and this show has already had multiple resurrections and pseudo-resurrections. For some reason, I feel that she’ll stay dead though, at least if H. G. Wells gets to stick around as at least a semi-regular rather than flitting in and out of their lives.
I kinda agree on the twist before that in the second-to-last-episode and it making the season a lot better than it had initially seemed, though I disagreed about them being so swift about the “final” episode given what a huge threat he was and how he had the ability to freaking stop time. Letting it drag on like that would just made it more difficult to redeem him–if it’s even possible–especially given what a big deal they were making about the “time limit” and what happened just before that. Kinda makes wonder why they didn’t choose to have H. G. pop back up to “deal” with it though like someone else pointed out…
Still makes more sense than the episode of Haven that was just on–I missed last week’s–and the second most recent episode of Alphas, where Rosen apparently didn’t psy-shield his daughter after sending back into deep cover even though he had Nina do that for Cameron.
Shrug.
Are there threads for Fringe and Falling Sky? I know Continuum doesn’t have one, obviously, and I don’t watch either of those shows at present, but I figure that they would fall under “Sci Fi TV”.
